Debt collection?
Got a cadebtoday from a "processor". Was referred to another company who informed me that they were about to take me to court if I didn't pay X amount today in full. They claimed that this was the 3rd contact attempt. (This is false or they have wrong info)
This debt is not mine. My ex husband had a phone put in my name shortly after I left is sorry ***. This was in 1999 in NC. They claim that Sprint home phone (whom I'm guessing bought out the local company a few years ago) is the one filing a civil law suit against me do 713 bucks.
I've asked to have them verify this debt.... I've asked for the info so I can dispute this debt. But im told i cant because theyve confirmed all my info and "only a lawyer has access to this kind of info". Ive checked my credit report and it's not on there....
Not sure if this is legit OR legal... or if they are just trying to use scare tactics.
Any thoughts?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoHome Owners insurance check question?
Ok I had a flood in my house and had to file a insurance claim. Finally got the check today and it has my banks name on it (lien holder and this was expected so biggie there). They claim we have in excess of 15k in damages. Because of water damage and the possibility of black mold we have done most of the demo ourselves and sprayed for black mold as well. This has saved us about 5k.
I guess my main question is this... after we are done with ALL the repairs... will the bank release the rest of the money to us so we can reimburse ourselves? I am expecting them to cut the checks to the people actually doing the repairs and I figure they will come do a inspection or have us summit pictures of the process but just wondering if I will have a issue getting the rest of the money at the end. With the money that we saved we would like to get a new roof as well.
4 AnswersInsurance7 years agoKindle Touch wont turn on?
I charged my Kindle Touch over night. The light went from the amber light last night to green this morning showing it is fully charged. It wont turn on now and is stuck on the opening screen with the boy sitting under the tree.
I have tried to hard reset / reboot several times. All it does is every few minutes the green power light comes on and the screen goes blank then the opening screen comes back on.
Any tips would be great.
Laptops & Notebooks8 years agoEx husband harrassing me.... help please.?
We share a son who is 13 yrs old. For the first 6 years of his life he was not around at all. I have been married to my current husand for over 10 years and he really is daddy to my son.
Since my ex has been back in the picture he visits about 3-4 times a year and does pay child support (only because the court garnished his checks...but whatever works). He does live out of state. I swear this man is crazy. One day he is acting like my BFF and the next (like today) he is sending me text messages saying that he sees what I am doing and he is tired of playing my games... and he is going to "do things his way from now on". I have not spoken to this man in 3 months since our son has a cell so he can stay in direct contact.
I started to keep a record of this craziness about 2 years ago. My ex has done stuff like:
Call me on HIS HONEYMOON to tell me that he hired a Private I to watch over me and "build a case against me"
MANY emails and texts saying that hes going to take me to court and gain full sole custody of my child... and the reasons vary from I'm a horrible mother... to I dont have a job (i'm full time in nursing school / I also take care of a eldering father fighting cancer and my hsuband works full time)... or another reason is because I go through my childs phone and ipod to see what he is up to... Yes thats part of what makes me a horrible mother.
I guess my question is... do I have any kind of legal recourse here? As long as my son wants to see this man I will not fight for full custody myself but I can't stand the harrassment anymore or the threats. I'm a good mother and a good person.
My ex's main problem is that he hates when he is not in 100% control of everything. And he has more money then me... I'm broke because of being a single income family but I saved for 2-3 years to pay off big bills before I went back to school and I do not accept goverment help like food stamps.
Any tips would be great

I was looking at my tax return and after really reading it line for line I see something strange...

Now the higher amount is also listed on the return itself on line 42 and 43 and I filed a 1040A
I guess my question is... the IRS doesnt care what TT shows they just care about the numbers that are listed on the 1040 itself...correct?

3 AnswersUnited States8 years agoI efiled my taxes last week... They were accepted 1/25/2013...question?
I knew when I efiled that they would be held on the Turbo Tax servers until the IRS started to pull / or request / returns. I was amazed and shocked when I got a email today stateing that the IRS has accepted my return today 1/25/2013
I guess I am wondering what to expect now. I'm not counting on getting my return until Mid feb... just in case but I want to know if they are going to go ahead and process the return... could it be that mine happens to be in one of the first bunches that "test the system". Mines a pretty simple return and I only have a school deduction so nothing to major...
If you guys have any info or ideas I'd like to hear about it.

