  • Should I buy or rent a property?

I'm a single 27 year old male living in a fairly rural part of the UK with my parents after returning from University. I have a car and a job that pays roughly £2000 a month, half of which I'm saving. I would like to move closer to the city.

If I were to live in an apartment I would rent, but I'm also looking at houses and properties a bit further afield which would are available with freehold. I currently have a deposit of around £6000 and building.

As it stands, I get the feeling that I'm quite early in my career and being on my own for now would make renting sensible. I hate the thought of my money not being invested though.

I rented a room in an HMO as a student which was a mixed bag, landlord accused me of having a cat and then a separate incident where the management company refused to accept responsibility for a leaking pipe under the floor.

I am a bit fearful of buying and not being able to afford repairs. I'm not very impressed by the quality of construction of some new build properties.

So I'm finding it all a bit overwhelming and hoping you guys can shed some light on the realities of each side of the coin. Should I buy or rent?

    Kind regards

  • Is my car stereo dying?

The original stereo in my car is now 24 years old and has provided many hours of good service.

In the last few weeks, my speakers have one by one begun to stop working or sound distorted. At first I was thinking maybe it was a coincidence that the drivers had both failed but now one is crackling after I switch the car and radio off.

This problem is what s making me think the head unit may be faulty. Could anyone confirm this? If I replace with another OEM unit would I likely have four working speakers again?

Ps, this all began not long after I damaged a rear speaker while removing the parcel shelf. Could a short or similar in one speaker be causing interference in the head unit?

    Many thanks

  • How do I lock android home button etc to portrait mode without locking the whole screen?

When you rotated older android phones the buttons were fixed at one side of the screen.

This meant that if you wanted those buttons to fall to you left or right hand you could rotate the phone clockwise or anti-clockwise into landscape.

Now whichever way you rotate the device the buttons move to the right hand side.

As a left handed person, I can no longer use an android phone in landscape mode.

How can I lock these buttons at the portrait bottom edge of the screen?

The forced left handed option in developer settings only seems to swap text alignment to the right and google doesn t seem to have any answers.

    Thanks,

    RJ

    Don't feel pretty?

I typed this out for a similar question but they deleted before I submitted.

People will happily abuse your low self esteem to make themselves feel better in their shallow lives. The reality is that few people are really better looking than you but they think as if they are and act accordingly.

People are odd and have evolved to instinctively believe what people around them believe. As such they will probably believe that "she", being confident, is more attractive than you if your less confident self.

The thing is though, That every time someone puts you down to feel better, They ultimately put another little black mark on themselves. As they grow older, they'll run out of friends to be mean to and will realise how ugly they are.

The best way to treat people who are mean sometimes is to be nice to them but not be pushed around by them. Either it'll confuse and piss them off or they'll realise you're actually a person who is worth more than they thought.

  • Please help me ID this portrait artist?

The paintings of theirs that I'm familiar with are distinctive and of traditionally dressed females at a window or similar opening surrounded by a circular trellis like surround with intricate patterning.

I'd say the artist was early 1900's or earlier.

I've found a modern piece of fan art that looks inspired by it http://www.deviantart.com/art/Esmeralda-s-Dance-45...

A name or example of their work would be a great help for my design project.

    Thanks for looking :)

  • Micra K11 headlight issues diagnosis?

So the passenger side main bulb went out a few days ago due to a corroded/misshapen connection in the fuse box (earth side). we put some tin foil around one side as a temporary fix which is still holding out.

Now the drivers side fuse has completely melted itself and some of the box around it (live side) we've extracted the worst of the fuse but the connector on the box looks pretty warped

The headlights also now have a mind of their own when I turn the car off. Sidelights will come on and maybe flicker a bit then the passenger side dipped beam will come on instead. Also, there is a strange buzzing noise now coming from up around the steering column when this occurs and again sometimes when I first turn my side lights on while driving.

I don't know if this is all just because I've not got a fuse for the drivers side. I've had a look online for similar issues and it seems there might be a bad earth/connection outside of the fuse box. does anyone have any advice on where I should start looking or to help solve this?
