I read a series of books as a child, but I cannot remember the titles. They were about a boy growing up in the Midwest, I believe in Missouri, around the late 1800s or possibly early 1900s. He had an brother who antagonized him, and one scene I remember clearly was him donning a football helmet (the old leather kind) to protect his head while his brother pelted him with rocks. I'm sorry I don't have anymore information than that.
