To solve the deficit which should we do? I think we should do both I have no idea why Republicans think we can just cut spending when every economist says we have to raise taxes.

Why do you need a gun? After the assassination attempt of Gabby Giffords after the Virginia Tech shooting after the Columbine High school massacre how can you want loser gun restrictions? If no one had guns no one would get killed by them simple as that. The founding fathers wrote it to mean that the people should have the right when a militia is needed. So i guess theres an argument that if the Chinese invade us and beat our military which is the most advanced in the world that guns are necessary. But thats not going to happen because china would be destroyed if we were destroyed. They depend on us as much as we depend on them. So what is the real reason for owning a gun? Why would you ever need a submachine gun or an automatic assault rifle or a pistol that hold 30 rounds? Why?

I personally like obama's plan because it put everything on the table including reforming the tax code so there is no loop holes, getting rid of the bush tax cuts for the top 2%, cutting defense cutting medicare and medicaid but not to harshly. Ryan's plan does nothing for revenue increases and to balance the money he loses with the tax revenue he cuts 700 billion from medicaid which gives money directly to the poor, he doesn't touch defense he actually increases it and he ends medicare as we know it! I don't know i mean i'm kinda on board with the president's idea of "shared sacrifice shared prosperity" but what do you think?

I think people don't understand the other candidates enough to accurately make a decision because i see people saying "no i'm not voting for him" but they never say who they are voting for. I mean your choices other than him are Newt Gingrich the guy who cheated on his wife while she had cancer, Mitt Romney who created Obamacare and is a robot who cannot connect to humans on an emotional level, Mike Huckabee the christian fanatic who drinks soup out of a straw and believes that evolution is a myth that The president grew up in Kenya and that Julian Assange should be executed by a firing squad, Tim Pawlenty who is as boring as Harry Reid, Sarah Palin who thought sputnik which was launched in 1957 bankrupted the soviet union and caused it to fail in 1991, Michelle Bachman who thought the founding fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery even though the defended it at the constitutional convention in 1788, Donald Trump who want's to steal oil from countries like Iraq and who thinks the President of the United States of America is not american, and Ron Paul who i don't know anything about and am left to assume he will lose in the primaries as he did in 2008.

So who are you voting for if not Obama??????

I'm asking this as an independent not as a loony liberal. I mean i've looked at the facts and the list of what he did and from what i can understand he was a terrible president.

I mean Cons:

1 Under his administration the unemployment rate went up to 10.8 it's highest since the 1930

2 Household debt went up 111%

3 Personal bankruptcies went up 610%

4 Incarcerations due to finances and drugs went up 355%

5 Anti depressant sales went up 305%

6 Health care costs went up 78%

7 The average CEO made 649% MORE THAN THE AVERAGE WORKER

8 The top 1% income was cut in half causing massive revenue short falls increasing the deficit

9 Middle class income tax however stayed the same

10 Increased the Federal deficit by 29%

11 Deregulated the economy setting the stage for the men to follow him who caused the great recession

12 Sold arms to afghanistan terrorist groups the contras a militant right wing extremest group that killed innocent people in nicaragua illegally it was impeachable what he was doing as well as iran and lebanon

13 Invaded grenada an island owned by the british

14 Created star wars which everyone said wouldn't work but still threw billions at it

15 turned down gorbachev's offer of eliminating all nuclear weapons

16 blamed the recession during his presidency on women

2 Tore down the Berlin wall (not really made the speech then two years later it was torn down)

4 Gave temporary growth to the economy that ended in 2008 with the start of the Great Recession

So tell me why do people like him as a president and idolize him as a conservative god?

Please say why you like him or dislike him (and don't just say he's a liar because every politician is) if you voted for him in 2008 and if you will vote for him in 2012. Also on a scale from 1 to 10 how would you rate his presidency so far?

He was the complete opposite of conservative. He increased the national deficit from 0 to 2 trillion dollars. He actually increased the size of government employment of government rose by 4% under his administration. His economic theory of Reaganomics increased unemployment to at one point over 10%. He funded the Mujahideen who evolved into the Taliban. He funded the totalitarian human rights abusing contras in nicaragua Even after the congress made a law that banned it. He went against the law directly! What he was doing was impeachable. And he didn't tear down the Berlin wall he made the speech and then two years later he tore down the wall. He wanted to bring the nuclear missile count down to zero! He supports immigration and amnesty. He opposed equal rights for african americans during the civil rights movement. Why do conservatives love this man? He's the exact opposite of the modern conservative movement.

The president is saying that he is proposing making cuts in social programs but no details on defense. Why wouldn't he cut the defense budget? Right now it's at around $680 BILLION. The country with the next highest military budget is china that spends 100 Billion. We have a higher military budget than the next 25 countries combined 24 of which we are allied with 8 of which are a members of NORAD. We make up 40% of the worlds military expenditure. And yes I realize we are in the middle of a war but I don't think we need a $150 million f-22 fighter jet when we are facing an enemy without an air force. I don't think we need to spend 9.9 billion on ballistic missile defense program when our enemies have no ballistic missiles and good luck shooting a missile with a missile that's like shooting a bullet with a bullet. I don't think we need to spend 5.4 billion dollars on submarines when we are against a land locked country. This is just logic. If we want to cut the deficit we should at least make an effort to cut the defense budget as well as social security and medicare.

I'm thinking about applying for Army ROTC when I go to college. Not at a military college but at a civilian college. I'm curious to what it is and what you do. Do you have to wear uniforms to classes? Do you take classes for ROTC? Is it hard to get a scholarship through ROTC? Are there obligations in the summer? Will I be eligible after completion of ROTC after college to be deployed to active combat duty overseas? Will I go to Boot Camp after college? Is the college experience of a civilian student different from that of a student taking ROTC?
