It's been a long time since I changed this... I was 15 - I'm now 18. I didn't really come on here a lot in between then and now, but ah well, c'est la vie. I suppose that's good - it means I've not had anything too drastic happen to me that I didn't know how to cope with. I don't know why I came back on, but here I am. I'll probably stick around. Email me if you want - I'm always happy to help, and people say I give good advice. Of course, that's why you're on here in the first place, I'm sure, so you don't really need ANOTHER person giving advice, but just in case, you know... or even if you want to talk, I can be a friendly, somewhat anonymous, ear.

  • To people who survived a breakup and found happiness, how did you do it?

My best friend just lost her boyfriend of a year and she's completely crushed. She doesn't want to eat or drink or sleep or even be alive. She doesn't see how it is possible for her to ever be happy again without the dream life they promised each other in the future. She's even beyond asking for help, but she does have lots of friends who are doing their best to support her anyway. I think it would help her to hear stories from other people who went through the same thing as she did. We're all around about 20. No one we know has been through what she's going through; our relationships have all either been not that serious or haven't had a chance to end yet. Please tell me your stories... The more detail the better. How you felt about the other person, how you felt when it ended, how long it took to heal, what helped you heal... Thank you so much!

  • I mean to write a story in which the father character is a UK police constable. Some details escape me. Help?

In a small English village, what precisely would the duties of a police constable be (assuming the village still HAD a police station, of course)?

Would there only be one policeman working in the station, or would there be more?

Do policemen change into their uniforms at home, or at the station itself?

How would the policeman in said small village report in for work? Would he have to phone in, or just fill out a time sheet, or what? Also, about what time would that be likely to be?

Would the police constable largely remain inside the station for most of the day, or would he walk around the village green and make his presence known?

I have tried to search the internet for the answers to my questions already, but I haven't had much luck. Answers to any of them would be very helpful, as would any additional information I have not had the foresight to realise I will need. Thank you.

  • My bf was hired, but never assigned hours... Is this legal?

OK, so since this is a legal question, I should start off by saying that we live in Minnesota, in the US. My boyfriend was hired by Cub Food's for a part-time job, and went through the training, which he was paid for. His new manager said he would phone when he had arranged the hours, but the call never came. My boyfriend phoned several times until the manager was on-duty, at which point the manager claimed to have lost his phone number, and thus not scheduled him to work. He apologised and said that he would assign him hours starting in 3 weeks, and call next week to let my boyfriend know when those hours would be. The call didn't come on the day it was supposed to, so my boyfriend called back the next day. Again, a date was assigned for the manager to phone my boyfriend, and again the call didn't come. My boyfriend then tried phoning numerous other people within the company in an effort to get assigned hours, but nothing ever came of it. Eventually, he simply gave up trying. He has not been sacked, and he still receives an employee discount, so I suppose he is still technically considered an employee, even though it has now been months since he was given the job, and he has never worked beyond his 3 training days, which took place at a different Cub to the one in which he was supposed to work. This has caused so much stress and worry that I HAVE to wonder if the way they treated him was legal, and if not, what we can do about it. It's certainly very strange... I wasn't having much luck looking things up on my own, so I've come to you in the hope that you know something. Can you help?

  • In your opinion, was this cheating?

OK, so I started to have feelings for my current bf when I was going still out with my ex. There were certain situations that meant that I had to delay a few weeks longer in breaking up with my ex than I'd have liked... Anyway, my now-bf and I never did so much as hug, but we did talk a lot and about a LOT of things... We discussed our emotions very openly with each other, and I even went so far as to tell him that the "relationship" I had with my then-bf was not a relationship at all, and that my real relationship was with my now-bf. I told my now-bf a lot of things about me that I'd never have dreamed of telling anyone else, including some things about my ideas on sex (I was a virgin... idk why that seems important to mention, it just does.) I was careful not to let it stray into me deliberately saying things for the sole purpose of turning him on, but I discussed the details honestly, and he's a guy, so of COURSE he found it erotic. I'm not sure why the conversation went that way.. I think it's safe to say I was flirting, and possibly showing off. I wouldn't define it as sexting, we were just being open about what we wanted and what we one day wanted to try... it's complicated. The final major thing that happened before I broke up with my ex was that my now-bf told me he loved me, and I said it back... I felt really dreadful about the whole thing, to be honest, and I FELT like I was cheating, but I didn't really know on whom. My ex doesn't feel badly towards me about it, for which I am incredibly grateful. My ex and I have become quite good friends and I'd even say we're closer now than we ever were while we were going out. I even give him relationship advice when he needs it... I just can't help but wonder if what I did could be defined as cheating somehow. I know it's not in the most technical sense of the word, but as I've said, I FELT like it was. Anyway, I've probably rambled on enough about this. Sorry to talk your ears- eyes off. Just tell me what you think.

