Other things I remember.... 1 of the survivors has a badly broken leg but it is saved by the rotting flesh being eaten by maggots.A farmer who notices that the plane has not gone over his place and he sets out to find them.maybe 3 survivors to start with, and I think it was a mail plane. The bases of the story is a family ( mum,dad, boy & girl) are evicted from there home in Sutherland in the Highland clearances.They travel to Glasgow and work in a mill for a while and then emigrate to Canada, to the Hudson Bay area and get caught up with some frontier battles.

This is all clear to me but I can't remember the name of the story
