  • Does anyone have crime scene knowledge? Please pardon the long description below.?

I'm writing a book with a murder scene. There's a twist that the person killed (the body has been disposed of) is not the person assumed dead. The only witness to the murder never actually saw her (I'll call her Jane) being shot, but was certain that it had to be her as they were in a secluded area. Plus, the killer (I'll call him John) was more than happy to claim that Jane was the victim.

With the body gone, police only have the surviving victim's account of events and the blood stains located on the porch. Jane has a prison record, therefore, I know it's possible for the CSI team to compare the blood stains to her. Of course, once they do, they'll discover it isn't a match, which gives them hope that she could be alive.

Since that is discovered, police have a strong idea of whom the blood could belong to--John's missing accomplice, who police already had an APB on. However, John's accomplice has a squeaky clean record, therefore, there isn't anything on file to compare the blood stains.

My question, could they go to the accomplice's home and use a toothbrush, hairs from a comb etc. to compare to the blood found on the porch? OR could further comparisons between the blood and Jane's DNA prove helpful, as coincidentally, she and the missing accomplice are half-siblings?

BTW, they can't press John for information as the witness ended up killing him in self defense.

Hope I explained this well enough and thank you in advance for any help :-)

  • I had an interview with Food 4 Less last Thursday. He didn't ask me any of the regular interview questions, yet it seemed to go well...?

He explained the job to me, how training would go, union dues, my starting pay etc. Said that he would call me on Sunday to come in for a drug test and background check. It's now 3:36pm and I haven't heard from him. Should I call or wait? Thank you in advance for any help.

  • What would be your first sentence for a piece of fiction?

I've read that the very first sentence of a story could either make or break you. Some may be compelled to read further while others drop your story like it's on fire. So can you come up with a compelling opening sentence? Here's my try at it:

I wished that I hadn't opened the rusty door knob leading into that room, but much like a cat curiosity got the best of me.

  • What if you experienced this?

Saw a commercial that prompted me to want to ask: Let's say that you're in line at a grocery store. The person behind you inquires if they may cut in front of you (they only have a couple items to your cart) and you give them permission. Once their two items are scanned, music begins to play, balloons hail from above and an employee presents them with an oversized check for $10,000 for being the 100th customer that day. They're excited and instantly accept the check. Would you say anything?
