  • How does intrinsic value work for options trading?

I understand that the option value is the intrinsic value + time value and if it is a out of the money call option there is no intrinsic value whatsoever however how is the intrinsic value determined overtime as it gets closer to the expiration date? The time value is based on how much time is left but does the intrinsic value determined by the traders or who?

So for example of a company is at $9 and the $10 out of the money strike price goes for $1.40 (so its $1 intrinsic and $0.40 for time value). What happens if the stock price goes to $11 or if it goes down to $8? I'm confused because I know that the intrinsic value is determined by the price of the stock but is there any way of calculating there that is going or is that completely just based on the market?

    Thanks

  • Calculus Problem - Proportionality?

The amount of radiation R(t) emitted from a solid decreases at a rate of proportional to the amount present, dR/dt = kr, where k is the constant of proportionality and t is measured in years. In 1900, the amount of radiation was 100 rads. By the year 2000 it has dropped to 75 rads. To the nearest year, when will 50 rads be emitted from the solid? (round k to the nearest thousandths)

Thanks a lot and it would be best if you show the work!