5 AnswersUnited States8 years agoI have a A.S. degree (teaching) but want to go back for nursing.... Gov financial aide question?
In 2008 I obtained a AS degree geared towards teaching. About that same time the laws in my state changed and I decided I no longer wanted to reach.
I was just laid off and my state will pay for me to go to nursing school and get my RN.
Because I already have a AS my local college is going to try and get me funded under a AA degree. Can they do this? What are the chances?
2 AnswersFinancial Aid9 years agoNew horse owner / broken hoof question?
We have had this horse about a week and the rescue were we got him said that his feet were done 2 weeks ago.
He is in a open pasture and has access to shelter (was beat in a barn so does not like the stable). Due to crazy weather in Florida our pasture is very wet but all other horses are handling this pretty well...staying on higher ground.
Today we took this horse out for a short ride (we always check them out before we ride) and after a 10 minute ride when we got off we noticed right away that he was favoring his foot. When we checked him out it appears that a pretty good chuck of the front of his hoof has broke off. Compaired to before and compaired to his other hoof it looks like maybe 3/4 inch... No bruises / blood / abscesses.
Called the farrier.... texted a pic to him and he says that all I can do is watch him. Try to keep him dry and of course DO NOT RIDE HIM....
But really... is there anything that I can do to help him? He favors it and has a slight limp but I hate to see this baby hurt. That is why we took him in in the first place. Advice and tips please.
5 AnswersHorses9 years agoMY dogs killing ducks... tips please?
I have a 5 month old pit / shep mix that has started to kill our ducks. We share a yard with my parents and these are their ducks.... so they are allowed to run free and I have no say over it.
Anyway I have talked to our vet because someone told us that getting her fixed will work... Vet says not true (getting her fixed anyway because its the responsable thing to do...) We were told that we should tie the dead duck around her neck for up to a week... but I don't know anyone who have actully tried this and it seems cruel.
I can put her on a dog run but that does not mean that the ducks wont wonder into her area.
Anyone have any useful tips before I try to find her a new home.
6 AnswersDogs9 years agoNew horse owner... tips needed?
Ok guys I have rode before but this is our first time owning a horse and really we only took them (we took in 2) in because the lasy was moving and was going to put them down...
Anyway we know very little about them so are starting them as if they have never been rode (also getting vet and ferrier out Tuesday...)
Here is what we DO know.
The mare is 5 years old. She took the halter ok... but locks up when we try to lead her. She will allow us to tack her up... she will allow my 9 yr old to mount her but will not take anyone heavier.
The gelding is 7 yrs old and he seems like a big baby. He loads, he leads, he lifts his feet, he backs up... in general has great ground manners. When he gets bored he tends to crowd me while I'm leading him but we are working on that.
He gets very pushie when it is time to feed.... He tacks up and will allow anyone on his but after several minutes he starts to get that wild eyed crazy look and wants to bolt. (we are thinking maybe his teeth hurt...?)
So we know the vet will be able to give a better idea but I was hoping that maybe you guys might have some basic insight or tips in the mean time. I have watched just about every video on Youtube that I can find lol
Thanks for the help guys!!
7 AnswersHorses9 years agoTook in 2 rescuse horses.... Tips please?
Ok we got a 7 yr old gelding and 5 yr old mare. Other then this and their names all we know is that the owner was moving and if they were not re-homed she was gonna put them down. I have rode before but this is my familys first time owning a horse and I would like any advise you can give.
Here is what we know... the gelding (my horse) has some ground manners... Leads ok but after a short while wants to crowd me. I will make him stop, push him away (hes 16+ hands but a big baby) then start all over, always with a calm voice. He loads ok. Lifts his feet ect. He will take a bit but chews ALOT. He will stand and allow us to saddle him with no issues what so ever...
We have not tried to ride him yet because 1) his feet are horrible and 2) we want to give them both time to settle in.
The Mare.... Took over a hour to load, HATES a halter, will NOT open her mouth for a bit but once we get a halter on her she leads ok as long as the gelding is close by...
Here is what we are doing (only had them a coupld of days)... Has a vet set to come out and do a over all check and float teeth as needed / shots / coggins ect.... also have the ferrier coming next week to work on their feet..
I guess my main question is.... what else can we do? We did not expect to be able to jump on and ride these horses right away... I have been reading everything I can about horses and care.... but are we on the right track here? Respect comes first then everything will fall into place.
How do I gain respect with this gelding? The mare is my husbands and he is hands on with her since she seems to be a kicker....
Any thoughts or tips that you can share?
Thanks!!

1 AnswerOther - Pets9 years agoWhat does this mean... Compromise letter from DCF... Not sure what they need me to send?
They over paid me and I am making arrangements to repay. I asked for a "compromise" sense I am out of work.
On of the options that would allow me to get a compromise is "The sole household's income is based only on either age or disability.
I have to provide documentation to prove the above "option" but I am not sure what they want and when I call I can never reach anyone. Does anyone have any clue?

