  • Embarassing question but need some advice please!?

I'm 36 and for the past 3 months, I've been noticing blood when I wipe after urinating. It has happened 3 times in the past 3 months. I see it when I use the restroom and I will wipe and I will see a pinkish color on the tissue. The first 2 times, it happened just one time when I used the restroom and that was it. The last time which was Friday, I was taking a bath and on my wash cloth, I saw a brownish red color when I was washing my vaginal area and throughout the day, when I wipe, I saw a brownish color on the tissue. I am due for my menstral this week. Now, I have gone to the gynecologist and she said the bleeding wasn't coming from the vaginal area. My cervix looked fine and I had no infection. She recommend to go to a urologist as well as check my kidneys. I checked my kidneys with a ultrasound and everything was fine. My primary doctor thinks it may be the birth control pills that's making me have break through bleeding. Now, when I use the restroom to have a bowel movement, I see blood on the tissue. It's not a lot but it looks like little specks of blood. I did have a colonoscopy about 2 or 3 years ago and I had a poylp. Also, I was bleeding from the vaginal area in 2006 and they diagnosed it as inflammed cervix. What do you think can be causing these problems? Have anyone else have any similarities? I would appreciate any information or suggestions.

  • Can anyone give me advice on my dog's ears?

My dog seems uncomfortable. I took her to the vet and she told me I was probably cleaning her ears to much. Actually, it's a ointment that I would give my dog. It's for bacterial and yeast infections but it is hydrocortisone free. Anyway, I cleaned her ears out with a ear cleaner recently and it still have not helped my dog. When I look in her ear canal I see dark brown wax and I try to get it out with a q tip and I'm careful not to go into the ear canal. The vet checked her ears for $39 to tell me it was no infection and that I may be putting too much ointment or ear cleaner in her ear. The vet also said that my dog should have some wax because that's normal. When I look in her ears it just doesn't look clean. My dog just is not the same and I think it's because her ears are bothering her and she scratch quite a bit also. She don't have any fleas or anything like that. She also had a hot spot on her leg that looks to be healing but is still red since a week and half ago. Is that normal for a hot spot? What can I do for my dog? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You so much for your answers.

  • Vaginal Bleeding but gynecologist say it's not coming from vaginal area.?

I went to use the rest room and when I wiped, I saw blood on the tissue. Not a lot of blood. I am on birth control pills. It was loestrin 24. Now, I have switched to Ortho tri cyclin. I haven't been on them a month yet. I went to the gynecologist and she said I had blood and protein in my urine. She did a pap smear and looked under the microscope and said I had no infection. I had a pap smear 6 months ago and it was normal. She also did a urine culture and it came back with no infection also. She thought maybe it could have been a bladder infection. She determined that it was not related to my vaginal area and suggested I go to a urologist. I went to my primary doctor and they did a ultrasound of my kidneys and I haven't heard the results from it yet. It has been over 7 days so I'm assuming it's okay but I will call them tomorrow. About a week in a half ago, i did another urine sample and I had no blood and no protein in the urine. However, last night I used the rest room and I see blood again. Has this ever happened to anyone? What could be going on? I thought it was break through bleeding from my birth control pills but the gynecologist said it's not vaginal related. Also, I have had vaginal bleeding before and another gynecologist said it was from my cervix being inflammed. That happened in 2006. Now, I have seen blood on the tissue 3 times in about a month in a half. I assumed it was break through bleeding from my birth control pill but after the 2nd time this happened I said let me check it out. It scares me when I see blood. I would appreciate anyone who can help me out with this. Thanks for your help!

  • My dog had surgery for mast cell tumor in March of 2008. ?

She has been doing good. There hasn't been no recurrence of the mast cell tumor. My question is, I've been taking her to a conventional vet. She was on prednisone and once she was off prednisone I wanted to take her to a holistic vet to make sure I can do everything I can to keep her healthy. Well, I went to see the holistic vet and she recommended that my dog should have grains in her food. She recommended me cook for her as well. The dog food that I was giving my dog is Innova Evo dry and canned food. The holistic vet said to stop giving her that and to give her food with grains. Now, I'm more confused than ever. I'm scared to really give her the grain food. This is one thing that I've researched about cancer in dogs is to stay away from carbohydrates and grains. This holistic vet that I'm going to is suppose to be really good highly recommended. What do you think?

