  • can't get # symbol in database using php?

    I am trying to get the "#" symbol into a database using php.

    I have used htmlentities and htmlspecialchars and have looked at all the rules but when you try and add a "#" (number symbol) into a database using mysql_query it doesn't put an entire string into the database, just up to the # symbol. Everything else seems be converted into a safe-for-the-database string.

    Here is an example of some of the snippets I have used:

    mysql_real_escape_string(htmlspecialchars($_REQUEST['data'], ENT_QUOTES ,'ISO-8859-1'));

    I want something to be successfully uploaded without any sql injection, but also wan't to be able to display the content back to the user.

    How could I achieve this? It seems like I am close to achieving it but the # symbol just throws me off.

  • php which function executes first when having multiple functions on one line?

    In PHP which function will execute first when having multiple functions on one line?

    Here is an example:

    $string = "Hi # <!-- Their? <? echo 'How are you'; '-- How are you";

    echo mysql_real_escape_string(htmlspecialchars($string, ENT_QUOTES));

    Which function will execute first. From my tests it looks like htmlspecialchars executes first and then mysql_real_escape_string.

    In other words. Is it always the functions closest to the variable (the center of the the "rainbow") or is it executed in order (mysql_real_escape_string then to htmlspecialchar)?

    Thanks in advance

  • A PC Microphone for these needs?

    I need a good, yet low cost (under $60, cheaper the better), microphone for the PC.

    I am going to make programming videos, and thus need a microphone that:

    A. Eliminates keyboard typing (and in programming their is a lot of it) and mouse clicking; and

    B. Eliminate background noise/static; and

    C. Record clear voice.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Can a minor (15) own an LLC or S Corp?

    Can a minor have full control of an LLC or S Corp?

    Also, in this hypothetical scenario, I will be the Founder and CEO.

    Can the CEO, me, sign legally binding contracts?

    I am 15 although is it, in some sense, the company that is signing the contract. I just sign on the company behalf, just as some employees have the behalf to sign contracts for a company too?

    Any other information would be great

  • WHAT are ALL THE Components to Creating a Dedicated Server?

    I would, sometime in the future, like to create my own dedicated server.

    I don't know much about servers, although someone on the internet must.

    What are ALL THE COMPONENTS to creating your own working dedicated server.

    I know you need power, load balancers, hard drives, memory, server cases (not sure exactly what they are).

    Anyhow, could you list all the parts to creating a dedicated web server that will host files that will be on a website distributed to people around the world?

    If you could explain each of the main parts too then that would be awesome.

  • can you buy half of 1 share (fractional shares)?

    Can you buy half a share.

    I would like to start getting into stocks (absolute basics), although I don't have millions, or even thousands, to invest in stocks.(I don't plan on turning a couple of dollars into thousands)

    Some stocks I have been looking at go into the hundreds for a single share.

    Is it possible to buy half a stock, or a fraction of a share?

  • CPU Processor Temperature - AMD FX 4300?

    So I recently built my first gaming omputer, which I am proud about, and I noticed the CPU might be getting a little hot.

    I have an AMD FX 4300 Processor. When I go into the UEFI Bios it says that my CPU is about 64*C (which all I am in is the bios so I would assume I am idle) and my mainboard system is 40*C.

    My first question - what temp range should my processor's temp be at?

    Also my mainboard is 40*C, is that hot too??

    I am buying some thermal grease and some more fans to put into my case tomorrow, hopefully it will cool down the components inside the chassis a little bit.

  • CPU Processor question - did I get scammed on eBay?

    Long story short - went on eBay; randomly looked up CPU Proccessor i7; saw something titled "intel core i7 processor 1366"; Looked at description; no description although user had 100% positive feedback from 200 items sold; default description said it was an intel core i7 first-gen; thought that if description was false I would have "ebay buyer protection" on my side; so I bid; and now I think I got something that wasn't described as it is

    You can view the ad here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/intel-core-i7-processor-13... (make sure you view the original listing)

    From what it looks like the item is a Xeon 3530 although their is no such thing as a Xeon 3530. Their is, however, a such thing as a Xeon W3530. I did some research, after the bid because I didn't have enough time to do research before, and have noticed that this is definitely not an i7 processor.

