I am doing a bit of research and I would like to set up a linux based network gateway out of an older computer.

We are in the boonies so DSL is the only option and the good service costs far to much to add a high speed connection at this location.

The modem is located about half a football field away so hardwired is impossible it still gives a good 5mbps Down and 42KBs up @ -66 RSSI

The machine has 2GB 333mhz ram a sempron 3000+ processor

Alfa AWUS036H (realtek 8187) wireless adapter with a 7DBI antenna and parabolic reflector to gain internet connectivity.

a netgear 4 port + wifi router connected via Ethernet cable to share the connection

I tried it with XP and windows 7 however the shared speed is at a whopping 60KBps through wireless and has horrible drops with Ethernet which is quite annoying.

I was considering untangle however I am not sure if I can utilize this in this method.

OK so they want invoices, social security number, A utility bill, supplier contact information, Proof of inventory, etc etc.

Never having 1 complaint against me they decided that my invoices where "not good enough" so they closed my account and want to hold my funds for 180 days before I can get it.

I have hot wired a reset switch to the bios reset jumper to make it easier to boot.

I do not have an ohm meter to conduct through tests on it I was wondering if someone was familiar with this to save me a trip as I do computer service for rock bottom prices.

I suspect that the bios chip may have a corrupted bit, I have never ran into this problem before

The symptoms are 1 sec interval amber flashes on the power button and with a bios reset and removing all usb devices it gives a rapid amber flashing followed by the system starting and powering off for around 1 sec (no screen flash) than powering on fine.

I have flashed the bios to the latest firmware revision successfully and it did not change anything.

I know flashing amber means hardware failure.

I am good with computers and | know what I am doing, however I'm not a pro at hardware.

I have tried removing everything but the video card and booting but no luck, bios reset is the only way
