Help me edit a scholarship essay?
I need to write an essay of 300-500 words describing what it means to be a "good citizen" and how I have consistently demonstrated the characteristics of a "good citizen" during my high school career.
Here is my entry: (337 words)
Here is the paramount question when contemplating one’s level of “good citizenship:” have I actively participated in and positively impacted my community? Have I reached out to others and shared with them my efforts and time? I like to think that I can answer in the affirmative to these set of questions. Since my elementary school years, I have been a member of Girl Scouts; my troop and I have donated to animal shelters and volunteered at nursing homes. More recently, I have expanded my community service efforts by joining band, chorus, and a cappella, all three of which put on free performances for the town on holidays such as Memorial and Veteran’s Day. As music is my passion, I choose to impact my community largely through song. Perhaps the community service that makes me feel most like a “good citizen” my internship at the ---- in town. After volunteering at --- last year, I was eager to continue teaching music to young children. Luckily, I found a position that allows me to help teach ages seven to ten in their chorus and music classes. I have also had a hand in their junior production of The Music Man, an experience as fun as it is redeeming. This is where I truly feel like I am impacting the entire community. Seeing the happiness, confidence, and determination that music can coax from these students is surreal. Music can turn a shy new student into a soloist, proud and excited to perform. To fully educate a child, music must be taught - and I am truly privileged to be a part of this. A good citizen will throw their full effort into perfecting their community and making it a wonderful place to live and learn. However, one must realize that this is a daunting and enormous task. I still volunteer with Girl Scouts several times a year, but I do believe I have found my niche. I will improve my community through music.
I feel like this is horribly trite and by far the worst thing I have ever written ever. :( Please help! I am welcome to all suggestions and the harshest of criticisms! Thank you!
1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoHow to get a tax return form when I efiled?
Hi! I did my 2010 tax return on Turbo Tax online - so I efiled. About a month ago, I received my tax return via direct deposit, so throughout this whole process, I have had no paper.
Besides my W2 form, I have no paper. But I'm applying for financial aid for Emerson College who insist they need a copy of MY (the student)'s tax return form for 2010. My parents and I are really confused-- how can I send it when I don't have it?

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoDo I have to self report scores on the common app?
Due to some mix up with my SAT, I still haven't received my scores for my October test date. (Side note: I hate college board SO.MUCH. Why are my test scores SO LATE!?!? They won't even tell me why!!!)
I digress: I'm completely done with the Common App and SICK of waiting around for my scores... could I just submit the app with the dates of my SATs filled out but leave the scores blank? (October was the first time I took the SATs.) Since most colleges don't even trust self reporting, could I get away with leaving it blank and sending in an official score report when my scores come out?
I would make note of this in my "additonal info" section, but I've already attached a resume that I would like to keep there.
Advice please&thank you!! :)
Or...you know, if you work for College Board... could I maybe have my scores? Why are you holding them hostage?!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoWould anyone care to help me edit this essay?
Hello!
I'm writing my college admissions essay... and I've realized that I really need an editor! My friends are too busy with their own applications, my parents wouldn't know where to start---my english teacher scares me to death, etc.
So I'm kind of begging for help here!
The essay is at 300ish words right now and will not be longer than 900. If anyone even wants to help me out with a quick read-over, I'd be forever in your debt!
Anyone interested? I don't REALLY want to just post it online, so emails would be lovely. :)

Copied and pasted below: (It's only a tiny bit... I'm already impatient for critique! Haha!!) BE HARSH. XD The novel is regency era romance. :)
CHAPTER ONE
“There is not in the wide world a valley so sweet, as the vale in whose bosom the bri--” Emily Weston cringed immediately.
Her eyes flickered down to the smooth keys of the family pianoforte, where her fingers remained positioned in a chord that was shockingly ugly. Emily consulted the sheet music that was resting on the music rack, searching for her mistake. “Ah!” she scolded herself, “E-flat, Emily! Remember the key change..” She cleared her throat and began where she had left off, singing, “...in whose bosom the bright-- Argh!”
Frustrated, Emily banged the keys in defeat and slumped on the piano stool. She had been practicing all day, trapped in the parlor which had become increasingly stuffy since morning. This new book of music had arrived from London the night previous, specially ordered by her Papa. With her social calendar cleared for the day, Emily had sat down, resolving to practical diligently until she was called for supper. The idea had seemed prudent at the time; four hours later, it was quite foolish and had left her bored and antsy.
“Dear God!” said a young voice at the door. Emily snapped her head around to see her little brother George bounding into the room. He laughed, “Emily, that sounded awful!” And, acting as a true younger brother, he dashed beside her to the pianoforte and proceeded to pound on the keys, wailing a horrific rendition of the music Emily had just been playing.
“George!” she scolded, playfully swatting him away from the keys.

I'm looking for some more information about tutors during the Regency Era. What was their salary? Was it common for them to live-in with a family?
I've been google-ing, but most information is about governesses. I'm looking more for information about a male tutor, teaching a younger boy before he goes off to a formal school.

Ils se sont entendu bien.
