Physics MCAT Question Explanation, not a repeat q!?
Ying and Albert are carrying Faisal on a horizontal stretcher. The stretcher is uniform, is 2.0m long, and weighs 100N. Faisal weighs 800N. Faisal's center of gravity is 75cm from Ying. Ying and Albert are at the ends of the stretcher. The force that Albert is exerting to support the stretcher with Faisal on it is: Answer: 350N
So I thought using torque:
(800N + 100N) x .75 = 675N thus by multiplying it by Albert's distance I get 843N.
How do I incorportate the uniform stretcher into the equation correctly?
P.S. this question has NOT been answered before! I checked many many websites! I also hate repeat questions :)
2 AnswersPhysics7 years agoPhysics MCAT question Explanation (where is my thought wrong?)?
John and Jane are 10 m apart on an icy, frictionless lake. Jane's mass is 40 kg excluding the 1 kg ball she holds. John's mass is 59 kg. Jane throws the ball to John with a horizontal velocity of 10 m/s. How far apart are Jane and John 10 s later?
Answer 14m but HOW??
So I thought maybe conservation of Force?
Force Jane = M (jane) g
400N would have to equal M (john) a (that john would feel from catching the ball)
but give a=~6 m/s^2
So 1 second from flowing the ball to catching they are 10 meters apart then another 9 second...that will be large, around 50's meters.
then I though conservation of momentum (though it doesn't seem to apply)
How are they moving to begin with? why are they moving apart? is it due to the throwing of the ball?
P.S...this question has NOT been answered already! I did a thorough search, I hate repeat questions too!

Two charges are placed on the x axis. One of the charges (q1 = +8.13 μC) is at x1 = +3.43 cm and the other (q2 = -21.9 μC) is at x1 = +9.43 cm. Calculate the net electric field at x = 0 cm.
So the equation I used was
E= k (q2/r2^2 - q1/r1^2)
so (8.99x10^9) ( -21.9e-6/ 0.0943^2 - 8.13e-6/0.0343^2) and get -8.41e7 N/C
which is not correct...I can't seem to find my mistake...

1 AnswerPhysics10 years agoA calculus wold problem help.?
A 36 foot wire is cut into 12 pieces which are welded together to form a rectangular frame whome base is twice as long than it is wide. The frame is then covered with paper to form a box. Find the largest possible volume for the largest possible box.
It is a hw problem and I can not seem to get it.
I found the equation to be 36=4x^2 + 4xy
and V= 2X^2Y
What next?
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoPhysics Capacitor Problem, How many electrons transferred?
A capacitor has a capacitance of 2.38E-8 F. In the charging process, electrons are removed from one plate and placed on the other plate. When the potential difference between the plates is 500 V, how many electrons have been transferred?
Here is my reasoning:
C * V = 2.38E-8 F x 500 V = 1.415E-5 which is the Q value.
Then Q / e-charge= 1.415E-5 / 1.6E-19 C = 8.84E13...
but that is wrong...can anyone catch where I went wrong?
Thanks
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoPhysics Q on Net Electric Fields?
Two charges are placed on the x axis. One of the charges (q1 = +8.24 μC) is at x1 = +2.57 cm and the other (q2 = -20.3 μC) is at x1 = +9.18 cm. Calculate the net electric field at x = 0 cm.
I used this formula: Enet= k l q2 x 10^-6l - l q1 x 10^-6l
------------------- -----------------
(x2)^2 (x1)^2
Enet= (8.99 x 10^9) l (-20.3) x 10^-6l - l (8.24) x 10^-6l
------------------- -----------------
(0.0918)^2 (0.0257)^2
My answer came out to be -90499950.41 N/C
This answer do not fit and the value can not be negative...where am I going wrong?
3 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoWhich state to file for divorce?
So my friend is filing for a divorce, which state does she file in?
She lived in Maryland, before she moved to PA for school, but her drivers license and auto insurance is for Maryland, although she rents in PA. She also goes to school in PA as an out-of-state student.
She got married in New York.
Where does she have to file divorce papers?? Maryland or PA?
3 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoHow do I tell My "Perfect" parents I am married.?
I am 18 and I got married to my high school sweet heart in August of 2009.
We did this all behind my parents back.
To make a long story short, my dad is a psychiatrist and is just plain over protective and intimidating. My real way of escape was to leave for college and for money support...get married.
My little sister, 16, ended up being a stealer and got caught for it, just 2 weeks before I got married. The disappointment in my parents faces was WAY more than I could take, thank goodness I was set to move out very soon!!!
Now I live in Pittsburgh with my husband and My parents are in Maryland. My husbands family is amazing, but I am afraid that my family is going to disown me because I ran off and got married.
My parents happen to find some pictures on facebook from the wedding, which were on my husbands page, and I was not tagged. They are calling, my mom saying she wants me to tell her "something" myself, and my dad was being blunt and saying he found the pictures...
Now I have to go back home for Thanksgiving and I don't really want to leave my new freedom life for more lies and covering up.
Any advice??? I really do not think I am ready to come clean...
P.S. my husband and I am getting along just fine without my parents help.
