How long does chest congestion last?

I've had chest congestion since around Wednesday and I've been taking expectorant(my cough syrup) since Friday. I've only coughed out the mucus about three times since I've been taking the expectorant. How much longer will the chest congestion last? It's not a severe cough or anything, once in a while I might have a big cough that comes from the chest. My mom says that I should just stop drinking my medicine and it will go away on its own, but I'm not too sure. I think the medicine is helping me cough out the mucus but it's taking awhile for it to come out, it's usually caught in my throat and then it moves back down. Should I still continue to take the expectorant? And will the chest congestion only leave after all the mucus is coughed out? How much longer will that take?

Is smooth away a natural product and does it actually work? If it doesn't work, does anyone know a natural hair removal product that I should use besides shaving or waxing?
