  • Laptop is broken, would this be expensive to fix?

My son managed to stick my house key into the USB port on my laptop while I was using it. The laptop immediately shorted out and fails to turn on anymore. Would this be expensive to fix or should I just buy a new on as I can pick up a half decent one for about £300.

  • just discovered partner is cheating what should i do?

my two year old son was playing with partners phone when he had gone out to get food. when i took it off him to make sure he wasn't calling police (again) it was on a message from a someone called sharon it said 'i had a lovely night.you are a lovely person x' was caught off guard as i had no suspicions but checked his sent messages to see if it was innocent and there were no messages to this woman but there were messages to at least 4 other numbers with content such as 'you have a great body' 'love your sexy eyes' ' bite the pillow later' etc

what now? confront him, work it out ignore it?

when he got back the first thing he said was 'have you seen my phone?'

he is the only one working and i start university in september to retrain as a teacher and we have a son who is two next week so i am worried what this will mean for our future.

some outside advice would be good

  • why have my goldfish turned violent?

i have 5 goldfish in a cold water tank and have had them for about 3 months. the last two days they have been chasing each other round the tank and nipping each other. it does not seem to be one fish being picked on and they are equally bullied. is there a reason their behaviour would have changed?

  • which situation would be better?

I have returned to college as a mature student aged 25 and have been accepted at 4 universities for next year. I am a widow with a 16 month old son and am trying to decide what would be the best situation for me. My first choice is Bedford University which is close enough to Cambridge (where i live) to commute and my family can still help with my son but it is not a particularly high ranked university. or Cardiff where i would have to move and i do have friends there with children and the university is a higher ranked university. I have had all my offers now and have t make a decision soon but have no idea which to do. the courses are the same and i don't prefer one town over the other. does anybody have any views of these places?

  • do you think he is lying to me?

my partner has been driving since i met him 3 years ago but now i am starting to wonder if he actually has a valid uk passport. when we first got together his step-dad told me he didn't have a license and my partner went mad at him and said he did have one.

only recently i am worried because we are driving to Holland next month and when i suggested getting a hire car for the week he refused point blank and when i told him the documents he had to take including his full driving license he said 'wouldn't it be easier to fly?' when 30 Min's earlier he was really excited about driving the whole way.

i am upset that maybe he could have lied to me for so long and especially because he drives our son around, where i am an adult and make my own choices about whether i get in his car my son does not have that luxury.

he has insurance, so can he get that without having to send details of his license. can he have everything needed to keep a car legal without an actual license? which obviously makes everything invalid

  • what do you think of my idea for second wedding?

i was widowed at the beginning of last year and have since met my new partner, that proposed a few weeks ago. i have a son and he has a daughter and a son.

my plan is to be different from my first wedding as many of my guests will be the same. i am planning on an autumn wedding in 2012. a while away i know but saving up.

so far...red wedding dress with 2 bridesmaids in white with red sash and 2 page boys red ties. my flowers to be red, orange, yellow with plenty of foliage. registry office wedding with an outside reception. i plan to have a bbq lunch and hire an ice-cream cart for pudding. for entertainment i want old fair ground rides like a carousel and helta sceltar slide with maybe a couple of stalls like coconut shy. guest gifts will be emergency rain macs with my wedding date printed on just in case. im thinking a small picnic buffet in the evening which can be held inside if weather too bad.

any other ideas are welcomed but no white dress, pink or live band evening party as these were all at my first wedding.

  • whats the quickest, cheapest way to get a divorce?

my friends wife ran away last june 2008 and changed her name legally without telling anyone. my friend has been in touch with her by phone and has found out that she has a son with the man she ran off with, born june 2009. my friend has a new partner now and he would like a divorce but due to still paying off wife's debt he has limited funds. it being cheap is more important than being quick.

his wife was my best friend for 14 years and borrowed thousands from me which is the debt he is paying me which is really good of him.

also would it make it quicker or draw it out if he names the man she ran off with in the divorce.

  • do other mothers feel like this?

this is really hard to explain but i had a beautiful baby boy a year ago. i fell pregnant while on bc.

i was adamant that i was never going to have children and even though i love my son i still feel the same, that i don't want children.

i am not saying i don't want my son, because i would be devastated if anything happened to him but my general feeling about having children hasn't changed even though i am a devoted mother to my son.

i just wondered if there are other mothers out there with similar feelings to this?

  • can i apply for custody?

my brother and his partner split when she went off with her latest guy who is a drug dealer. the pub they lived in was raided and 3 people were arrested including my brothers ex. she was facing 7 years so her partner named some people to get them off, they are now under police protection pending the court case when they will be given new identities after. my brother is in the army and stupidly lied about travel expense to get money to pay for solicitors and may get a year inside army prison.

i have a stable home, i am currently at college because of a career change but my partner earns enough to support us through it. i am 25 with a 1 year old boy myself. is there any chance that if i put in an application to the court for custody of my neice with my brothers approval they will even consider it?
