13 AnswersBaseball10 years agoQuestions about leasing?
So the other day I was looking at horses for part-board/lease and I put up a 'wanted' ad. A person replied and she had a 16 year old 16.1 hand Shire x gelding for lease. He's been show in the Preliminary level and can jump 3 ft + with ease.
His location is about 35 minutes from where I live, which is a full 15 minutes closer than the barn I'm riding at right now. So I've got the stuff sorted out, but what I'm wondering is:
1. At 16 years old, do the horse's joints get worse? I'm planning on doing a LOT of jumping, can his joints take it? I've never seen him in person but she sent over a few pictures and he looked like a perfectly healthy, happy boy. I don't plan on going that high, and I'm only going to ride him for like 1 hour, maybe a little longer + hacking, once a week, four times a month, but will jumping hurt his joints?
2. The owner wants $100 for one ride a week, four rides a month. I think that's fair, however that does not include the use of a trainer and the facility he is at now has no indoor arena, so I cannot ride on rainy days. Do you think it's reasonable? If not, what do you think is a reasonable price?
3. If he hurts himself when I'm riding him, is it my fault? Can the owner sue me?
Thanks for any answers, in advance. :)
3 AnswersHorses10 years agoGOOD barns or horse for lease/PB within 50 minutes drive of Toronto, Ontario, Canada?
Harro thar.
To be honest, I'm not happy with my current barn. You hardly learn anything, the lesson rates are expensive and the instructors favour rich, spoiled kids.
So my question is, does anyone know any good riding barns within 50 minutes drive of Toronto, Ontario, Canada? A link to their website would be much appreciated!
Also, does anyone have/know a horse for lease/PB within the driving range? A link would be appreciated :P
And please, do NOT answer with www.google.ca! Don't waste your time and don't waste mine either.
2 AnswersHorses10 years agoAm I overweight & what's the fastest way to lose weight?
I'm 13 years old, 5 ft 1 and a half inches tall and I weigh 107 lbs...am I overweight?
Also, what's the fastest way to lose weight? And don't tell me exercise please, because I am EXTREMELY active (at least 3 hours of exercise per day) and I actually think most of my weight is muscle. However, it'd be nice if I could shed a couple of pounds >_>
What foods are the best for weight loss? And in your opinion what's the best and fastest way to lose weight?
Answers are appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
17 AnswersDiet & Fitness10 years agoSitting trot/trot pole help please?
I ride with boots, half chaps, and johdpurs. I post to the trot just fine, but the sitting trot is extremely hard for me, I cannot keep in contact with the saddle all the time because it's really bumpy and I'm like, bumping in the saddle. Sometimes when I'm doing a sitting trot my legs will instinctively post and I'm scolded for posting when it's supposed to be a sitting trot.
I can canter and jump pretty high so I'm not a beginner--I just need help with my sitting trot -_- going into canter from sitting trot isn't hard, it's just when I'm doing a sitting trot, I almost feel like I'm going to fall off because it's so bumpy. And I've ridden quite a few horses so it's not the horse's problem.
Is there ANY way to ease the bumpiness? Field boots or something? I DO ride with half chaps, and it's much easier like that but sitting trot is still bumpy for me.
-----------------------------------------------------
Take a look at this as well please: my horse likes to jump over the trot poles. We were doing some flatwork and it included trotting over poles, and we were approaching them at a medium trot (not fast) and she looks at the poles, gathers her hindquarters beneath her and leaps over all the poles at once. She also has this problem with the take-off poles placed where the horse should take off, she makes a small jump over the pole and jumps the jump! It's really annoying sometimes...
-----------------------------------------------------------
So, my two questions are:
1. how can I make the sitting trot less uncomfortable (less bumpy) for me? is it normal to feel that way when doing a sitting trot?
2. how can I teach my horse to not jump the trot poles?
thanks for any answers, in advance :)
8 AnswersHorses10 years agodo you think it was my fault?
ok, so I asked a question about my cantering--I asked if people could give me some tips on my canter seat and my form. I said constructive crit would be appreciated.
a person commented saying why I was so egotistical and why I wanted an ego-boost and told me my canter looked like a walk.
do you think that my question seemed like I wanted an ego boost? it certainly was not meant to be!
===========================
ALSO, what do you guys think of fennec fox? she gave me a whole lot of crap about my riding and my horse, saying I looked forced and mechanical and said just because I could jump didn't mean I was an expert. I never said I was an expert, I just said I wasn't a beginner.
=======================
basically, my question is, do you think my question about the canter seemed like I was egotistical? and what do you guys think of fennec fox?
13 AnswersHorses10 years agoJudge me and my horse's canter please?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/65364586@N06/59501104...
No, I am not a beginner...I can jump almost 4 feet. However, my instructor said I could improve my seat while cantering. So I'm asking you to judgee my canter form please? And my horse's form as well? ^_^
Also, not to be rude or anything, but I want advice from experienced riders, not 10 year olds that's ridden a few ponies for half a year. Again, please don't take this offensively, but I'm looking for accurate/helpful advice and constructive criticism.
Any tips/advice/compliments/criticisms are appreciated! :)
Also, guess my horse's age? ;D
5 AnswersHorses10 years agois 18 year old too old for jumping 4 ft?
my 18 year old Belgian Warmblood mare is perfectly healthy, even her teeth. she loves jumping, but recently when she keeps on throwing her head down and trying to avoid the bit when being ridden and jumped, as if she is in pain. yes, the saddle was custom made to fit her, and i've had her for 7 years and she's never done this before. i love her to death and she's made such an amazing hunter/jumper and i've jumped her 4 feet before and she still loves jumping 4 feet now, but i'm afraid that that will hurt her. she's even thrown me a little buck when she landed a 3 ft 6 a week ago, and she's NEVER bucked in her life. not that i've never sat a buck before, but i'm really worried.
so basically, the question is, is she too old to jump 4 ft? she loves jumping but i'm afraid it will hurt her, and thats the least i want to do. i love her to death!
7 AnswersHorses10 years agoWhat horse is right for me?
I'm 5 ft 1 1/2 inches tall, almost 5 ft 2. Should I get a horse that's around 15hh? Also, if I want to do some jumping (I can jump 3ft) what breed should I get? Or should it be a crossbreed? I'm not all that into dressage but I have to do flatwork and I've entered a few shows with school horses and plan to do that with my horse. What breed + size should I get?
