NRHH: what are your thoughts on the oscar grant trial.?
This prolly affects california and especially bay area residents only but I know we have a lot on here so I wanna here your thoughts. The jury announced they would give a verdict in around 15 minuts so do you feel they handled the case well enough. What do you think the results will be or the aftermath?
3 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoIs pop-rap any less hip hop than any other sub-genre?
after hearing that R.A. and Rude Jude interview it got me kinda thinking. Why don't people have any respect for pop rap. Now don't get me wrong, im not advocating bad music. All im saying is that every genre has bar rappers, but we don't condemn the genre for it. RA said Hammer and rappers like him weren't legit i guess because they weren't great rappers. I mean if a purpose of music is to have fun and dance doesn't pop rap just fit that criteria. Why would it be any less hip hop?

11 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agohas anyone else read the article on guru in XXL?
Its pretty good. It gives a fair shake to guru and everyone else's side of the story. It's a good piece on how Guru has been since the Gangstarr breakup.
1 AnswerRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agois there really such a thing as a "mainstream" sound?
This is from a question hell of us answered yesterday. Would you say there is a mainstream sound for rap, at least in terms of prosuction. I mean if mainstream is only what is popular then wouldn't it be changing too much to have a distict sound. Wouldn't be more like trends in music than a def sound.
Bq: do you think underground has a sound?
Bq2: who are some regs you usually trust when it comes to these questions.
5 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoHow much do you think the skill of picking a good beat factors into a rappers skill?
I know rappers don't usually make the beats themselves but they do pick them and have to rhyme over them. Good beats can make any song better but bad ones can ruin an album. So do you think a rapper knowing what type of beat is hot or will fit their style is a skill to be considered or trivial.
9 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoWhat are some stereotypes about your city/areas rap scene?
i mean stuff like "the south is only beats", "west is only Gangsta", "Houston is all chopped", etc. that people always say but that are untrue.
13 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoWhat does an east coast rapper or sound like?
What I mean is, a lot of people come on here and ask for regional rappers who sound like they are from ny. What does that even mean. I know production can vary from region to region but rapping? I think people just mean lyrical when they say that because there is still the stereotype that east coast rappers are supreme but is there any other reason?
5 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agowho do you think had a better flow: snoop or biggie?
BQ1: what artist(s) do you think had a better flow than those two?
Bq2: what is your favorite artist and group to debut after 2005?
12 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agowould you really consider Wu-tang gangsta rap?
I mean i always called them hardcore but they don't really seem like gangsta rap. I only ask because a question earlier i saw some people call the Wu gangsta. I mean they are mafioso sometimes and they do depict some violent things but they're not really the gangsta rap type imo.

5 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoif an underground rapper is popular, doesn't that make him mainstream.?
I mean doesn't underground mean you are unknown or relativly obscure. If you have an underground rapper who is popular with a mass audience like teck n9ne, IT, etc. Doesn't that mean they aren't underground anymore
6 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoif an artist who is still releasing music only has two albums, can he really have a worst album?

BQ: What is your favorite music video.
4 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agobuy or sell: its obvious why lyrical rap isn't popular?
I mean isn't it pretty easy to see why isn't it. People like to sing along to songs which is much easier with catchy hooks and easily memorizable lyrics, which is in part what made rock so popular in the 50's. And at dances simple predictable beats work better to catch a groove and really dance. So can we please stop having these rants wbout what has happened to hip hop.
12 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agobuy or sell: the next trend in rap music is weed rap?

4 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agohow much do you guys know about hip hop?
I know we all, at least most regs, are pretty knowledgable on rap but how much do you guys know about the rest of the culture. We pretty much ask only rap questions so I just want to know how much you guys also know about the history, breakiing, djing, graff that people don't ask about much on here.
10 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoIm confused, how is Jay Z a sell out?
He has been about money since he came into the game and on this last question i saw people say he sold out when he got popular? How was it selling out when he did what he had always been trying to do. His music may have gotten worse since he was younger but that happens to most people. I need to hear how Jay sold out and did anything different than what he originally planned, which seemed to be to controll the rap game.
