Which do you prefer: third person limited or first person point of view?
I'm curious. When you pick up a book and start reading it, do you prefer it to be in third person or first person point of view, and why?
16 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoSo you go to college and you see someone dressed up for Halloween?
What do you think? Think they're a freak, think nothing of it, or do you admire them for being braver than yourself? Are you going to dress up all day, no matter your age, or are you going to save it for the night? Or are you just not going to dress up at all?
4 AnswersHalloween1 decade agoWhat is the memorable commercial you have ever seen/heard?
So I was watching television, and this commercial came up that just made me stare at the screen in blank disbelief with my mouth wide open. It was...very disturbing how badly done it was. And I won't even start into how this other commercial was so hilarious I laughed at it all day!
So what's the most memorable commercial(s) you've ever seen or heard on the television or the radio?
6 AnswersOther - Television1 decade agoSwitching between first and third person point of view?
What is your opinion on a novel switching between first and third person point of view? I know that the Pendragon Adventure series by DJ McHale does this, but what do you think? For example, the story I have in mind has the primary main character telling her part of the story in first person point of view, then two of the secondary main characters, the villain so to speak who is from a group called the Syndicate and a friend of hers who is something called a Hunter, has their parts of the story in third person point of view. I did this because these characters each represent an opposing force that is after her.
The switching would be separated by chapters or page breaks, and the start of each section would make it clear who was speaking. My reason for this is I tried going with just the main character's point of view, but there was a lot of information and plot that was being left out. I tried going entirely third person point of view and then jumping between the three characters, but that didn't feel right either.
So what's your opinion on it? Should I just find a way to make either first or third person POV work, or would something that switched POV like this be interesting? I've read in a lot of places that its best and preferable to stick with just one, but there are books out there that use both. There's a reason that applies to the plot for why it does this, like in the Pendragon series, and I'm thinking if I go this route that I'd put an Epilogue with the reason why if this way seems like it's a good idea. Thanks in advance.
6 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoHow do I stop myself from eating so much?
Okay, so I love eating. I'm a moderately active person, like I go hiking a lot and my job requires a ton of walking and lifting, but the fact that I always like to eat, especially when I read (I read a ton) or when I'm bored, has made me gain a few unwanted pounds. I want to stop myself from eating too much, but I find that I just keep going even when I'm not entirely hungry! I just love the taste of food.
So how can I go about stopping myself from eating so much? Most people tell me it's a mind over matter thing, but I'm having a hard time stopping. I mean, it's like becoming a hobby or something. Any ideas?

People often refer to the "magic" of a good book, a good movie, or a good art piece. So what is it in your opinion?
1 AnswerOther - Arts & Humanities1 decade agoWhy do people lie, and how to stop lying?
I have a friend who has a very major problem with lying. She wants to start telling the truth more, but every time something comes up, whether telling the truth would make her look bad or telling a lie would make her look better, a lie pops right out before she can stop herself and think it over. It's a bad habit that she says she's had since she was a little kid, and she's never been able to break it. She wants to break the habit, because feels really bad about lying all the time, and even worse when she has trouble admitting that she lied to the people she lied too--so she never really does admit.
Anyone have any suggestions to help her stop lying? I've suggested a few things already, but I wanted to hear what other people had to say about it. Most of her lies are just little things, like the other day her roommate asked her if she had borrowed a book from their apartment's book shelf, and she automatically said her friend had, even though she had taken it. I'm not sure why she lied about that, but like I said, it gets out before she can think about it.
And also, besides how to stop lying, why do you think people lie other than the obvious reasons? Is it something learned early, a destructive habit? Thanks in advance.

...and you had to choose what it was, then what would it be and why? Would you choose it because it might change the world in some way, for the better or the worse? Maybe with the hope of impacting someone's life? Or would you choose it because it was your favorite author?
