If so, how long would someone be sick before they died?

I'm writing a mystery story. My protagonist gets lost, and ends up stumbling upon a dead body. The corpse is someone they saw alive hours ago, and when they first see the body, they think the person is still alive. I want the moment they realize the person is dead to be a shocking WHAM! line, but I don't know how. Can you provide examples of writers who have done this successfully?

In the story I am writing, one character poisons another by putting some sort of poison plant in their salad. It needs to meet the following criteria:

-Looks like something that would normally be in a salad, to avoid raising questions.

-Acts extremely quickly

-Would kill you in one quantity, and only make you sick in another.

Do you know any plants like this? If none exist, how else could the salad be poisoned?

Also, apologies if this is wrongly categorized. I m not sure where to put it....

-What is a height that a lot of people would jump, that is relatively safe?

- What is a height that would be dangerous to jump from without a professional, but that people would *think* is not that dangerous?

- What is an injury you could get from cliff diving that would be fairly serious, but wouldn't kill you?

I just went out a little while ago to feed my goats, and I noticed one was just sitting curled into a ball with her head on her stomach. She was also scouring, and seems to be in a lot of pain. Her stools are dark and sort of pasty, with lumps in them. She seemed a little funny last night, but was fine this morning. She is keeping her neck sort of curved, and seems stiff. Does anyone now what this could be?

I"m making a movie for a class, and I need a nickname for a character. He is a tough, cool mafia-type guy, and the nickname will be used by his great aunt. It would be best if it was really embarrassing.Thanks.

I have to write about my personality, likes/dislikes and things I'm good/bad at. I have no idea what to use for my opening sentence. Any ideas?

So for art class we had to make a collage of pictures we drew about an issue we care about. I chose to make mine about why factory farming is not good. So far all I have is a sad-looking pig in a crate , and it takes up most of the board except for some space on the bottom and sides. My teacher doesn't want more than a few words on the poster, so what else should I add? I need something easy to draw, because I'm bad at it. Any ideas ?