  • My dog had, I believe, blood in her poop?

She is on prednisone for a mast cell tumor. I've noticed that maybe in the last couple of weeks, she was somewhat straining to poop. She started pooping little small balls and then sometimes a normal poop. Today, I noticed dark red smears in her poop. It's not a lot but I can see it. Also, her poop looks dark greenish. The majority of the time, she eats Innova canned food and sometimes the Innova dry kibble. When I fed her chicken and brocolli with her Innova food, her poops were normal. However, I stopped doing that and just started giving her Innova only. She became picky, so some of you suggested that I stop giving her human food so I did. I took her to the vet on Thursday, and this wasn't an issue at that time. However, the doctor did her blood work and urine sample. She didn't do a fecal sample. Everything was normal and fine. So, do you think I should be worried? Maybe the blood is coming from my dog straining. I will call her vet on Tuesday but any answers would be helpful.

  • Concerned about my dog loss of appetite while on prednisone. My dog started taking prednisone on 4/22/2008.?

The dose is 20 mg. She was on 1 1/2 tablets for the first 10 days, then 1 tablet for the next 10 days, and now we are at 1 tablet every other day for 14 days. Then she will do 1/2 tablet every other day until 3 months. My concern is, at first she would eat all of her food. She was not begging for more but she would eat 2 meals a day no problem and would lick the bowl clean. Then, I started adding chicken and brocolli, and spinach to her food and she ate it up. All of a sudden, she didn't want that. I put chicken and spinach in with her kibble just like before and she didn't want to eat it. I started to give her canned food and at first she had no problem eating it right away. Now, she's not eating that. I have to entice her to eat by putting chicken or turkey in her food and she still don't eat much. Prednisone is suppose to stimulate appetites, that's why I'm worried. She goes to the vet on Wed. She had a mast cell tumor. I thank God it hasn't come back. N E suggestions on what to do?

  • Looking for veterinarians or vet techs to answer this one for me please?

My dog will start taking prednisone for a mast cell tumor, stage 2, had surgery to remove tumor but cancerous cells were in the tissues, so didn't completely get all the cancer but did not travel any place else. The surgery was done on March 31st. My dog haven't started taking prednisone yet, can the cancer be spreading now? My main question is, I'm trying desperatly to change her diet, I'm giving her canned evo dog food. I was trying to have her eat Orijen dry food but my goal is to get her to eat the raw diet. In everything she eat, it's nutritional with antioxidants and vitamins, and herbal things as well. I have fish oil that I give her from the vet she takes 1 time a day and I have a liquid multivitamin called Fidonutrients. I want to build her immune system but can I over due it with everything I'm giving her. I even have pet water called Coral Pet Water that suppose to introduce a natural antimicrobial in the pets diet. Colloidal silver which has been proven to destroy bacteria

  • My dog will be on prednisone soon...?

I was wondering how do you deal with your dog being on prednisone when you work 8 hours a day. I know the side effects are increased thirst, increased appetite, and frequent urination. I'm really worried about this. My dog has to be on prednisone for 3 months for a mast cell tumor. Do you know if 3 months is considered short term? I pray she don't have major side effects. I have an appointment with a holistic vet on May 6. That's the earliest they can see us. So, I'm going to do the prednisone. I would appreciate any information from anyone who has experienced this and can give me any pointers on what I can do to help my dog out in anyway. We thank you for your suggestions and comments.

  • Anyone with knowledge about dogs with cancer and type of diet to give?

My dog has mast cell tumor on back left leg. It's a stage 2 that hasn't traveled. The vet did surgery but it was still cancerous cells in the skin that was outside of the tumor area. They recommended radiation which is so expensive for me. Anyway, she is on science diet i/d. I'm looking into a raw diet for her. I'm afraid to do it, she is sick so, I'm afraid if I give her raw meat she will be subseptible to bacteria easily. I want to do what's best for her. I haven't discussed this with my vet yet neither have I given her any raw food. When I discussed K9 immunity to my vet, she felt that it wasn't right for her. However, I hear great reviews about it. I went to a natural pet store today and she said raw food is the best way to go. They have it frozen and its called nature valley. Since my dog had problems with diarrhea before, blood in stool, I'm very worried about switching her to the raw diet. My vet felt like holistic wasn't the best thing when others differ. I'm so confused. Help

  • My dog has mast cell tumor that's cancerous.?

