I love to help people, so try to answer questions as completely as possible when it is a topic I know about. Love to cook American. I'm middle-of-the-road politically, tending slightly liberal.

  • Taxes and child support?

I know current child support is not taxable. My husband is finally receiving payments on child support in arrears for his adult son (22). Is this still not taxed even though this is support dating from when he was 1? How about the interest estimates? (court ordered child support plus accrued interest).

  • Is a bride automatically allowed to emigrate to UK?

This question is for a friend. She is currently dating a guy from the UK who will eventually return to UK when his education is complete. She's not sure whether to continue this relationship.

She has health problems and knows that places like Australia would not accept her (due to the health plans). Does the same issue apply to the UK?

  • Ipod nano friendly stereo - suggestions?

I discovered that my Ipod Nano 16 gig has a different array of pins than prior generations. It won't work in the stereo I had planned to buy (which has an Ipod slot). I wanted a stereo that wouldn't drain my Ipod. How can I tell when I'm out shopping, if the stereo I'm looking at can handle the latest generation?

  • 28 Days Later - was this a sequel to another movie?

Just wondering if 28 Days Later was a sequel to another movie. I thought I saw about 15 minutes of another movie that was associated with this one.

  • Smaller dinner plates?

I am looking for dinner plates that are smaller than current styles. I was watching a show that proved that larger dinner plates encourage people to eat a lot more and I need all the help I can get! Suggestions? When I look up dinner plate 9 inches and i only found a few gosh-ugly ones. I want colorful, not ugly!

  • Places to compare small policies?

Most of the places for life insurance (like SelectQuote.com) I've looked at that compare rates start with $100,000 policies for term life. I need a policy of only about $25,000 as I have nobody to support and my hubby just wants to be sure there's enough to pay any final bills and funeral costs. I don't want to be forking out for coverage I don't need. Any suggested places?

  • How to make a cheese pasta sauce that won't break the bank!?

I would like to make a cheese pasta sauce to pour over linguine for lunch. I do not like Parmesan and I can't afford anything more than about $8.00/pound. Suggestions? I love the texture of Alfredo sauce, but can't stand the parmesan. I am happy to use a lower fat cheese to keep the calories down, but I really need good flavor. We're running out of ideas on what to feed my Dad whose taste buds have turned nasty since his heart attack. He isn't eating enough meat and we need to get protein into him!

  • Reception at home. Tips?

Total people is 35 including us. Reception at our new-to-us home which is 15 minutes from the little chapel. My aunt, sister and teenaged step-kids plan to handle heating up and setting out the food for this appetizer reception.

I've had a large number of guests in previous homes before for Thanksgiving, but never more than 17. Any special things I should think of that might be missed?

  • How to decide how big eyes should be on toys? Where to buy different shapes?

I am making various toys out of leftover yarns. All toys intended for children have embroidered eyes. I am also making toys that would be for older kids or decor only and I want differently shaped googly eyes and/or unique eyes for such items as dragon, cats, lions, geckos, etc. Since I have to buy them from online shops, how do you decide what size mm to get? I bought a 6 mm googly eye, for instance, and it was way too small. I can't afford to get every size and need those bead eyes for my amuriguri animals as well (6 inches or smaller).

  • What would 'informal dress' mean to you if you saw it on an invitation?

I don't want people showing up in torn jeans and beat up shirt, but I don't want them to feel compelled to buy a suit either.

  • Lose weight, get worse periods?

When I was younger and thinner, I had periods that basically knocked me down for days, the cramps were so bad. As time went on, I gained weight. Problem went away. Whenever I lost weight and started approaching normal weight, these terrible cramps would return. I am now in my later 30s and am once again, trying to get to normal weight. I'm not even close and these stupid cramps are back again. What's the deal? I know fat can alter hormones, but I had normal periods, just not the tremendous problem with painful cramps. Any suggestions other than not lose weight?

  • How do you handle uncomfortable questions during a wedding reception?

I'm getting married in December and buying a house from a relative in November. Since my reception is being held at my new home, it occurred to me that I need to come up with a reply when asked how it was I got this home.

I'm buying the home from my last surviving great-uncle (in his late 90s) who has outlived 2 wives and his 3 children. His grandchildren never call, never visit and frankly, probably wouldn't know he was even alive if he didn't send Christmas cards. He and his current wife (she's just over 80) are moving into an assisted living apartment and I'm getting the house for well below market value as he has no desire to leave anything to his grandchildren.

At least 2 attendees are in contact with these grandchildren and when asked about the house, I want to completely avoid anything getting back to these folks so that they don't make the lives of this elderly couple miserable. I just need ideas on what to say to immediately end any discussion on the matter without being rude about it.

  • Photography contract? Examples?

I'm hiring two photography students from the community college to take photos at my wedding and reception in December. Does anybody have links to example contracts or things they wished they could have gone over in advance? The wedding will be in a rural area, so I just want to cover this stuff. We will own the negatives, although we also will sign releases for them to use any of our photos in their portfolios.

  • Prepaid Credit Cards. Do they work and tips?

I want answers from people who have actual experience with this.

I've seen Walgreens advertise prepaid Visa cards. You pay so much on the Visa and then use it for online purchases. Do they actually work at many sites? What's the downside? Fees? (clearly, they don't do this for free). My brother had his card number stolen last winter and now is neurotic about using it online (there is no guessing how the card number was stolen - probably insider job). I refuse to use my own credit card for his purchases. Just would like info on this so I can give it to him. Seems to me like it acts like a gift card that can be spent anywhere, but the caveat with gift cards from many places is that they devalue in a short period of time even if you haven't spent anything.

  • Silicone pans - how to avoid soggy surface?

I was given several silicone pans as gifts, one having cute ice cream cone cup shapes. When I made a pound cake in the rectangular silicone pan, the surfaces that touch the silicone were a little gummy - too much moisture. How do I avoid this?

  • Things other than a bouquet or Bible?

I have a really short walk. The flower thing doesn't really go with my dress (tudor style) and I'd like some suggestions on other things to carry particularly for the photos. My hands are ugly due to scars and arthritis. I am Pagan, so a Bible is out. The dress pictured below (the one in the front) is relatively close to what I am making (different neckline) with the same colors. Any suggestions. We are getting married a few days after Christmas.

  • Do you ever hear a song and immediately think of what you were doing the first time you heard it?

I was listening to "Video killed the Radio Star" and suddenly could remember all these things that happened that day. It's kindof a weird, catchy sortof song.

  • Where to buy stainless steel flatware cheap?

I am looking for inexpensive flatware. I only need knife, spoon and fork as these are intended for larger family gatherings. I have relatives who just can't handle disposable flatware. I need to have at least 24 settings. Anybody know where I might find this for less than $60? I don't need anything fancy. Just a sleek design preferably wider on the bottom so it doesn't go through the grates of the tableware caddy in the dishwasher.

  • How long average reception without dancing?

How long would you ordinarily have a reception? My choices are at home with an appetizer reception or in a restaurant with a sit-down dinner. Most weddings I attend seem to go on endlessly (they have dancing) and I leave before it's over. There won't be any dancing at this one. I don't want it too long, but don't want guests to feel like they are being shooed out. The only alcohol I'm providing is a glass of wine to toast although the restaurant (if we choose that venue) has a seperate bar for guests to get drinks.

  • Anybody get married at Mall of America?

I just have to ask this. I had no idea that they had a wedding chapel at the Mall of America. I live about an hour from there, but never saw it. Did anybody ever attend a wedding here or get married here? Thanks.
