  • Can active duty get a slot on a reserve/NG post?

I'm an E4 (about to get E5) Active Duty Finance soldier (36B) with 6 years in. I'm currently stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. I would like to be stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ. I know this is a Reserve/NG base. Right now I am the Reserve/NG NCOIC. Is there any possibility of getting stationed there? And if so, how do I find out/go about it (other than calling branch).

  • Can I put a 2nd floor on my house, Colorado Springs, CO?

I live in El Paso County, Colorado. On my side of the street, all the homes are ranch style. There are 2 story homes on the other side of the street. My husband and I would like to put a second floor on our home to be our master suite. I've called the city zoning board, the planning board, the city clerk. No one knows if we'd be allowed to di this!! I've searched everywhere on line and can't find a thing.

Does anyone happen to know if we'd be able to or where I could find the information? I'm getting very frustrated.

  • How does the Injured Spouse form work?

My husband and I are both military. I am Active Duty, he is National Guard. He has been unable to find work all year, so he stays home and takes care of the kids (actively looking for work).

With some mandatory training, drill weekend and AT, he made about $8,000 this year. I, on the other hand, made about $26,000.

Because he's been out of work, he is about $7500 behind on child support (50% of his military pay goes directly to it when he does drill, train, ect.)

I have no obligation to pay his debt and will not do so. I already provide insurance for his daughter. In addition to her, he has a son that lives with us, I have 2 sons from a previous marriage, and together we have a daughter. So, we have 4 children ranging from 8 weeks old to 10 years old living with us.

When we file, we will file jointly to maximize our refund. I just did the H&R Block estimator calculator and it says we'll be getting about $9500 back. I plan on filing the Injured Spouse form at the same time I file my return.

How will they split up the money and determine how much we will actually get back? Is there anyway I can figure this out on my own?

  • What were the actual cars used in Disney's Cars?

I'm most interested in what Flo was. I know a lot of the others, but can't seem to find any info on her year make and model.

Sorry if it seems like a weird question, but my husband and I are in the market for a restoration and I love the lines. =)

  • Save money or pay off debt?

My husband and I just bought our first home and will be getting the $8000 first time home buyers credit in a few weeks. Not including our home and car, we are about $10,000 in debt. Some current, some in collections.

I want to use about $6000 to pay off a few unsecured loans, credit cards and collections, which would free up more money from my monthly pay to go to the remaining debt and savings.

My husband wants to put about $4000 in savings and use the rest to pay off some of the debt.

Because our monthly bills are close to being more than my take home pay, I think it would be better to pay off more upfront, thereby eliminating intrest payments that pretty much just waste our money.

I understand the importance of having liquid assets, especially now being a home owner.

    Any advice?

  • Can I wear my Schützenschnur (German Marksmanship award) stateside?

I got my bronze Schützenschnur (German marksmanship award) in 2005 while serving in Germany. I always wore it on my Class A's while in Germany. I was told it was authorized for wear in Germany only because thats it's contry of origin and I would not be allowed to wear it once back stateside.

Then when I got here, I was told its at the commanders discretion and most of the time because he as an officer can't wear it, he won't allow me to wear it. I've been looking in the regulations and can't find anything.

I have a board coming up and would like to wear it just to show that I have something a little extra that other soldiers don't have and to give me that little extra oomph. I have asked through my chain of command and no one seems to have an answer for me. Can anyone help?

  • Will disputes help my credit go up?

I am trying to buy a home and the lender pulled our credit reports. I try to stay on them as much as possible though the year, but this one blew me away. There is so much wrong information on it for both myself and my husband. We are in the process of disputing everything. Once things are cleared up, will this increase our scores significantly? My middle score is 592 but there are at least 10 wrong items (negative) that need to be removed.

  • Name Change w/o Divorce?

I am trying to revert back to the use of my maiden name. I am not getting divorced. But for professional reasons, I would like to use my maiden name. I have been married and using that name 6 years. Do I have to go thru a court to get this approved?
