  • Best Melbourne attractions?

I'll be spending a month in Melbourne this christmas ( december to early Jan) and want to plan some places to visit when I go. I stayed for the same amount of time 2 years ago so i've already visited most of the main attractions:

Phillip Island - Penguin parade (Is it worth visiting other parts of the Island?)

    Luna Park

    St Kilda

    Dandenongs

    Brighton beach

Any other suggestions or hidden gems?? Also, any tips on any good burger places in the city?

    thanks :)

I went to a conference last week on rap music and black identities and heard a word which i think was

'equisiano' but i can't find it anywhere, is the correct? He said that it was a term to decribe people who don't feel part of their country of residence but feel closer to their country of birth

  • should it be 'a été né' or 'était né'?

I want to say that cinema was born during the 1930's and so far i have put:

C'était pendant les années de 30 que le cinema a été né

BUT i think it might be, était né as it is over a period of time and therefore should use the imperfect??

also after looking at it agin, would it sound better to say 'le cinema était/a été né pendant les années 30 ??

    merci :)

  • French prepostions and objects...?

I have an example like this

La liberté consiste à pouvoir faire tout ce qui ne nuit pas à autrui

    where i have to signify:

    a) a) le pronom relatif,

    b) l'antécédent et

    c) si le pronom est un pronom sujet ou objet direct

I did do it and i got it correct but i don't understand it, especially whether the ce qui/ce que is le pronom sujet or objet direct. At the top it did say that 'ce qui' is pronom sujet - but why???

    thanks

  • Best UK phone network for someone who uses calls a lot?

I've just moved to uni and realised that i've started using my phone a lot more for calling family (don't tend to text much). As my current phone is breaking I'm looking to get a cheap replacement (no more than £30) and wondering which network is the best? I think I've narrowed it down to Tesco mobile and Orange: Tesco as they double the top up that you put on, Orange as on canary plan you get 100mins free evening calls per £10 a month and can use magic numbers which give you a 1 hour call for 1 min (also added bonuses of itunes film rental and orange wednesdays.

Which do you think would be most beneficial to somone who uses a lot of minutes (I would not go on a contract)

    thanks

  • Anyone who does a French and Spanish degree course?

So I'm starting on a dual French and Spanish degree course at Leeds University this September and really don't know what to expect.

I love languages and so far I have always got A's and A*'s but I was a little freaked out when I saw all the reading lists and heard that particularly the Spanish course is fully communicated in Spanish

I'm willing to put the work in and I naturally do work at home in both languages on a daily basis but it just seems very scary :/

Any advice/tips or just reassurance would be appreciated!

  • Can anyone reccomend some easy French novels?

I've just finished my A levek course and starting a French and Spanish degree this september and am looking for some relatively easy french literature to read in the holidays to get me used to French novels

We did read one last year that I found quite simple vocab wise to read, l'étranger (although the themes are quite complex I found)

I was given another one that I have just tried today, le blé en herbe, but i didn't really get into it and the vocabulary was quite difficult

Does anyone have any recommendations of easy to read French novels, I have considered another work by Albert Camus such as la peste - is that quite difficult?

    MERCI :)

P.S I am looking for actual french literature, not translations of english books or kids books
