  • Wedding Planning at a Stand-Still...help?

I'm in grad school, so I'm VERY busy. I have 15 months to plan my wedding, but I won't really be able to actually plan it for most of that time due to my course load at college.

I would like for my dad to give me a number as to how much he is willing to pay for the wedding. He offered to pay for all of it originally, but he keeps telling me that we should go a non-traditional route and have me pay half, or have my fiance's parents pay half...which would be fine, but 1) I'm poor. I'm surviving on 80k of loans and 2) my fiance's family doesn't have a lot of money. I'm not wanting anything extravagant, but my dad booked an $8000 reception venue. If he's the one not paying for the wedding, nobody can afford that. But then he says he's paying for it. Then he says the fiance and I should pay for it, back and forth, back and forth.

Every time I ask him for a ballpark budget number, he says don't worry about it, my wedding is 15 months away. I should chill out. But I feel like I don't have that long, especially since I can't plan anything given the fact that I don't have any basis on how much can go into each category.

Background info: He is a rather manipulative, controlling person. I've never been the assertive type. He doesn't get along with my fiance's family because of how he treats my family (controlling, emotionally abusive to my mom, etc).

So I guess I need advice. Am I overreacting? Is he being wishywashy and playing games? What is y'alls take? What should I do?

  • My computer s internet connection is slow, but my roommate's is fine. Whats happening?

My internet connection is fine until my roommate gets home. When she starts using her computer, my internet gets super slow or it drops the connection every 5 minutes. It never seems to affect her computer, though.

Sometimes it drops the connection even if she isn't connected to the internet, but it happens much more frequently when she is.

Is it the internet itself? My computer? Do we just have crappy internet?

  • Is a year and a half too soon to book a wedding reception venue?

    Hello!

I don't think it is, but my father thinks it is. He want's my fiance and me to cover half of the $1000 deposit, even though neither of us have jobs and we are both students living off of loan money. My parents are well-off. He says this is because "anything can happen in that time" and "in case something happens and y'all break up" and that its "a bad investment". Things like that....he's basically saying that its not worth it to reserve a spot because he's not confident it'll work out.

My fiance and I have no problems and we're perfectly happy. My dad doesn't like my fiance much because, in order to pay for his own school and get out with minimal loans, he is living at home during college. He is graduating in May and will find his own place and a full-time job. My dad says he's a great guy, but then he jokes that my fiance is "a mama's boy" and that he'll "live with mommy until he's 42". So much tension between everyone right now.

So...thoughts about the situation in general?

  • Everyone is in a different state. How will wedding planning work?

    So, I'm in IA.

My fiance, his mom, and two bridesmaids are in MN.

    One bridesmaid is in IL.

Two bridesmaids and my mom are in Texas.

Everyone is supposed to help plan the wedding, go dress shopping, etc...how am I supposed to do this? I don't want to look for dresses twice with my mom and then his mom, who both obviously want to help.

Also, how do I coordinate bridesmaids dresses with everyone living so far apart?

Any other advice on wedding planning is welcome, I have no idea what I'm doing! :)

  • Do the people I called the police on know who called?

So my upstairs neighbors fight and throw things at lot, mostly at around 1am. Worried about abuse, I called the police. I gave them my name and my apartment number and such.

Would the officers have told the couple that "the person downstairs' called them in? Or is it anonymous? I'm worried that the couple would know and do something.

  • How do I fix failed automatic updates for Windows 7?

My computer is wanting to update KB976932 every time I shut down and failing. I've looked into manually fixing it on the Windows website, but I don't know which file I need or anything like that. It's been doing this for months and it's driving me nuts. I never shut my computer down anymore (I simply set it to hibernate), but I'm not sure if that is detrimental to it in the long run.

How do I fix this easily?

  • Coefficients of friction and horizontal distance...?

During an awkward dismount, the gymnast slides 0.2 m during her landing. If the coefficient

of friction between the gymnast’s feet and the mat is 0.64, what was her horizontal velocity

when she initially landed? Gymnast weighs 54kg.

  • How do I ask my friend to give me the money he owes me?

I draw tattoo designs for people, mainly friends. I ALWAYS make the design-cash transaction in person, but I have a friend in Florida that really wanted me to do one. I told him I was hesitant because I didn't want to be stiffed, but he promised he wouldn't.

    That was in April.

Guess who still doesn't have the $40?

I've brought it up to him and sent him facebook messages, most of which he's just read but ignored. How to I say it politely but at the same time assertively that I want what he owes?

And yes, I've learned my lesson. I'm not doing this again.

  • Am I a resident of Texas or Iowa?

Okay, so I'm applying to graduate school and it's asking me where my permanent address and residency are.

I currently live in Iowa (on campus) and have an Iowa driver's license. But my family still claims me as dependent and they have a place in Texas. I'm not sure whether or not my "permanent residence" would be their place or mine.

  • What is the easiest fish to take care of besides a betta or goldfish?

I already have two bettas and I love them. But I'm wanting to get another type of fish. I've had goldfish and they're really messy, I'm maybe thinking a little pretty fish (guppies maybe?)

I'm thinking about a 5gal tank. I don't want anything too picky about pH, temp, and things like that, something I don't have to worry about too much.

  • How old should you be to get engaged?

My boyfriend and I are 20 and we've been talking about getting engaged lately. I don't think we will for a while, but I'm just wondering when a "normal" time to get engaged is. We've been dating for three years.

  • Can fiddler crabs and platies live in the same tank?

I went to the store and saw the two in the same tank so I bought one platy and one fiddler crab. But, upon reading into the two species, I noticed that the crab likes brackish water, not freshwater like it came in the store.

Can the two live together? Should I add aquarium salt? I'm not sure what to do to make them both happy.

  • Will My Boyfriend Be Too Big For Me?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for three years and we're waiting until marriage to have sex. We have done other sexual things, but not actually intercourse. He's fingered me and says that he can feel the back of my vagina and worries that he wouldn't be able to fit entirely in there... is this true?

Is there a way to tell how much can go in there? Based on body size maybe...I'm 5'3"... He says it feels like a lump that he could push past if he tried. Is that the cervix or what?

  • My family is moving but I don't want to leave my boyfriend...?

I'm almost 20 and both my boyfriend and I are in college. We've been dating for almost three years and we're pretty serious. My family is planning on moving from Minnesota to Texas and I don't really want to go with them. I don't like living at home (my fam is kind of dysfunctional) and my boyfriend and I have to deal with long distance already.

But I know my family, especially my dad, wouldn't like the idea of me staying in MN and getting an apartment. And I feel like I would be selling my family out for my boyfriend, or ditching my family, or something. I'd feel guilty.

    I just need some advice...
