  • Preparing for skating competition?

Does anyone have any tips to make a solo more presentable to the judges (eg. keep head up, arms up)? I just want my solo to look good! Thanks!

  • Skating Camp packing list help?

I am going to a figure skating sleepover camp in the summer, and I need help creating a packing list with what I need to bring. There will be skating (of course), as well as off ice classes like fitness, yoga, stretch, and zumba. The items on the list I was given are: water bottle, skates, supplies for testing/competition, ballet slippers, sweater or jacket, umbrella, swimsuit, tennis racket, towels, organizer, clock, hangers. What else do I need?

Please help me compile a clothing list, and an other stuff list. I will be provided with bedding, so I do not need to bring it.

  • When did you land your first axel? what were the circumstances?

I'm asking because I landed my first axel today and it is legitimately the best day ever! I was frustrated, and then I was doing walk through axels with someone that isn't my coach, and i went and did an axel.. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaaaKKac12U&feature...

  • How to make a solo unique?

I'm choreographing my own skating solo, and I know how to put in all of the jumps and spins and stuff, but do you know how I can make it unique (special movements that you know) or anything that I could put in to make a good impression on the judges?

  • Musical Interpretation Competition Tips?

In May, I'm going to a competition where one of my events is musical interpretation. So basically this is where I go on the ice and hear a random piece of music twice, and get off the ice and interpret it. Everyone skates to the same piece of music and who ever skates to it best wins.

What are some tricks for me to do well at a competition like this? Are there certain elements that I should do? Should I plan something out before I go, or just make it up when I hear the music?

    Thank you!

  • I have a skates question?

One of the coaches at my club told me that I should be buying new skates every season because they break down, but this seems awfully expensive! My skates feel fine, and it never occurred to me that they weren't supporting my feet. Is this true?

  • Is it more difficult to compete at a rink without boards?

I'm used to competing at rinks that have boards, and this might sound really stupid: I think that I might fall over the end of the rink.

  • High school options for figure skating?

I started figure skating last January. I love it so much, it makes me so happy when I do it and time flies. I am currently skating for an average of 18 hours a week, every day after school. I am going into high school next year and my parents gave me the option to go to a special school where it is half day figure skating half day school. Then I would do homework and possibly skate after school.

I might just do this for a year to try it. I am a good student, and we only live once, so why not do what I love? I'm asking for your opinions because I don't know if I am right in doing this or if I will regret it in the future.

    Help please!

  • Figure skaters: How many hours a week do you skate and what's your schedule?

I skate for 15-20 hours a week, 2-4 hours a day. I get really upset when my parents say that I cannot skate on some days, and I don't even know why this bothers me so much. I guess I feel like I'm loosing hours. What are your schedules?

Also, how many competitions do you do a year?

  • Am I good at Figure Skating?

I've been skating since January (I took June, July, August, and half of September off). Since September, I've been skating everyday for 2-5 hours a day. I am 13 years old.

    For jumps:

    Waltz Jump

    Salchow

    Toe loop

    loop

    flip

    lutz

and all combinations of those jumps.

I'm working on my axel, I end up getting around 1 rotation or 1 and 1/4 rotations without my feet being crossed.

    Spins:

    one foot spin

    camel spin

    sit spin

    back spin

    camel-sit spin

    pancake spin

I'm working on back sit and layback

I am doing about 4 competitions this year at the Intro B level (Skate Canada), and I passed Dutch waltz and Canasta tango.

Additional: my spiral sucks, I can do a spread eagle, I can do a stag jump and a falling leaf.
