How can my mom receive my deceased dad's social security?
My dad recently died after a 2 year long fight with cancer and other illnesses. My mom works full time, and so did my dad, untill he got sick. He was on half pay, half disability when he died. My mom went to the social security office yesterday to see how she goes about collecting his SS. They told her that in order to collect his social security, she had to be 60 (she's 59) AND she couldnt make over 14K a year.
I know about the age thing, but I have never heard anyone say anything about what you make. Forgive me for venting a little, but I think its absolutely ridiculous that my dad paid into SS his whole life to make sure my mom was helped out if/when he died, and now she's being denied because she makes too much...So if she doesnt ever get it, where the hell does it go????
10 AnswersUnited States9 years agoMy lab has extra toes....?
My black lab has two extra toes on all of her feet...we got her from a breeder when she was about 2 months, and the breeder didnt have her dew claws removed. We also noticed that along with her dew claws, she has another toe on each foot. Our vet said that when we have her spayed, they can also remove the dew claws and extra toes.
I just want some feedback on this. Has anyone else had to do this? I know, if not removed, these dew claws can hurt her in the long run, and Im assuming these "extra toes" can as well, because they also have nails. Im just worried about the pain this might cause her. Will she be able to walk? Or will this procedure cause her feet to be in alot of pain? Thanks for any help.
7 AnswersDogs9 years agoIf my husband wants to legally adopt my son, does my son's biological father still have to pay child support?
My son's biological father pays monthly child support, but rarely see's him due to working out of town alot. My husband wants to legally adopt him as his own, and I'm wondering if the father still has to pay child support (or back child support, because he still owes that, although he is current with the monthly child support). Thanks for the help
6 AnswersMarriage & Divorce9 years agoCan I change my court-ordered healthcare to a different insurance company?
My work's insurance is free for me, but costs me $300 a month to pay for my son (who Im also paying another $300 child support for). I have no problem paying for his healthcare, but I do have the option to put him on my wife's work's health insurance plan, which would cost us $70 instead of $300.
My work wont just cancel the insurance, because it was a court order. They have to have written consent to stop garnishing the monthly premium. The Child Support office is of absolutely no help, and the lady on the phone actually told me I was wasting her time, which was rude. Is there a form or a motion I can file with the courts to show that this is actually better healthcare for him and to request to change it?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoCHILD SUPPORT LEVY WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE?
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Bakersfield, CA
My fiancee has a son with a prior girlfriend. He pays child support, back child support, and health insurance for this child--Its automatically taken out of his checks every month.
That being said, I looked on our bank account, and saw a debit transaction for $100, with the description "LEGAL ORDER FEE, LTS" and was told by my bank that it was a Levy order from the Franchise Tax Board for back child support. She also asked if we had received any notice of this, and I said no, because we have received nothing.
So, I have a few questions: 1) Is it even LEGAL to apply a levy when no notice was even received? 2) How is it possible for them to take money from us, when were paying it on time every month? and finally 3)Is it possible that the ex-girlfriend is behind this? Because if it is, it really sounds like something she would do.
Thanks for all your help in advance....

4 AnswersLas Vegas1 decade agoCan my boyfriend also get Earned Income Credit?
(federal) I got the earned income credit on my taxes this year, because I claimed my son as a dependent. Since my boyfriend and I file separatly, can he ge the EIC also? I heard you can, because you just have to say the child lived with you at least half the year. (We live together). he isnt claiming our son as his dependent, because I did, and only one parent can claim the child if youre not married.

1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWhat is the best way to break my one year lease?
My boyfriend and I signed a year lease with the apartment complex we live in. Just recently we had a baby, and seriously cannot afford the rent and all the utilities that go with it. I also just got a paycut at my job. I want to break our lease at 6 months. Im willing to give them a 60 day notice. The only problem is that our lease states that if we vacate early, we are responsible for the rent until they find a new tenant. But i still really want to move because we cant afford it. ALSO when we requested an application, it stated on the application that we had to make THREE times the amount of the rent to qualify, but we no longer do. Is this a good argument just in case they decide to get ugly about this?
