  • Desperate for a deer?!?

Been deer hunting this fire arms season with only one weak left, saw two spikes so far and that's it. During archery i was seeing deer like crazy but never had a chance to get a shot at them. Im now on vacation for this last weak of the season (thank god) I hunt about 300 acres of state park land, and ive always seen deer come off the posted land, but so has everyone else in this county! It seems like everyone and there brother was out there just the other day. I've seen doe come off the posted stuff at the top of the ridge and then they disappear when they hit the park property. Tomorrow its supposed to be a high of 23 deg. that's the coldest its been during the day so far, and there is also 18-20 MPH wind blowing to the west with scattered snow all day long. Any tips, advise, suggestions...anything. I know deer aren't stupid but i didn't think they were this damn smart to keep evading me like this. Im not a trophy hunter just want some meat for the freezer so any doe or legal pointed buck is fair game for me.

  • I want to get my first baitcaster!?!?

I want to start fishing bait casters, but i have never used one before and they look complicated and confusing. This is the rod/reel combo i have been looking at for starting out > http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/P... My question is: How the heck do you use a bait caster? How do you spool it with line? What the heck are these "magnetic braking systems"? How do you cast? Any other advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

  • What the heck happend to my x-rap!?!?

Ok so get this. I was bass fishing yesterday, using an X-rap size 10 in rainbow trout color. I was casting along the wind blown shore and was catching good numbers of bass. All of a sudden WACK! I had a good hit, but missed on the hook set. I kept jerking and pausing and i see this damn fish flippin out trying to grab the x-rap. At the last second this fish turns and goes into deeper water and it looked like a 15-18 inch bass or walleye, i couldn't really tell because it all happened so quick. I kept casting and hitting the same spot where the fish hit, after a few casts WACK! again, i set the hook and had him on and wouldn't you know it, my knot came undone! So as i stood there frustrated and in disarray of what just happened, this damn fish comes to the surface so quickly that i still couldn't tell if it was a walleye or bass. It starts thrashing around and my x-rap flies out of its mouth and lands about 8 ft away from me in the water, and just floats there. So im like "sweet im getting my x-rap back", i grab a stick and bring it in, go to tie it back on and the damn lip is snapped in half!! What the heck do you think happened to that lure while that fish had it? Could it have been a small muskie that bit the lip in half? Could a walleye do that? Did it snap from being thrashed against rocks while the fish had it?? I don't know...What do you think?? lol

  • Does anyone use copolymer fishing line? What are the benefits? Pros/Cons?

Im looking to switch from monofiliment, to a copolymer fishing line, i dont like fluorocarbon, or braid. I read that the copolymer line still has some stretch which is what i like. Does anyone use copolymer line? What are the benefits, pros/cons of this line compared to regular monofiliment? Can you use copolymer on a spinning reel? I will be fishing for bigger smallies, and large mouths, so im thinking about just going with 10 lb test copolymer, what do you think? Thanks

  • Im entering a fishing tournament for small mouth bass, any good tips?

Im entering a local fishing tournament soon, for Small mouths, muskie, and walleye. For the tournament im going to target the small mouths, I dont fish for river small mouth bass, I generally fish the local lake for Large mouth, and fair pretty well. Ive tried useing some of my large mouth tactics for smallmouths with out much success. I fished one spot on the river the other day with a friend, we had no luck all day, until the evening came and the small mouths started smashing topwater lures then they just turned off again. The ones we did catch on top water luers were small but we did catch a few 2 to 3 pounders. Does any one have any tips or tactics on how to locate and catch these small mouths during mid day or any other time? Which lures you think work best and how to use them? How to catch even bigger smallmouths? The river we will fish for the tournament is very shallow, most of the river i see is only 3 to 5 ft deep and shallower. There are some pockets of 5 to 7 ft. But i dont think it gets any deeper then that. Any advice, tips, and tactics will be appreciated, thanks!!
