Help me with musical keys/scales please?
Like you're explaining it to a child. Slowly help me understand how musical keys and/or scales work?
I'm looking at Chopin's nocturnes and have no idea what the keys all mean. B minor, F major, G minor, etc...
Would A be lighter and softer than G? Is it like an alphabetical sliding scale for the weight of the sound produced?
And then what's the difference between major and minor?
I don't want long answers. I just want something short and snappy.
No detailed explanations, just a simple little sentence.
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoWhat movie was this? Where men in the background were mowing their front lawns in unison?
My memory of it is a little sketchy, but i think this was the gist of it:
I remember seeing this little strange scene in a movie or tv show once, where the main character (I think it is) walks out the front of their house into a well kept suburban street (suburban LA maybe) and in the background there are people mowing their front lawns in unison. It was only a short clip.
It was pretty well synchronised, like a dance or play even.
Just wondering if anyone remembers this too?
5 AnswersMovies1 decade agoAnyone know an online food shop that stocks international foods?
Basically what I'm looking for is an online food shop that will stock some American and Australian foods, that I can then buy and get shipped over here to England.
The things I am interested in are cereals, snacks and chocolates.

& I've already tried sanza.co.uk, pretty much everything's out of stock..

Does anyone know of a good web site that will help me learn the Mandarin alphabet?
I only speak English so it'd need to be in English, and with phonetic translations of the letters.
4 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoSuggest a show to me that's just as good as Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me & Wonderfalls?
've watched every episode of Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls recently, and have really fallen in love with those shows.
So could anyone suggest a show or two that are just like them and that I would like?
I liked the emotion of those series, not the crime, sci-fi or other aspects about them, but the heartfelt drama.
Dont suggest a mainstream, crap drama either: One Tree Hill, the OC, Desperate Housewives etc..

I'm sorry, but you've got to be desperate to pound out excuses when you start blaming bad luck for a season gone awry.

Plain and simple, Arsenal have little depth and the players in their starting 11 are playing like **** at the moment.
And then you smooth over things like the fact that Adebayor did his own hand of god against United on the weekend.
Please.
& you can't say it's down to age, remember Alan Hansen's "you never win anything with kids" comment about United in 1995? After selling Hughes, Ince & Kanchelskis and bringing through the likes of Beckham, Scholes & the Nevilles.
15 AnswersEnglish Football (Soccer)1 decade agoAussie culture - help me with ideas?
I'm doing a research bit on Australia & our culture, and was wondering if any of you guys could help me with a few ideas towards the culture & every day life aspects of Australian life.
I want things that people actually do, not their stereotypes, and nothing too straight forward either, cricket, barbecues, surfing, vegemite, etc.
Because if it's straight forward, I've probably got it already.
& yes, I'm Australian.

Does anyone know a website or websites with a good collection of high quality pictures of a range of Australian places & things?
I'm just looking for generic photos, of Sydney, Melbourne, Tassie, the Whitsundays, Uluru, Kakadu.. etc.
And also a bit of stereotypically Australian shots, (stereotypical to an Australian that is), not Paul Hogan & a barbecue, but things like a small old house on farmland, or something nice from the Snowy Mountains, etc etc
I'm collecting some photos for a research project, btw
4 AnswersOther - Australia1 decade agoUK maternal citizenship laws, in reverse?
As an Australian citizen, I know that I could claim UK citizenship if my parents had UK citizenship, through the maternity laws, but what I want to know if this could work in reverse?
In about 4 years time I will be able to apply for dual citizenship, (Australia & the UK), and I was wondering if there's any way that my mother, (who is Australian born & only holds Australian citizenship) could therefore apply for UK citizenship quicker/easier because of my citizenship?
I wouldn'tve thought she'd be able to, but anyway
2 AnswersImmigration1 decade agoHow do I get my hair to stay swept to the side? Guy's hair Q.?
I'm a guy, 19, with longish blonde fairly straight hair
and I need to get it cut, but I wanted to go for a style like in the picture below of just sweeping my hair to the side (i know it's not the best picture)
But I was wondering if there's anything I should do to get my hair to sit that way, and not just fall down over my face, or completely fall apart in the wind. Whilst not using any hard gel or mousse that make my blonde hair look greasy & dark

Also, if you've got any tips for what I should ask the hairdresser for when I go in to get it cut, that'd be great.
13 AnswersHair1 decade agoWhich episode of the Simpsons does Bart try to draw a mustache on former President Taft?
If it is The Simpsons at all, as I remember it, Bart's drawing mustaches on portraits of people, and comes to a portrait of President Taft, but he obviously already has a huge mustache, so he can't draw a mustache, and gets confused by it
