  • NYS Tax Return Under Further Review, May Take Up To 60 Days?

Apparently, a lot of NYS filers received the "your return requires further review" message, but some messages state that it takes between 4-6 weeks, others state that it may take up to 60 days.

"We received your return and it required further review which could take up to 60 days to complete. If you receive correspondence from us, you should respond as soon as possible."

It appears that those who got the 4-6 weeks message are seeing their online status change to "final stages of processing", but those with the 60 days message are not really seeing any movement.

I'm one of the unlucky filers who got the 60 days message. NYS accepted my return on 2/4, and the status has been displaying the 60 days message since then. I spoke with the NYS Department of Taxation and was informed that some returns got pulled for a random review. I was also told that, according to their records, no letter has been sent out to me, and that there's no cause for concern.

Here's the question: has anyone who received this message immediately after having their returns accepted actually had it change to anything other than "60 days"? If yes, how long did it take?

Please, no responses telling me to be patient and that it takes time. I'm only interested in knowing whether anyone's status has actually changed.

  • NYS Tax Return Under Further Review?

I e-filed my 2012 federal and state returns on January 31, 2013. The federal was accepted on February 1, the state (NYS) was accepted on February 4. The federal refund has already been deposited into my account on February 8, but the state has been displaying the following message since the day it was accepted:

"We received your return and it required further review which could take up to 60 days to complete. If you receive correspondence from us, you should respond as soon as possible."

My tax return hasn't changed from the previous few years. In fact, I'm actually getting a smaller refund this year ($420) than last year. From what I've seen elsewhere on the internet, a lot of NYS filers are getting the same message, but I'm a bit concerned with the fact that it's been 8 days since acceptance. Has anyone else from NYS who received this message seen it change to anything else? If yes, how long did it take?

  • Any 2/2/2012 filers still haven't gotten a DD date?

I know that IRS is experiencing delays in processing refunds, but are there any others who have filed on February 2, 2012 and not received a DD date? Here's a quick background story:

Filed: February 2, accepted February 3

Appeared on WMR: February 8 (refund is being processed, should receive it by February 21)

Earlier this week, I checked WMR and received the following message:

"We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Your expected refund date has been changed due to processing delays. You should receive your refund by February 14, 2012. Please wait until that date to contact us again because we cannot take any action until then. Thank you for your patience."

When I check WMR using my wife's SSN, it still displays the original message (refund being processed, you should receive it by February 21).

I'm giving it until Friday, February 24 (the full 21 days since acceptance) until following up by phone. I have no problem with waiting the full 3 weeks, but I am a bit concerned that I still haven't received a DD date. My state return has already been processed and the DD date was posted last Monday. Is anyone else in the same boat?

  • N-400 Citizenship Application Question?

After having been a permanent resident for nearly 18 years, I have recently decided to apply for U.S. citizenship. I have already filled out and submitted my N-400, and I have a quick question. Over 10 years ago, while I was still in high school, I decided to meet up with some friends from a different school. While I was waiting outside (at no time was I inside the building, but that's irrelevant) of their school, I was approached by a police officer, who asked to see my ID. After checking my ID, he issued me a Desk Appearance Ticket for trespassing. Needless to say, arguing was useless. When I appeared in court on the specified date, the ticket was dismissed immediately (if the ticket was upheld, I would have had to pay a small fine). At no point was I detained, arrested, or charged with anything. My question is this: should I have indicated this ticket on my N-400? If yes, should I mention it at my interview and/or bring any relevant documentation?
