My name is Amy. I'm only 14, but I absolutely love to read and write. I've written many of my own unique, original stories that I have saved on my computer, and I'm currently working on one new one. That's really all about me that's interesting... hahah, I suppose if you want to know more, you can just ask :).

  • Grade 11 Physics Question!?

"A 0.48kg puck is shot north along the ice with an initial velocity of 3.0m/s. If after traveling 8.0m the puck comes to a rest, what is the frictional force on the puck?"

I'm so lost and I'd really appreciate any help, especially if you can give me an explanation about how it works. Thanks so so much!!

  • Bellybutton piercing question?

I got my bellybutton pierced 11 days ago, and the entire first week it was totally fine, it isn't get at all and it wasn't red or anything. But three or our days ago, I noticed it getting pretty red around the top ball thing, and a bit around the bottom. It's also hurts when I move certain ways that it didn't before.

I'm really afraid it's infected, since I really don't want to have to get it redone. My friend, who also has her navel pierced, said it's just irritated or healing, but I'm really nervous. I wish I had a picture to show, but all I can do is describe it. :( Thanks for any help!

My piercer also told me not to touch the piercing at all for the first month, or to bump it or even clean it, because any movement can irritate it or cause infection, and that showering would take care of it for cleaning for now. So I haven't been touching it a whole lot.

(There isn't any pus or anything, there is some white stuff but I think it's just crusty.)

  • Quirky, memorable surname for a character?

Hi, I absolutely can't think of a last name for one of my characters. He's not a major character, but he is mentioned often.

He's a professor at a school (he's been teaching there for twenty-five years, so he's around 50 years old), he's enthusiastic, lively, disorganized and untidy. His first name is Oliver (but it will never be used, he'll always go by his last name).

I need a memorable last name for him that suits him. Appearance doesn't really matter, but he's small with graying-black hair that is always sticking up everywhere.

    Thank you so much! :)

  • Things like "tbh" on Facebook?

I'm tired of seeing people to "to be honest" on facebook all the time, and I want to do something different. All I can think of right now is "like for a best feature" and "remember when".

Can anyone else think of anything for people to 'like' on facebook where I respond on their wall? Thanks!

  • How do I get my printer "online"?

My HP printer is "offline," and I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't seem to get it back to "online." I searched up how to change it back, and everything said "go to control panel, go to printers and faxes, right click your printer, and then click 'use online.'" I followed all those steps up until clicking "go online." When I right-click my printer icon, it says:

    - Open

    - See what's printing

    - Set as default printer (which it is)

    - Printing preferences

    - Printer properties

    - Start scan

    - Scan profiles

    - Scan properties

    - Create shortcut

    - Troubleshoot

    - Remove device

    - Properties

That's all the options I have to click... I have no idea what to do, and I'm freaking out because I typed up a project that's due soon, so I need to print it. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

  • Which Stephen King novel is the scariest?

I always wondered why people thought Stephen King's writing and his stories are scary, so I read Pet Sematary and it didn't scare me at all. I also watched the movie (not that it matters) and it wasn't scary either... Is it just Pet Sematary that isn't scary? Are his other novels more scary?

In your opinion, which one of his novels is the scariest?

  • What are some fairy tale places/places from books?

Me and my friend are, for fun, creating worlds that would be perfect for us, and we're including places from books, like Hogwarts and Narnia.

    So far I have:

    - Wonderland

    - Hogwarts

    - Terabithia (probably spelled that wrong)

    - Narnia

    - Neverland

    - Panem

    - Camp Half-Blood

    - Oz

    - Atlantis

    - The Inkworld

(I didn't include anything from Lord of the Rings because I don't really like those books/movies).

Does anyone know of any others that I could use?

  • Which name do you like best?

I'm choosing a name for my female main character, and the middle name will be 'Rose' no matter what. The first name has to have a meaning that has something to do with fire, so I'm deciding between these names:

    - Kenna Rose (Kenna: means "born of fire")

    - Adena Rose (pronounced Uh-dee-nuh, means "fire")

Of those two names, which do you prefer? Thanks for your input :). If you have any other name suggestions (with the it having something to do with fire), I appreciate it!

  • Which is the best Facebook album name?

