I realize this probably seems like a naive question, but I still feel compelled to ask. I understand that the internet persona is that person without social restrictions, but the horrificness of that underneath frankly terrifies me. I'll come on here from time to time to answer questions, and I've seen people telling the depressed to kill themselves, the confused that they're retarded/etc, and the worried that they're fools. Some have entire accounts seemingly just for this. It's just, are people really this horrible underneath? Without the overseer are we really such cruel and hateful things?

My friend has just ended a relationship with a long time girlfriend. Now, I realize this sounds like the most common thing in the world but hear me out. My friend is, well, emotionally starved. He never had a great connection with his parents, he had few close friends growing up, and honestly most of his current friends are assholes. Besides myself and this girl, he doesn't really have anyone. Well, as the main question suggests, she broke up with him and he is ****** up. He took every little bit of love and affection he was never able to give or receive untill a short while ago to her and now he is cut off. I emphasise the point that besides myself he really dosen't have anyone he can connect to on an emotional level, and I can only do so much. I'm turning to this online thing because I have tried everything I can think of and he seems to become a little more twisted every day. Somebody please help, I don't want him to do something he'll regret.
