About me? Well this is a question, I ask myself everyday. It's quite simple, I'm known to my family and friends as a wife and mother of two teenage daughters (God help me), with a gift for common sense. Because I have never been a student with great intellect I like to think about myself as a student of life. The more I learn about others, their culture, their lives, their challanges, their hopes, their fears, what makes them laugh, the happier I will be. In the meantime I have returned to school after having sold a business and I am in a very interesting position in life. I strongly believe that our educational system is much like our healthcare system (where I spent 20+ yrs of my professional life). It is bady in need of a total revamping, customer/client focused and more focus on a broader, my innovative way to treat and teach. Thats about it! Thank you!
Why do we not put more importance on the Emotional Intelligence in our society?
We have been so focused on the intellect that we have neglected the need to explore and educate the emotional intelligence. That is why we are now finding ourselves with students graduating from various programs unprepared to deal with real life scenarios such as crisis management skill, the ability to be resourceful and solve unexpected problems and we have developed a gap in our ability to communicate amongst one another that has become so wide that even with today's technology communicating and expressing ideas, thoughts, strategies, etc. is not something that we are able to do in the work place, in our schools in our own government. So given that, why would we continue to stick with a system that is clearly "weeding out" a diverse group of people who may not have the highest GPAs, SATs, etc. but are well grounded, gifted with the ability to communicate effective through their emotions and by responding to the observed emotions of those around us and have common sense.
