Engineering Economy .. Interest Problem?
Five years from now, $1.2M will be needed to replace a machine. To accumulate this amount, a sinking fund of four yearly deposits is established. If the first deposit is due next year and the succeeding deposits increased by $100 000.00 per year, determine the amount of the first deposit. Interest is 8 % effective.
I already had an attempt on this. I tried plotting it through a diagram. But I can't seem to get the correct answer. I used 8 % as interest because I assumed that it is the interest rate per period, which is annually. I used the letter P or principal worth for the first deposit. Am I correct? I had already made at least three attempts but I still can't get the final answer. The final answer by the way is $106 182.70. Please help?
1 AnswerEngineering9 years agoSurveying question: Temperature Correction?
How do I answer this question?
A 1-acre lot (43,560 ft^2) i to be staked out on level ground with the dimensions 204.00 ft by 213.53 ft. The standardized length of the tape at 68 degrees Fahrenheit is 100.06 ft. If the tape temperature is 18 degrees Fahrenheit, what field dimensions should the survey party use to lay out this lot?
(The answer is 203.94 ft x 213.47 ft)
I had an attempt to solve it, but it seems that I am encountering a sign problem whether I will add or subtract the correction to the dimensions. Normally at 68 degrees Fahrenheit, when you go down below it, the tape will shorten. And in laying out distances, you are supposed to add the correction to comply with the actual distance. But the answer given is lacking the correction because it's value is below the distance to be laid out. The answer should be above standard, am I right? Please help and explain. Thank You :-)
1 AnswerEngineering9 years agoRelated Rate Calculus?
A ladder 20 ft long is leaning against an embankment inclined 60 degrees to the horizontal. If the bottom of the ladder is being moved horizontally toward the embankment at 1 ft/sec, how fast is the top of the ladder moving when the bottom is 4 ft from the embankment?
Answer in the book is (1/194)[3(sqrt97) + 97] ft/sec or approximately 0.65 ft/sec. The answer I get is 4.4 ft/sec. I know related rates in calculus but I find a hard time in dealing with problems with no illustration. My problem is actually dealing with the picture because if I don't understand the problem, then I won't get the right answer. Please help me, only with this problem. I will pay back by helping other people :) Thanks for the solutions in advance.
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoHarvest moon friends of mineral town - shop glitch on Winter?
I was forced to take a new game because of this. The PROBLEM is that I can't enter any store at Winter even at the right opening hours. It wasn't a problem until, I am running out of food supply for my chickens and cows. They will die if I can't buy some feed and fodder for them. What should I do?
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games9 years agoTroubleshooting: About my laptop USB connection?
I'm having trouble with my USB detection turning on and off REPEATEDLY. It happens with my mouse every time. I thought in the first place that my mouse was the problem. So when that mouse comes to a point that it is broken, I replaced it with a new one. Still, the same problem goes for that new mouse. So I am really irritated with that USB detection right now. I haven't tried that for keyboards or whatsoever. But the point is, my mouse would stop at one part, and then at another, as if my computer is hanging. And I hear that annoying sound of USB turning ON and OFF. What do I need to do??

1 AnswerMathematics10 years agoDifferential Calculus: I am looking for the best explanation of Implicit Differentiation?
I need a better understanding of implicit differentiation. I already know how to do this.
What I know is differentiate both sides then when getting the derivative of variables with y, add y' to it during the process, then solve for y' through algebraic manipulation. But I need a better explanation for it such as:
1. What is its purpose?
2. Is it possible to use algebraic manipulation in the final answer?
3. How to deal with higher order derivatives of these?
Please help.

2 AnswersMathematics10 years agoWhat is the derivative of e^x+e^y=e^(x+y)?
The answer given was -e^y/e^x
But my answer is quite longer than this. How do you get to simplify the function up to this short?? I used implicit but I can't get to this simple answer. Need help and solutions and techniques, thanks.
3 AnswersMathematics10 years agoDifferential Calculus: Please help me in getting the (exponential) derivative of?
y = [(e^(2x)+1)/(e^(-2x)-1)]^(-2)
The answer given was 2(e^2x-2)/(e^2x)(e^2x+1). Is this true? If not, please explain and give a solution to your answer. If it is right, please explain to me clearly, because my answer has been overflowing, and in the end, it doesn't arrive at this answer. Please help, Thank You.

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoThings to do while waiting for courtship age, I am from the Philippines?
Now I have these one crush of mine. But she never lets me court her. I asked first at the age of 15 (my age). She is smart and determined to finish studies. So maybe I feel that I will ruin her studies if I try to interfere. She was one year older than me so she was 16 at that time.
When she went to college, I missed her. So I reacted barbaric and told her that I will court her soon. When she replied back, she disliked me like breaking up. So I turned sad mocking at the corner of my room. I did not think at that time that was she was concerned for my studies too. I felt for her both pride and anger at the same time.
But after two years, just when she turned 18, I went in her party "turning 18" and I found her smiling at me again like nothing happened. So it was my chance. But taking into account that I could never court her until we both finish studies, I decided to forget her first and went for my studies first. Then when valentine's day came several months after that party, I gave her a gift by asking my best friend to pass my gift because my best friend is closer to her house than mine, and because I was in school that time. She replied on my cellphone and thanked me for the gift, although she just needed my greet as a sign of remembering her. She is not materialistic unlike me. Then I tried to talk to her that time in the cellphone. But she ended first by not replying anymore. So I let it go.
The question is, what things can I do while waiting for the time of courtship? Give me some advices and tell me your reactions to my story. Thank You.
Note:
-That valentine's day was this year
-The party turning 18 was the "debut"
-She was able to study in a very good university unlike mine, so I became jealous
-Finishing college requires an average of five years here in the Philippines
-When she has the chance to finish studies first, she transferred to another campus of the same school, but repeated her studies, so we are in both academic years, both first year
-I'm looking forward to my belief that my destiny is for her, and no one else
-I took civil engineering while she wanted to be a doctor
2 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoSolid mensuration right cone problem, what is the solution?
4. Two vertical conical tanks (both inverted) have their vertices connected by a short horizontal pipe. One tank, initially full of water, has an altitude of 6 ft. and a diameter of base 7 ft. The other tank, initially empty, has an altitude of 9 ft., and a diameter of base 8 ft. If the water is allowed to flow through the connecting pipe, find the level to which the water will ultimately rise in the empty tank (Neglect the water in the pipe.)
5. A circular piece of filter paper R inches in radius is folded twice: first on a diameter and then on the radius perpendicular to the crease. It is then opened up so as to form a right circular cone. Find in terms of R the volume of liquid it will hold.
In number 4, I did not understand how the question works, whether the volume of the water from the smaller will all go to the bigger conical tank. Please explain what quantity is unknown in the question. Answer = 5.1510 ft
While in number 5, I did not understand how the filter paper will be opened to form a right circular cone. Just explain to me clearly how to do it. Answer (pi * sqrt of 3 * R^3)/ 24
I need the solutions to these questions. I have already solved the previous and the succeeding numbers. I just put here the difficult questions for me because my imagination is not creative enough to picture these two numbers. So please help me so that I can understand.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
