  • Will enabling disk compression on a backup drive cause problems?

    Hey guys,

I have searched for information regarding compressing a backup drive. I understand the disadvantages of performance/speed when/if I have to perform a system restore. But the information I tend to find is fairly vague and outdated. So, does not apply to my situation.

My current disc configuration is as follows:

[C:\|G:\|]120GB SSD SATAIII (OS & Common)

    ---------------------------------------------------

    [B:\|M:\|L:\] 1TB HDD SATAIII

    [B:\] is backup of [C:\|G:\]

[M:\] Is my Media drive/Everything else

[L:\] Is currently empty for future use.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    [D:\] 160GB SATAII

    Used to backup [M:\|C:\|G:\]

    ---------------------------------------------------

The last time I backed up my [M:\|C:\|G:\] I had just barely enough room to fit on my [D:\].

Well, now I have essentially doubled my used space on [M:\] so now a backup/image of [M:\|C:\|G:\] will not fit. Will compressing this drive gain me the space needed? Cause problems? Or is another hdd in the works?

I have a functioning laptop that hardly gets any use. Its a Gateway NV55c with a 320GB WD Scorpio Blue and I could use that and create a spanned dynamic disc using this and the 160GB hdd, but then I dont have a laptop. So, I dont really want to go this route. But, then again I usually swap out my SSD into my laptop if I do use it on the road... Like I said, dont really want to go that route though.

  • Will I benefit from a dedicated Physx card?

Just upgraded my EVGA GTX 650Ti with a GTX 760 SC. Both are 2GB.

Just for S&G, I moved the 650 down and dedicated it to Physx.

When I run benchmarking, I see no real performance boost, but I also dont see any real drawbacks either. FPS and score in 3DMark is about the same. +-20marks

The difference comes in Fluidmark. Running just the 760, my fps sits around 58fps. When I throw the 650 in, it drops to 48fps.

Now, when I turn on multithread physx with ASync on:

    Just the 760, gets ~75fps.

With the 650 on physx, gets ~240fps.

    My question is:

Should I just sell the 650Ti or keep it? (I admit it looks awesome. But aesthetics dont really count.)

Will I see any real performance in gaming?

Am I even benchmarking these cards properly?

  • Which upgrade to get?

Thinking about dropping $250 on an upgrade to my computer.

    Currently running a good build:

    i5-3570k on a Z77 board.

    8Gb ram

    120gb SSD

    1TB HDD

    GTX 650Ti 2Gb GPU.

    Thinking either an i7-3770k, 2xGTX 660's or a single GTX770.

    Any thoughts?

  • HDD lags after bios update?

ASRock Z77 mobo was on p2.5. Flashed to p2.9 and ever since HDD has been lagging when launching programs from start menu. SSD is boot drive, computer boots fine. Games and media on HDD. When launching anything on HDD from explorer, takes no time at all. Just launching from start menu lags. Is it reindexing since bios flash?

  • Should I add a 2nd SSD and RAID0?

I have an OCZ 120GB Agility 3 w/ Sandforce 2281. Was thinking about picking up another one and setting my system up for RAID 0 with a clean Win7 install for performance boost.

Would it be worth the extra $80 for the SSD to to this?

Should I opt out and buy a single newer/faster performing SSD like the Vertex 4 or the Vector 4 w/Indulix?

  • HDD Problem, Lagging and working hard.?

I have a 1TB Western Digital Black Caviar SATA 3 6Gb/s that is acting weird. I use it as a media/backup drive and I have my OS on a separate SSD. A couple weeks ago when I tried to view pictures on the media drive, it took forever to load anything and was constantly working, the HDD LED was solid for 10 min. I thought it was going to fail, so I backed up the drive to an external HD when possible and restarted the computer, now it was working fine.

Well, since then it does the same thing but not as bad. It will take a minute sometimes to load files, but then it runs fine. Sometimes it will lag hard, then will just, "snap to," and poof everything is there and the drive is fast... So, Bad drive???

  • How much should I sell my computer for?

I have a custom desktop I built back in March. Would like to know what others think its worth. Ive been kicking back and fourth the idea of selling it, as Im strapped on cash and its just too much machine for what I need. If its a fair price I may consider selling it and just build a computer better suited for my tasks. Its a gaming setup and in my opinion is a beast for what it is.

    i5-3570k 3.4ghz w/turbo - Overclocked @4.4ghz

    ASRock Extreme4 MoBo

    Corsair Vengeance 8gb 1600mhz RAM

    WD Black Caviar 1TB HDD

    OCZ Agility3 Sata3 120gb SSD

EVGA GTX 650 Ti 2gb Graphic Card

Tenda Wireless Wireless N Network Card

    ThermalTake 650watt PSU

    ThermalTake MSi-Snow Edition case

    All-In-One Card Reader

    LG DVD/RW Disc Drive

    6x120mm Case Fans (2 w/blue led)

    Cooler Master 212EVO CPU Cooler

    Windows 7 Home Premium

    Dell 24" Monitor

    Samsung 20" Monitor

    CA 2.1 Stereo

Thats about it. I have ~$1300 invested. Kinda worried about the new Haswell processors replacing Ivy Bridge and driving prices down for this kind of system. With that in mind, I was think ~$800.
