  • "In riding a horse, you borrow freedom"?

  • Thrown off 3 weeks ago...how do I get over nerves?

ok, so 3 weeks ago i was thrown from my horse. long story short...while opening gate the latch got caught in my stirrup and when she pulled away we were stuck. and combination of that with a training fork on, she freaked out and started bucking out of control. (I realize alot of this is my fault) i sustained a bad concussion and dislocated shoulder. now i'm feeling pretty ok, shoulder still a bit sore.

i've decided to ride tonight. i'm going to work her in the round pen first for awhile to get the nerves and energy out, i also plan on riding in the round pen. my horse has never spooked that bad before and she has never bucked with me before, but i'm still a bit nervous. this is the worst injury i've had and the worst bucking i've experienced (maybe i shouldn't have put into such good condition :-)

so my question is, what can i do and tell myself to help get over the nerves and get back on tonight?

  • Equine Chiropractic??

ok so i'm just wondering if any of you have personally seen benefits of equine chiropractic? i just had my horse adjusted last night and have to wait a couple of days to ride again, so i can't tell yet if it helped. she was having issues with picking up the right lead, so i thought i'd try chiropractic. what have your experiences with it been?

  • Am I the only one that ever uses FORCO for weight gain?

So I keep seeing all these posts asking how to put weight on their horse. And in all the answers I'm the only one to ever suggest FORCO and i'm starting to think no one else has heard of it. so does anyone else no about it? it did wonders for my 25 yea old QH rescue. People need to understand that horses need probiotics sometimes to help digest their food. you can feed them all you want but they might not be breaking down the food and getting all it's nutrients. anyway, here's the link if you're interested in putting weight on your horse.

  • Why do people blame their horses??

ok so i'm really tired of people that blame their horse for their mistake. i'm kind of just venting here. but i'm so tired of these people that can't ride and blame their horse for their mistakes. like "my horse doesn't listen to me or do what i'm asking"...how about you don't know what your doing??? yeah sometimes there are horses that with even the best rider don't listen. but for the most part, i believe it's rider error. what do you think?

  • Bad trail etiquette experiences?

so this questioned is spawned off another post http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApYUB... about people and horse pet peeves.

What are some of your bad experiences or peeves about trail riding and the annoying people with no trail etiquette?

    here is mine:

I trail ride most of the time...so mine would have to be the A**holes that run the crap out of their horses on the trails with out respect to other trail riders. one time i was riding down the trail when two morons came round the corner a good 1/4 mile down the trail. they came at a full gallop and showed no intention of slowing. i waved at them to signal them to slow down, but no response. my horse usually is pretty calm, but i could not fault her for spooking at two horses pounding hooves towards her. so i stood there and prepared for the spook, and sure enough they came blazing past me like two giant asshats. luckily my horse just got a little excited and threw her head but didn't spook.

i run across morons like this weekly, it really don't understand how other ride

  • Your opinions about hill work?

just curious.... i hear alot of different opinions about working your horse on a hill. i've always believed that you should make your horse walk up a hill if you want to build their shoulders and foreleg, and walk down hill if you want them to build their hind end.

    what are your opinions?

  • English saddle for my Quarter Horse?

so I'm just playing around with the idea of getting an english saddle for me QH mare. she's a typical wide shouldered low winthered QH. does anyone have a particular brand they liked for their QH? her western saddle has full quarter bars so would the english saddle need a wide tree? it's been a while since i've ridden english and i forget all these things.

  • Why is the horse industry in a slump?

ok so i know there was/is a massive hay shortage in the southeast and our economy is in a decline which makes anyhing other than keeping a roof over your head and food on the table frivolous. but in CA i haven't really noticed alot of horses for sale or cheaply for sale. so is the horse industry slump more of a regional thing? what are your thoughts?