1 AnswerGovernment9 years agoGrounds for full custody in Florida?
I am the full time parent. My child is 12 yrs old and very smart for his age. The father lives in NC and is not very involved in the childs life. Few calls, fewer visits, he does however pay support. He has recently divorced and remarried. I allow him to talk to his ex step mother. She is a kind person and there is no reason not to allow this. My ex is demanding that this stop. I refused to make it stop.
Because of this my ex thinks that he can take me to court and any judge will grant him full custody. There are also other issues
1) I allow the child to talk to the ex step parent
2) I recently filed a mod for child support based on the fact that he is not paying braces (which was ordered in the divorce)
3) he feels that I am unstable (no reasoning behind this just his feelings)
4) states that the child is in a hostile enviroment (not sure who is hostile to who)
5) he makes alot more then I do and can afford and high priced lawyer and I can't
Here are the facts of my hosue hold
1) I work full time as does my husband of 9 years
2) there is no abuse of any kind. Not towards me or the kids.
3) the kids (I have 2 total) have everything they need and most of the things that they want
4) They are fed and clothed
5) no mental illness and never been visited by DCF
just because he has money... does that mean he can walk into a court and gain full custody "just because" and will the child have a say in any of this?

2 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoCan the ex gain full custody like this?
So ok I'm freakin out a little and probably not looking at this clearly. We have been divorced for 11 years. He sees the child about 2 times a year. Pays child support. He just recently got divorced and remarried all in the same month. He is failing to pay his half of our childs braces and I filled a mod on our child support. Now he says that he is going to fight me for full custody because 1) I filled for more child support 2) I allow him to talk to his ex step mother 3) I am unstable because of #1 and #2. I am not a unfit mother. I pay my bills and my kids are clean feed. I do not do drugs and I work full time. I am married and we have 2 incomes. What are the grounds to take a 12 yr old child away. The only issue I have is he can afford a lawyer and I can't
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoLong story but the ex causeing drama / possible legal issues?
So... another legal(s) question. I NEED to get a lawyer but of course no ones around until Monday and I will worry myself to death until then. My ex calls me tonight. This is all about the issue a few months ago where my son asked to be adopted... So my ex tells me tonight that I will be getting served with papers hahahah...
When I ask what for he tells me that there are several things pending with the state att. 1) fraud. his child support is auto deduct from his check. In the past his company has over paid me and when I took steps to give it back I was told that all I had to do was agree to allow them to take "X" amount out of each payment in the future to cover it and that's the best way to resolve this... that is what I have been doing. The last few weeks they have been double paying me. I called them and as per the agreement they told me that if his company sends it in with my name that they have to give it to me and if it is a over payment then they will just keep taking "X" amount until it is covered. Fine not a problem... he states that my case worker (at my request) has forged papers saying that he is in arrears and that they have auth the state to take double payments until this is caught up... I have not been to court / talked to judge / filed ANY sort of papers about child support. I am clue less but needless to say PER the ex I have a fraud charge coming.
2)He then tells me that he has hired a PI and this person has been following me for the last 8 weeks... they know every breathe that I take (If this is true then I hope this person was bored to tears!) States that he now knows everything about me... my employment record, 9 years of bank statements. Both of my kids school records (my daughter is not even his...) ect...Because of this, this has helped the state prove that there is cause to file neglect charges on me and take my kids... now maybe i am stupid but wouldn't DCF or some other agency have to look into this. Visit me, visit my home ect? I have NEVER been visited my DCF or had cause to have them visit me.
3) my husband in under a PTI. This is for theft and his first offense ever. He was adv that as long as he behaves / shows up for his monthly check ins / pays the fines / does not get in any trouble that there are no other restrictions... he can come and go... drink even within reason and leave the county as needed... we went to NC back in Feb... My ex caused me and my husband to fight. It was bad and my ex called the cops. He is telling me that with one phone call he can have him arrested for this issue... the cops that responded at the time of issue ran his name... checked all his info and released him from the scene. How the hell can he cause my husband to be arrested for a issue that happened out of state when the responding cops did not see fit to?
and last I promise)
4) he says that the states has me for insurance fraud... Both of my kids are on Florida Kid care. have been for years. My ex now states that he can prove that he has had insurance on my son for the last 9 years and I just failed to use it... This is not something that I was ever advised of. In fact he told my mother that when we divorced the judge told him he had to pay for it...not give me the info... It's hear say but....
