1 AnswerCooking & Recipes1 decade agoPower adaptor compatibility (North America)?
I have an external hard-disk drive & can't find the power cord for it. I have many, many devices in the house that use power adaptors, so I was hoping I could use one of those on the hard drive. Will any cord that will fit be compatible? Or is it more complicated than that?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoGE (Hotpoint) dryer - took apart - need help putting back together!!!?
This is about a GE (Hotpoint) dryer that is a little over 30 years old. I took it apart to check on the element but can't figure out how to put it back together.
Specifically : the drum had to come out to get at the element. I don't see how I'm supposed to get all the parts to line up putting the drum back in from the front & trying to attach it to the rotating axle-thingy. Is it possible to detach the axle-thingy from the back, then put it all together (drum, disc that covers the element, axle) outside the dryer, then putting the whole thing back in? If so, how does that part come off? Is it just a matter of popping off the C-clip, and what is the best tool to use for this?
Thanks to all who answer.
3 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoElectric stove surface burners not working?
I had a power outage at my house that caused all the fuses to blow on my electric stove (HotPoint, can't find model number anywhere, about 25-30 years old). I replaced all of the fuses. The oven works fine, but none of the surface burners do (it seems everybody else has the opposite problem!). Opened the back cover & everything looks fine... no evidence of burning, charring, etc.
What confuses me is that the burners are paired in two independent circuits. I can't seem to find anything that could explain how both of these are down & not the oven. Could the elements themselves have fried? As I said, everything _looks_ fine.
I don't want to spend a lot of money on this stove as it is already quite old. Any ideas what to try?
Thanks in advance to all who answer.

5 AnswersEthnic Cuisine1 decade agoDo mosquito-repellent arm bands work?
I just saw in a store little plastic bands that can be worn around the wrist or ankle (kind of like flea collars for pets) that are said to repel mosquitos. Has anyone tried them? Do they work at all?
Thanks for all your answers.
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoContainer tomatoes in zone 3?
I have two tomato plants in container in my inner-city backyard. Zone 3. Unusually high amount of rain lately. Fertilized weekly.
Plants are growing well, but they seem very leafy and there are hardly any blossoms yet.
My question is: at what point in the season should there be lots of blossoms in zone 3?

4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoDog had back surgery?
My basset hound had surgery for a herniated disc about 1 1/2 years ago (hemilaminectomy/fenestration). She is doing generally well, but she does seem to feel a little bit achy/stiff at times, and I find it hard to gauge exactly how much exercise she can handle. I am also worried about a possible recurrence.
I would like to hear from any dog owners who have been through this experience. Anything you would like to share (long and short term outcomes, how you managed the dog, what products/meds/supplements worked for you, etc) would be appreciated.
Right now she is on daily doses of Metacam (anti-inflammatory), Robaxin (back muscle relaxant), Glucosamine, and fish oil. My vet thinks she might do better on a steroid.
Please don't tell me to ask the vet... I am there all the time! I'm asking here because vets don't have the experience of living with this day-to-day, and because it is so expensive not many of their patients go through with this. For this I think owners know best.

2 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoHow much sun for tomatoes?
I live in the city. My small yard receives a lot of shade from neighboring trees & buildings. I have two tomato plants in containers, so I can move them around, but I'd rather not have to do this too many times a day!
My question is this: how many hours of direct sunlight do tomatoes need to mature properly? I have one plum type and one cherry type.
