The picture, in case you can't read it, says "Stand back, I'm going to try science." It's courtesy of www.xkcd.com a hilarious comic if you happen to be of scientific (or maybe not so scientific) inclinations. As for me, I've just finished up my studies in chemistry and chemical engineering, working on taking the summer off right now.

  • 2011 is the Year of Chemistry!?

    Dear Yahoo Answers Community,

This is my first question I've ever asked on Y!, but I figure here is as good of a place as any to do it. As you may or may not know, 2011 is the Year of Chemistry! I've been trying to think of things to do to help promote/support the year of chemistry, but have so far come up wanting. I would love to volunteer in the community, or get involved with some kind of outreach program, but unfortunately my work schedule does not permit anything that requires a large amount of planning. the best my friends and I have come up with is to try and do a "Chemistry Blog" of sorts, where there could be posts about chemistry in your everyday life, or basically "chemistry for the rest of us" to help people realize how applicable it is to their everyday lives.

I guess my ultimate question is this: What would be good ways to promote chemistry either semi-spontaneously in a community, or via the internet. Failing that, what would be good topics to write about in an everyday chemistry blog? I'd be interested to hear from chemically minded or chemically ignorant folks alike.

Thanks in advance for you help!