    I am not any computer knowledge fanatic with Xeon processors, especially a W3530.

    Could you tell me if I got scammed at all?

    Is this a server processor or could this run on a regular desktop computer?

    Would you say that this item is not as described in the description?

    And should I apply for eBay's Buyer Protection?

    Any other information would be great.

  • Can CPU and GPU be from opposite companies?

    For a desktop build -

    Can CPU and GPU be from opposite companies?

    For example:

    The CPU is from AMD and the GPU is from Intel, or vis-a-versa.

    Will all the components combine to form a working desktop.

    Another example:

    The CPU, and GPU are from Intel although the motherboard is from AMD.

    Can they all connect? (assuming CPU has proper socket type and GPU has PCI-e x16 port)

    5 AnswersDesktops8 years ago
  • When building desktop is it the socket that matters?

    When building a computer when you have to connect the CPU and GPU to the motherboard is it the socket type that determines if a desktop will assemble?

    For example (first situation):

    I have a GPU, CPU, and a motherboard that all use LGA 1155 for their socket type.

    Will they all connect to each other and the desktop will turn on? (assuming that you have the psu connected and all that other stuff)

    For example (second situation):

    I have a GPU from AMD, a CPU from Intel, and a motherboard from Intel. They all have the same LGA 1155 socket type. Will they all connect to each other and the desktop will turn on? (assuming that you have the psu connected and all that other stuff)

    From what I have read all you need is the same socket type to connect the components of the desktop. Is that, the socket type, what determines whether a component will connect to another component.

    Also, can the components be from different companies? (cpu and gpu are from opposite companies like intel and amd)

    Thanks in advance

  • Does the video card have an instruction set like the processor?

    Pretty self-explanatory.

    Does the video card have an instruction set like the processor will have.

    For example:

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 is the video card

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is the processor

    The processor has a 64-bit instruction set. Does a video card have an instruction set.

    If the video card does have an instruction set then can a 32-bit instruction set interact with a 64-bit instruction set.

    Is it the processor that determines the instruction-set of a computer?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Website security question - loop md5 password encryption?

    I have a login form that when before sending the data from the form to a php script to be processed it prepares the data to be sent.

    Part of the code for when submitting the form encrypts the password into md5 42 times. For example (The code is javascript):

    for (var i=0; i < 42; i++){//Encrypts password 42 times

    password = MD5(password);

    }

    Does this make my login form much more secure since it encrypts the password 42 times before the data gets sent - meaning that if the data is intercepted they will have to decrypt an md5 code 42 times - which would be a painstaking amount of time required.

    Or does this mean it makes my website more vulnerable to a client because

    (a) There is a tool that can decrypt an md5 hash into its original md5 hash (but no further); or

    (b) A software could be used to change the amount of times the loop for password encryption will occur making it impossible for the user to login.

    Basically - is the code safe from any type of hacker attack, or should I just encrypt the password once, or not at all?

  • Science radioactivity and half-life question?

    My science book has a section titled "The Shorter the Half-Life, the Greater the Radioactivity"

    I am trying to understand what this title is trying to elucidate.

    The shorter the half-life, the greater the radioactivity.

    I am guessing this is one of those counter-intuitive statements in science.

    Here is what I comprehend:

    If you have a sample of Polonium^192 (half-life of approximately 1 microsecond) and a sample of Uranium^238 (half-life of approx. 4.468 billion years) then, by the notion of the title statement, polonium^192 is more radioactive.

    Why? Because it has a shorter half-life, a much shorter half life. Which would mean that it would be much more radioactive, by the notion of the section title, in relation to Uranium^238.

    Although that is not true - Uranium^238 is more radioactive than polonium*192. Is it?

    Do explain the actual meaning of "The Shorter the Half-Life, the Greater the Radioactivity"
