  • Who is wrong here? Situation between me, my boyfriend, and his mother?

My boyfreind lives in an apartment that he shares with his mother and a roommate. They pay equal shares on everything, but his mother acts as if she owns the place. She has called me a ***** on multiple occasions, said that I am a mooch (I'm only there to see my boyfreind, I don't eat unless he gets me something, and I spend as much time as possible in his bedroom rather than the living room), that he shouldn't have to take me home and I should walk the 3 miles home. She doesn't say these things to my face, but she has called me a ***** within hearing range, "Is that ***** still here?"

Because of this, I do not want to be in any of the common areas of the house ever. My boyfreind recently got very upset with me because I don't want to be in the common areas; he thinks that since his mother treats me civily when we are around one another, I shouldn't have a problem being around her. He also got upset with me because "it is obvious that I do not like her, and that causes issues when I am not there." Meaning his mother gives him **** about me when I am not there, and it is my fault because it's apparently so obvious that I don't like her. I have NEVER said anything negative to his mother when I am around her, I simply avoid her and only talk to her when I have to.

My opinion is that if she holds that negative of an opinion of me, and calls me a ***** undeservedly on multiple occasions, I don't want to be around her and shouldn't be expected to be around her.

So my question is, in this situation, is it right to expect me to be around his mother without any complaints? Am I wrong, or is he wrong?

I also live with my parents, and he thinks they hate him, so he refuses to hang out at my house.

  • How to repaint wooden furniture?

I have this idea of getting old dressers and armoirs and entertainment centers, and repainting them with decorative designs (scrollwork) or actual paintings/artwork, and trying to sell them. What kinds of paints should I use? What kind of lacquer should I use to make sure the paint job is durable and won't chip off or look poorly done?

  • People who have lost a lot of weight - tell me your story!!!?

This isn't a question...it's more like a story request. If you've lost a lot of weight, tell me about it!!! How much weight did you lose? How did you do it? What was the hardest part for you? How different do you feel now than before you lost the weight, physically, emotionally, etc?

At my heaviest I was 183 lbs, and am down to 138 now. I don't need diet tips, I'm just wondering what others' experiences were like!

  • How do you solve Ln(x+4) - Ln(x) = -3?

The answer is in the book, but I don't know how they got to that solution.

    Here are my steps:

    Ln(x+4) - Ln(x) = -3

    Ln ( (x+4)/x ) = -3

    e^(-3) = ( (x+4)/x )

What do I do from here?

  • How do you find the solution to log(x) + log(x-4) = log(2x-5)?

The answer is in the book, but it doesn't show the steps to get there and I just cannot figure out how they got that solution. =/

  • Nebraskans!!! What is the rent in your area?

I live in Portland, OR, and it's just not for me. Too green, too hilly, not cold enough in the winter, not hot enough in the summer, no thunderstorms, no wind, too trendy...nothing like where I was born (SW Washington). I've been looking at pictures of Nebraska and most of it is just absolutely gorgeous!!! I looked on photobucket and Flickr and people posted pictures with captions like "Nebraska is sooo boring," or "Nebraska is too flat," and the pictures were just beautiful to me! Reminds me SO much of home...almost makes me homesick to look at them even though I've never lived there!!!

I really want to move there, but I don't know how much money I would need. Can you guys tell me what the rent is like for studio or 1 bedroom apartments? Like an average apartment, nothing too fancy. And where in Nebraska are you?

    Thanks!!!

  • How best to progress at playing piano?

I'm 24 years old and started to teach myself to play piano two years ago. At first I progressed quickly, but lately I can't seem to get any better.

I'm having two problems. The first is that I can't keep track of where my fingers are on the piano if I don't look at them (which means I need to look down at my fingers every 5 seconds or so when playing from sheet music), and the second is that I find it very, very difficult to play to a metronome.

If there are any finger placements you are supposed to use for different keys or in general, I don't know about them. I just put my fingers wherever makes sense, and if finger placements are marked on the sheet music, I'll use those when I see them.

Should I get a piano teacher, or just continue to practice, or is there a book that will help?

  • Will html and css accomplish this?

I want to design a website for a small business, selling custom portrait artwork. I think most of the pages can be done with html and css, but I'd like some opinions on what I need to know in order to do the more difficult pages.

There are two pages I'm not sure how to design (and if it would require something other than html and css, that's fine and I'd love to know about it).

One is the gallery page. On the gallery page, I want about 16 original photos. When the viewer mouses over the photo, I want the photo to switch to the custom artwork, and then back to the original when the mouse is moved again. When the viewer clicks on the photo, I want a smaller window to open up on top of the gallery page and show the selected original photo and the custom artwork side-by-side.

The other is the ordering page. I want for it to be easy for the person to order. I want to have fillable fields for name, E-mail, and shipping address, and then a multi-choice thing where they can select the size and shape of drawing they want, the color of the matting, and frame or no frame, by selecting a little circle beside the desired option. Then at the bottom I want them to be able to upload their photo directly to the website, and have it show up in a certain size at the bottom. Then they can click, "OK" or something along those lines, and it will show a confirmation of what they selected on the previous page, show the photo again, and then have fields for billing information. And then (ideally) when they click "confirm order," it would send the information to my E-mail and send a confirmation to them.

I don't know if this is possible with html and css or if I would need to learn something else. I don't have the money to hire a professional website designer, just to start the website and get the examples drawn, or else I would have it professionally designed.

So, can I do this with HTML and CSS (however advanced), or do I need to learn something else too?

  • Does this sound like hypothyroidism?

