Thought I'd toss this one out there

My question it not about whether you believe in the paranormal, as everyone has their own opinion on that score. (though why not state which side you're on in your answer?)

From the masses of people that walked out of the Paranormal Activities film, to those who get freaked out by horror stories - why does something so unproveable and far removed from everyday life instill so much fear?

I live in South East Queensland, Australia. I was weeding the garden and after pulling out a thick stemmed 2m tall weed I noticed it was covered in some kind of bug.

They ranged in size from about 1mm to 5mm, were feeding from the plant, and had two antenna like things sticking up at 90° from the body, which appeared to be near the bugs' back end. When I touched them, the big ones jumped a good metre.

Unlike all results I have found on google, they did not have long bodies like a springtail or bristletail, rather squat, round bodies, like half spheres that tapered towards their front end.

Anyone know they could be?
