my father is very nice sometimes, a lot of the time. but sometimes whenever I say something he treats me like a school mate, mocking me and totally disregarding whatever I say. He doesn't give me much attention (real attention, not just nodding his head in acknowledgement) and if he does it's negative. we don't get too spend much time together. if I tell him about my interests in life he wants to hear about the school work I'm doing. Sometimes I just feel like he doesn't really care about my feelings. I know he wants me to succeed but I just don't know what to do anymore. I even try to apologize when I get angry (I get angry rightfully when he's mocking me and such) but he always turns the blame on me. I wish he would acknowledge that giving him respect isn't hard when he doesn't treat me the best

I was wondering your thoughts while I was writing this passage;

"Hey, Ella. I just wanted to let you know... I'm meeting with my counselor early today. Will you be okay alone here? Only two hours, promise. It would be a shorter time but Mom's still working since our session isn't at the usual time. Ms. Annie has some kind of appointment, so we worked out now. You know what happens if I don't see her. I also have to take the bus, or I could always take my bike-" Calista rambled, knitting her hands together and unlocking them out of anxiety.

Calista's mental health condition seemed to set an ominously desolate and melancholy tone to every conversation- so Ella and Jill both avoided the subject unless bringing it up was a crucial part of Calista's wellbeing. Ella knew her sister wasn't happy sometimes. She could sense the rise in her mood or the descent that bipolar disorder introduced just three years ago. Besides bipolar disorder, Calista had severe anxiety and mild depression underneath her poised exterior.

I was also thinking myself wording this more subtly. I'd appreciate any and all personal opinions, whether you have any of these disorders, or you write middle grade books. Thanks!