My dog had a tumor removed and sent to a pathologist and it came back as a stage 2 meaning potential for it to spread and most likely to come back in the same spot. The vet recommended radiation, which is extremely expensive $5500-$5600. The next option is a medication called prednisone, which will suppress the cancer. I really need some information on what I should expect. I'm so emotional and it's so hard for me. My dog seems to be doing fine, will things change after she take prednisone? My vet discussed a little of the situation over the phone, I have an appointment with her tomorrow. It will be devasting to have to see my dog go through this and start becoming sick. I'm seriously thinking about counseling because it's so hard. I love my dog very much. I don't want to see her sick or in pain. Thank God she seems to be okay. I'm also looking into holistic treatment for her. Pray for us both? Any information would be helpful as well. Thank You.

  • My dog was diagnosed with mast cell tumor?

My dog is a lab/chow mix. She's 5 years old. I took her to another vet for a second opinion and while in the exam she felt a lump on her left leg. She tested it, and it came back cancerous and she needs surgery to find out if it has spread or not. It's so difficult, because being around her makes me cry. She is so sweet. I want to show her so much love but it hurts to be around her, I just cry. How do I deal with this as well? If anyone can give me any answers on mast cell tumor and the surgery I would appreciate it so much. Also, on how dealing with my emotions toward my dog. I love her. So, just to see her look so innocent and not knowing what's going on devastates me. I can't help it. I just cry. I pray that it's in one area and can be treated successfully. Please help me.

  • What should I give my dog for her ears?

My dog always had problems with her ears. She hates when I put medication or ear cleansing solution in her ears. She had a hematoma in her left ear and I was wondering what preventive measures can I take to make sure this doesn't happen again. Can someone recommend what I can do and how much I should do and how often? I asked my vet this question and he said when she start shaking her head and scratching at her ears bring her in. I feel like he could have told me to purchase something, clean her ears, flush her ears, something else besides just bring her in when she start shaking her head. As a matter of fact, when she started shaking her head I immediately put medication in her ears, looked in her ears and it didn't seem serious, but the next day there was a lump on her ear and it was hematoma. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

  • My dog has loose bowels and I'm concerned because she's been like this for 4 days.?

I took my dog to a doggy daycare/boarding. She was there for 5 days. The 4th day, they gave her a bath. That's the day she started having loose bowels. They gave her 2 different type of treats, one was frosty paws which I think is doggie ice cream, and the other was a smoothie. It's some type of frozen sugar free treat for dogs. When I picked my dog up, she had loose bowels, I thought she would be over it in a day or two but that was not the case. She could not pass a solid bowel movement. On the 4th day, I took her to the vet. He said that it was blood in her stool and that her white blood cells were high. Could it be that the treats the dog daycare gave her messed her up this bad? Do you think that being around other dogs and drinking behind other dogs may have caused her problems as well? Also, would you take your dog back to the doggie daycare. I really liked the place and she enjoyed being around other dogs but it's not worth jeopordizing her health. What do you think?

  • Do you think it's okay to sedate my dog for 2 weeks after hematoma surgery?

My vet wants me to sedate my dog so she will not be able to shake her head. The medication says give her 1 1/2 tablets every 12 hours. I gave her 1 tablet and she's drowsy, which is suppose to happen, but she looks like she's not feeling well and her eyes are red. It bothers me to see her like that. I just wanted to know if anyone have any suggestions or comments about my situation? My dog constantly shakes her head and she always had problems with her ears. I'm hoping that the hematoma will not return. The vet said he don't want her to shake her head. So he suggested sedating her. I asked him, so when will she be able to shake her head again. He said when she get the stitches out. After the stitches are out, then what? I'm sure she will continue to shake her head and scratch at her ears.
