My name is Amber Marie and I am a licensed cosmetologist. Coloring and men's cutting are my strongest points and have studied trichology extensively. I am an undergraduate History and Geography student studying Medieval and Early Modern History in Northern (as in Scandinavia and the Baltics) and Eastern Europe, as well as Russia. I also study German, Russian. Upon finishing my History degree I am heading to Bamberg, Germany for a year before heading off to graduate school for Human Geography, possible Russian Studies first. I have always done my own Financial Aid and have a good understanding of the system, especially with the FAFSA. You are welcome to contact me, I am happy to help!

  • Recommendations for a House Plant?

I would really like to have a small plant in my room. The problem with this is that I get really good, bright sunlight for a bit in the morning, then my room is shaded for the rest of the day. Are there any plants that can live in these conditions? Flowering plants would be nice, but I want a plant very badly and will certainly take a leafy one! Thank you in advance!

  • Time for the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang?

Hello! I have a question about studying in Germany. I would really like to do my graduate schooling in Germany, if not my Masters my Ph. D. I will be studying there for a year (mostly German language courses), after I have had two years of German and would like to take test this before I return home. Can someone tell me about the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang? I have read some about it, but have come across nothing indicating the level of German that is do well in this test. Based on what I have read about the written part it sounds like something that I would be fine with after taking all of the courses that I will in the Winter semester, in fact I have a class specifically for each of them. But I could always be wrong, is this something that you have to speak German for 7 years or something to do well in after my experience with German?

  • Finding a good bank in London?

Hello. I will be traveling to London in the Fall for a week for school. In 2013 I will start my graduate studies in Medieval History somewhere in the United Kingdom, either in England or Scotland. While I travel to London I would like to open up a bank account there and deposit some funds there so I can pay fees, etc out of that instead of having to send money orders over in the mail. So first of all could you suggest any good banks in the city, I am not sure if you have regional branches like we do in America, but if so preferably one that also has a branch in York and Aberdeen or Edinburgh. Also, in London what are the required documents to open up an account. Here it is just a photo id, but I assume that international clients will be required to have something else as well. Thank you in advance!

  • Masters Programs in Europe?

Hello. Does anyone know of solid Masters in Geography, preferably Human in Europe taught in either English or German? Geography has faded from the educational system in America, sadly. I am looking to do a MPhil or a Msc by Research, so research degrees. My main research focus is the impact that Geography has on History and the development of landscapes and civilization. Thank you kindly.

  • Cost of food in Germany for four months?

Il will be attending the Otto-Friedrich Universitaet in Bamberg from April to July. I pay the school for housing and tuition, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much food will cost on average for four months. I will be eating in the school's cafeteria. Also, what are the average costs of a meal in some Southern German restaurants?

  • Full time enrollment split between schools?

I know that you can only receive financial aid for one school but will I be able to qualify if it is split between schools? For example I will take 15 credit hours a semester, and 6 in the summer. I am taking 12 at my University and 3 in an online gen ed from a community college that I have been attending before the University. But would it be possible to take 9 hours from the University, to which I would receive a Pell grant and take 6 credit hours from the community college which I would pay for out-of-pocket. Would I be able to do this?

  • What to include in a scholarship essay?

I am writing on why I deserve the scholarship. This is the general Arts and Sciences Scholarship as well as for the History scholarship (my major) so I would like to include that. I am a transfer student and will be a Junior. I am concentration in Medieval as well as Latin and German.

Should I also include thing about my personal life? I was set back a few years due to seizures and illness, but I am not sure if I should include that or if it should be strictly academic. I am about the least egotistical person in the world and am having trouble with this.

Should I include information about my future goals and graduate school as well? Thank you kindly for your help!

  • Graduate School at the University of Aberdeen?

Does anyone know any firsthand information about it? I am looking to go for my MLitt in Scandinavian Studies. It is a pretty obscure program so I don't expect anyone here to know much about it! But anything about the school in general. How are graduate admissions? Most people say average, but what does that mean for Scottish Universities? How is the graduate student housing? Any first hand information about the History department? How is the research there? Is international student funding difficult to obtain? I know that a lot of Universities in the UK are or are in danger of loosing their international student funding, but I haven't heard about Aberdeen. Thank you kindly!

  • Tier 1 Expiration Date?

Is there a certain amount of time that you can be under the Tier 1 Visa before having to find a sponsor. I suppose that I would be working somewhere anyway. If I get hired will they always sponsor me? Also, after graduating with my PhD (from Nottingham) if I stay there and do research with the school (Center for Viking Studies) will I keep my student Visa, apply for Tier 1, or will they sponsor me? I know this probably won't go over well, British people seem to hate everyone that wants to go there, but all major Universities offer American studies and Vikings never settled in the middle of America, so we don't study them here!

  • How can I stay in Europe permanently after graduation?

How can I stay in a country after I graduate with my PHD? I am American and going to get my degree in Norse and Viking Studies. Since we never had Vikings in Missouri and all of the research is being done in the UK and Scandinavia (and so on) how can I stay there to continue in research... longer than the two years allowed to graduates. Since this is my career field I was thinking more long term.

  • How do I get photos onto a CD?

I have pictures that I need to put onto a CD for art school applications but I don't know how to move them there like I used to. I put in a blank CD but the D drive prompt says to insert a CD(even though I have one in that just isn't reading). 1) How do I move imaged to the D drive to be put onto a CD? 2) What kind of CD do I need? This one was a blank one specifically for burning music but it won't read at all. Thanks!
