I need to Ask Mike: Newly posted YA questions are disappearing?
I often go to the Engineering Section of Yahoo Answers and lately something very odd is happening. All the new questions have been deleted and only questions that are 2-3 weeks old are still there. This just started about 2 weeks ago and it is frustrating and annoying. Can anyone at Yahoo Answers or elsewhere tell me how to fix this problem?
2 AnswersYahoo Answers5 years agoWhat is this linear bearing called?
There is three piece linear bearing consists of a highly polished cylindrical hardened steel precision linear shaft, a bronze sleeve with 1 mm balls embedded so they are free to rotate in place, and a steel collar whose inside diameter fits tightly around the OD of the bronze sleeve. This is used in punch presses and plastic mold tooling. It provides very smooth, highly accurate motion with low friction.
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoIs diarrhea unhealthy?
Each night before bedtime I supplement with magnesium in both liquid suspension form and pill form, and invariably it gives me diarrhea the next morning. Sometimes pencil-thick, sometimes mushy, and sometimes (rarely) it comes out liquid. It's very predictable, between 8 and 9 AM each morning. I am careful to make sure I drink enough water to avoid dehydration. There is nothing inconvenient, uncomfortable, or unpleasant about this daily ritual. On the contrary, before I started this regimen, I sometimes suffered constipation and clogged toilets.
If inconvenience and potential dehydration are not problems, is there anything wrong with loose stools that come on suddenly each morning? I can easily avoid the issue by taking less magnesium but I'm wondering if there is any harm is continuing my current ways.
3 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoLooking for a term used in legal liability and medical ethics?
I'm looking for a term in medical ethics. If I actively do something that results in your harm, that is called strict liability, and there is abundant legal precedent assigning guilt. But what if I prevent you from doing something that ultimately leads to your harm? It seems that strict liability can never be established because I diidn't actually DO something that created the harm. I am looking for the term that describes the disconnect of legal liability stemming from inaction on the part of the accused.
For example, say I am a doctor and I tell you NOT to take a particular vitamin because I have no knowledge of any benefit and I just don't believe in that stuff. But it turns out that years later you develop a chronic degenerative disorder that appears to be caused by a deficiency of that nutrient. Clinical studies show a clear association and a highly likely causative effect. The medical / legal environment doesn't assign liability based on inaction or failure to recommend a vitamin with benefits that have not been definitively proven. I don't think this is called "the null hypothesis" but I am searching for a similar term that describes this condition.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhat is the meaning of having a tiger by the tail?
It seems to refer to a situation where at first blush you imagine you are controlling a situation only to realize (too late) it is far more dangerous than you thought. So it seems like the person using this phrase is warning you to exercise extreme caution because you basically have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Do I have this right? Any other interpretations?

1 AnswerBoats & Boating1 decade agoWhat was the value of 1000 rubles (roubles) in 1912?
Almost 100 years ago my grandfather spirited 1000 rubles out of Russia in the form of 2 500 ruble notes. I am not asking what they are worth today to collectors. (They are in very warn condition.) I am wondering how many days, weeks, months, or years it took to save up such a princely sum. My guess is that for peasants like my Russian ancestors, this amounted to a year's worth of savings, and maybe more. Any insight you can offer would be appreciated.