It's just got random pictures of me in it. I'm choosing between:

"Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer" ... doesn't make much sense since summer hasn't started yet...

    "You're unlike any other"

"Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors"

[Yes, I know they're all from Thunder by Boys Like Girls -- I like these lyrics]. Which one do you think is the cutest? I really like the second two, but I can't choose. Thanks! :)

  • B&A: Have you ever...?

Have you ever (when writing) known that the death of one of your characters would benefit the story, but couldn't bear killing him/her off because you became so attached to them? Or killed them off, but were overly upset because of it?

I'm at that point now. I told myself since I first began writing what I'm working on not to get too attached to the characters, but now there's one character that I really love, yet I know his death would benefit the story.

BQ: If you're planning on publishing a novel, who do you think you'll dedicate it to? (If anybody.)

  • How does this poem sound?

Death is but a stutter of the mind,

Stealing the soul and removing the binds,

That link us to the world we insist upon living.

Though what is a world without any giving?

Our souls we must hand away,

Only once death comes knocking at our door.

When we see our light leaving,

We pay the price of living while others are grieving.

Respects are paid, though some are past due,

And when the time comes, death will take you too.

It is an unstoppable force, and will reach you someday,

But until that day comes, your soul remains.

    *****

How does that sound? Is it horribly cliche, repetitive, stupid? It's the first real poem I've written.

    Thanks in advance!

  • When do you capitalize "god"?

When do you capitalize the word "god"?

For example, if someone said, "My god," ... would you capitalize "god"?

    Thanks in advance, hahah.

This is my first attempt at a poem that's not school-related. What is your opinion on it? For a first-time poet, is it decent, or is it horribly cliche? Be honest, I can take it!

I posted this once before but only got one answer, so I'm hoping to get at least one more. Is it bad, decent, cliche? This is the first poem I've written, aside from school assignments (this one isn't for school). So, for a first-time poet, what do you think?

I've never written poetry before (aside from school assignments, but this isn't for school), so I'm guessing it's pretty bad in comparison to others who post here. For a first-time poet, though, how is it? (And sorry, I know it's a tad depressing).

  • How expensive is it to be an international student?

My mom was talking about how much more expensive it would be for me to go to university in the United States, since I would be an "international student" (I'm from Canada).

The reason I ask is because there is only one school in Canada offering an optometry program (Waterloo University), and they only accept 90 applicants per year, so the competition is stiff.

Also, why would going to university or college in another country be more expensive? I'm not talking about flights to the school and back home -- I mean how much the school itself costs.

    Thanks! :).

  • High school electives?

I'm fourteen and will be starting my first year of high school (grade 10) in September. There are so many electives to choose from -- and my mom always tells me to take as much as I can, especially if I don't know what I want to be, so I won't be missing anything when I figure out what I want to be.

Well, I don't know what I want to be, so I'm unsure about what electives can take me places. I know I'm definitely taking welding, automotives, cosmetology, and French as a second language, though I still have space left for more classes.

I'm interested in pychology, but I'm not sure if it's a waste of time or if it could be useful someday. The same goes for philosophy (though these classes aren't available until grade 11).

Other electives I can take are:

    - accounting

    - business

    - animation

    - computer technology

    - building construction or furniture construction

    - electronics

    - fashion design

    - film studies (I thought this looked cool, but again, not sure if it's a waste of time...)

    - law

    - drama

    - art

What is useful? I'm sure everything is useful in one way or another, but I know I'm not going to go into anything artistic, so art is out. I guess what I'm trying to say is: where can each elective take me, if anywhere at all?

Thanks for reading all this! (:

  • Surnames for two characters?

I have two characters I can't think of surnames for. One is called Nazar and the other is called Mortimer. They are both in their mid-30s, and they both guard the front entrance to a very important building.

Nazar is arrogant, generally rude to people, and likes to point the sword he holds at people. He's tough and isn't afraid of much. He secretly longs for the day something exciting will happen, and he'll get to use the years of combat training he received.

Mortimer is more cowardly than Nazar, and he lets Nazar walk all over him. He's afraid of him. He is passionate about his job, though, and if something dangerous ever happens, he'll stand on his own and protect the building/people inside.

Does anyone know any surnames that sound decent with the first names? (I know I didn't put what they look like -- just imagine that yourself). Thank you! :).