I don't have health insurance and have very little money, so other opinions on this would be great before I take myself to the doctor and spend lots of $$$ to have my thyroid checked.

Mainly, I'm always tired/lethargic. I need at least 9.5 hours of sleep every night. I do best with 10-11 hours. It takes me a long time to "wake up," and I'm still tired throughout the day. Maybe a few days every couple months I get insomnia where I will wake up every two hours or so. Constipation is another problem, I've had this problem for as long as I can remember. Recently my memory has gotten very bad. I have problems remembering what I did on a particular day in a week, even if it was just the day before. I have problems remembering what I ate today, even if I didn't eat much. I'm overweight even though I don't eat a whole lot, and I go on 1 hour to 1.5hr walk every other day. My hair and nails both grow slowly, and my nails split when they get to my fingertips. Sometimes (usually after sitting for a while) one of my lower legs will swell up so much that the skin gets tight, and then it will eventually go away. I'm 24 years old; the memory issue and the leg swelling issues have started within the past 8 months.

Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? I'm hoping someone who has hypothyroidism can chime in and let me know if what they experienced is like what I'm experiencing, or a Dr. or someone who knows about this can get advice.

  • Should my dog wear booties when we go on a jog?

I've been taking my 3 year old sheltie/golden retriever on a jog/walk 2 or 3 days a week for the past few weeks. We go about 5.5mi, entirely on well-kept paved streets and paved walking paths, so we don't need to worry about glass or gravel. It's also temperate here so we don't really need to worry about ice or snow either. He's never acted like his feet hurt and his feet don't have any sores. He's a medium-large dog, about 70 pounds.

I plan on upping the frequency to every other day, and as my fitness level goes up there will be more jogging and running and less walking. I'm wondering if I should have him wear booties to prevent him from getting sores on his feet as the intensity goes up. What do you think? Will he be OK without booties or no?

  • Getting accepted into the navy nuclear program with a GED and 45 college credits?

I have a GED and 45 100+ level college credits (quarter, not semester) from a community college. I took the practice test at the office and got a 97 out of 99 possible. I also took one of the ASVAB full-length practice tests on military.com and got 100% on reading comprehension, 100% on math knowledge, 96.7% on arithmetic knowledge and 85% on word knowledge (english is my strong point, I should do much better on the ASVAB after the practice test.) I'm also studying up on working with radicals and quadratic equations before taking the test. I expect to score very high when I do take the ASVAB.

My recruiter said that because I have a GED instead of an actual highschool diploma, I would not be eligible for the nuclear program, but I thought having 15+ college credits puts you in the same bracket as highschool grads. So I am confused. Can anyone explain this for me?

  • Mental health issue and enlisting in the military?

I'm 24 now, when I was younger (from about 16-19) I used to cut my arms. There are scars (although they are only noticeable if you really look), and I admitted myself to a hospital once for stitches. I was released the same day, saw a psychiatrist once, and haven't done any self harm since. I've never been diagnosed with depression or any other mental health issues, just the one hospital admittance for stitches and the one visit to the psychiatrist.

Will this disqualify me from being able to enlist?

  • Is Basic Allowance for Housing/BAH taken out of your base pay?

I'm thinking of joining the military. I thought that if you stayed on base, you don't have to pay for housing or food, but recently saw a Yahoo answer that said if you choose to live on base, the BAH will be taken out of your paycheck for housing tax free. Which means the paycheck for the month would end up only being like $400 since the base pay would be $1556 or so, minus $890 BAH, minus taxes from what's left over.

    Is this right?

  • So you're lost way up in the woods...?

in the winter, and there's two feet of powder on the ground and you know that if you try to hike your way out, there's only a tiny chance that you will find your way out. So you decide that the best way to get out is to try to make it easy for the searchers to find you. What would you do to help them find you? Would you make a symbol in the open with snow, try to burn a tree, drag logs through the snow to write an SOS? What would you do?

  • Do you think it's a coincidence that gas prices have dropped so much just before the election?

Gas here was $4.05/gallon 6 months ago. Now it's at $2.50. The closer it gets to the election, the more the price of gas goes down. Coincidence?

To me this just proves someone in government has very strong control over gas prices.

I also think that as soon as the election is over, prices are going to start going up again and before you know it, once again we will be at $4 a gallon despite the fact we are in a recession.

  • Having kids while going to college?

I'd like some advice on my situation. I am 24 years old and am going to start college next year. I will be 25 then. I'm going for a chemistry degree first, and then hope to get accepted to med school and be a pathologist (a doctor who specializes in various kinds of diseases). This will be 8 years of school, during which I will also need to work part-time, about 20 hours a week.

The problem is, is that I want to have kids. I'm from a large family, and like being from a large family, so I want to have at least 2 kids. Preferably I would have 3 or 4, but as things are, I don't think there's any way that will happen. I'd rather not wait until I finish school until I have kids because their grandparents will be 59, and I want my kids to know their grandparents. It's also more dangerous to bear children after you hit 30, and the instances of certain disorders really start to rise after you hit 30.

I should have gone to college at 18 and I wouldn't have this problem, but I didn't, and now I need to figure out the best way to both go to school and do what I want to do, and have children.

Can someone give me advice or input on this? I'd really appreciate any input.

  • If you could ask any question and have it answered with the absolute truth, what question would you ask?

Let's say there is a talking magic ball that will answer any question you have, and will answer it truthfully and completely. You can ask it ANY question you can think of, but you are only able to ask it one question. What would you ask?

    I would ask:

Is there any higher power that created and/or has an interest in us all, or are we simply here because of chance?