  • Do you know any French songs that could be sung by a female voice?

There's a competition thing I got entered into for my French class, and one of the options is to sing a song, so I really want to do that. I have a really good range, and it's informal, so I can change the key to whatever I want, and don't need sheet music. I do need, however, to have an example to listen to, and it must be sung either a capella, or the accompaniment must be easy to find and free. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be REALLY grateful.

  • What's the name of that film where an author writes a character in her book to die, but the guy's real?

want to see this film, but can NOT remember the title. I'm sure it's a newish film, and I know the main character guy tries to stop the author from writing his death, but no one believes him. I can't remember more... i saw a commercial, and that's all I know.

  • There's a film I heard about, I'd guess it's a bit old, but not ancient, and I forgot the name. Help?

I was chatting with some people I'd just met, and we talked about this film, but now I've got no way to remember the title, or ask them about it. According to the people I was talking to, It takes place right after WWII, and is a sad story. I'm pretty sure the title contains something about reading, and very maybe the word "last." One of the people said that the main actress won some kind of award for her role in it, if that's any help. I'm guessing that it's not new, because then I'd have heard of it before then, and when we started talking about it, one of the people said, "Oh, yeah, I remember that movie." But I'd guess that it's not ancient, because if it was popular enough to be remembered, from that long ago, my step-dad would've known what it was, when I asked him. Can anyone think of what the name might be? Thank you so much.

  • What unusual things can I use to kill bacteria for a science project?

We're supposed to bring in something to kill bacteria for biology, but I'd like it to be original. Any ideas? I have to be able to get it at home, though. Thanks. :)

  • I'm feeling a bit swamped, can you help please? You can at least take a look can't you?

I have to make a poster on how a bill becomes a law for civics, but all I can find on the internet are long complicated flow charts with either too much or too little information. I just need a concise, step-by-step explanation of how it works, preferably in a numbered list, so I can actually make sense of it all. Thank you.

  • I'm really worried about my friend. Is there anything I can do?

This is my first year at a new high school, and I've been making a load of new friends, but one of my friends has trouble at home and feels unwanted. she always wears black and has her hair cut short, and dyed black, and she wears a lot of bandannas. I know she cuts herself, but not badly or often. The cutting isn't the biggest issue though, because I can understand it, even if I can't comprehend it, and I don't think she's about to do herself serious harm. I'm just trying to give you a bit of idea about her character. Then, just today, she told me she hasn't been able to sleep at all in almost two weeks. I know this is bad because I learned a bit about sleep and stuff and there was a test done where rats were deprived of sleep for a few weeks and they all died of no apparent cause. Her mum's been trying to get her to take sleeping pills, but either she doesn't want them or they don't work(she wasn't too clear on that bit) I've known her for nearly 3 months, and we seem to get along really well, so I'd be as upset as someone who'd known her for far longer if anything happened to her. We don't get much time to talk alone, and I don't want to start advising her at the lunch table in front of everyone. Is there anything I can do? Please help.

  • Maybe this section will get me more answers to my question?

In your opinion, is it easier to ask a good friend out, or a passing acquaintance?

Say you have this huge crush on someone and you really want to ask them out. Would you find this easier if you knew this person really well, or if he/she was someone you didn't know personally, but thought was really good looking? Why do you feel that way, and would you choose a different way to ask a friend out than just an acquaintance? Why?

  • I can't think of the right word. ideas please?

I'm writing an essay on Frederick Douglass for English, but I can't find the right word to go in the blank I've left. I know the word I want, I just can't quite get it, you know what I mean? I've put that bit of my essay below. Thanks in advance :)

He also describes the trip to Baltimore “as the first plain manifestation of that kind of providence which has ever since attended [him], and marked [his] life with so many favors.” This concealed hint allows the reader to infer that God was on his side – and, by ______________ the side of all slaves – all along; a useful thing when trying to persuade a largely Christian country that your point of view is in the right.
