  • What is your take on the reaction of people like Kirsten Neel?

"I'm moving to Australia, because their president is a Christian and actually supports what he says."

It is a knee-jerk comment of course.

And no one who has said anything about moving to Australia in the last 8 hours because the election didn't go their way will follow through, even if they could.

But this Tweet was so spectacular, it blew my mind.

We've come a long way as a country since the 70's when Dame Edna could make a film showing us walking pet emus in the street and palm it off overseas as a Doco.

But it seems we have a long way to go yet as well.

  • Working Holiday Info?

My friend and I are looking to go on a Working holiday to the UK in 2014 and I am having trouble finding the appropriate government sites for information. (Any links would be greatly appreciated.)

She is 5th generation Australian and I am 8th, so we don't qualify for an Ancestry Visa.

We want to see Europe while we're still young and stupid. But as my second language is Japanese and hers is Indonesian, I don't think that's going to help us out much. So like many aussies and kiwis we plan to go to the UK and use it as an English speaking base.

I will be 26 and she will be 29 in 2014 so we need to do it before she gets to old to qualify. She can get a transfer with her work to their uk offices but I will need to find something myself. Are there any restrictions on the jobs allowed to be done under this visa? (I'd rather not be a barmaid.)

As a qualified horticulturalist I was hoping I could get a job at an agency mowing old lady's lawns. Would that be possible/allowed?

    Thank you in advance.

Oh, and er how's it usually go, oh yeah... racist, filthy convicts, poor mannered, isolated backwater, uncultured and something about yogurt. There, see trolls I've done it for you. Ain't I nice. ;)

  • What does "Downtown" mean?

I ask because there is an individual, presumably from the US, in the Australia section asking if a University in my city is "Downtown".

While we are aware of the phrase from exported American TV programs, we don't actually know what it means. As such no has been able to answer him properly. So I thought over here would be a good place to find out.

Can someone please explain to me what constitutes an area as "Downtown"?

    Thank you in advance.
