What kind of motor oil do you use?
This may start a huge war but wondering what everyone else prefers and why?
I personally always used either castrol or valvoline regular conventional or synthetic blend if its on sale and either bosch, napa or carquest filters(made by wix). Im using napa synthetic during the cold months due to better cold performance and price.
No problems so far with regular oil changes and proper viscosities except once when I used pennzoil. car was a quart low when it came time to change, went back to the other brands and didnt run low, never had a problem again wont use pennzoil again.
I know royal purple, lucas, amsoil, and redline are good but for me regular cars not worth it, once I build by supercharged camaro then maybe.
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoWalmart Everstart car batteries?
So the battery in my car was dead this morning, nothing was left on but it was about 20 degrees last night or colder farenheit, Noticed that that battery is 20 months old and is a walmart brand everstart battery, is this normal for everstart batteries to last this short amount of time especially in the cold?
Getting a new battery at BatteriesPlus later today. Cant afford an optima
Maintenance & Repairs8 years agoCar battery, block, or oil pan heater?
Starting to get cold, temps can drop below freezing even below zero at times. Im using synthetic oil in my car, but my battery recently died when it dropped below freezing, coolant is a 60-40 ratio of coolant to water for the colder temps. Which would be more beneficial and cheaper/easier to install. Also can each be plugged in overnight?
Car is a 91 subaru legacy 2.2 non turbo auto tranny less than 100000 miles.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years ago.260 or .280 Remington?
So Im probably gonna trade in my Remington 700 in .30-06 soon for a handgun, Im looking in to a new hunting rifle mainly for deer, mule and whitetail and other medium game, Looking for something smaller than a .30-06, I know the .270 is common but I dont want something to common, so looking at the .260 and .280 I cant really see a difference between the two? Can anyone elaborate on the difference? Difference or similiraties?
Recoil not a problem and probably wont shoot beyond 300 yards. I do like the .30-06 and eventually I may get another for larger game, not anytime soon. And a im not fan of the .243.

5 AnswersCurrent Events8 years ago97 dodge neon ticking?
I have a ticking kind of sound coming from the valve cover(pretty sure its coming from valve cover) and I hear it could be a dirty hydraulic lifter from using to much oil(dipscik at full) and using 10w30(hear it should be at min and 5w30) and I also heard its normal due to the way the valves are seated. Can anyone else share some insight?
97 neon, 155000 miles, timing is correct, SOHC, auto, spark plugs and wires new, so is timing belt and water pump, oil is about 2 months old using 10w30.
2 AnswersDodge8 years agoTicking from 97 Dodge Neon?
I got a 97 neon with 155000 miles with a 2.0 SOHC. I hear a ticking sound coming from under the valve cover, my initial research says it could be dirty hydraulic lifters common when theres "to much" oil in there, the dipstick reads full and it has 10w30, I hear its better to have it at the minimum mark and using 5w30. I also hear it could be valve slap which is normal and common or this engine due to the way the valves are seated in the head or ports or something. Anyone else have this problem if so what did you end up doing?
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs8 years agowhat causes oil to "evaporate?"?
I had my car sitting for about 3 months due to a bad ground. I fixed it and started up just fine but noticed a tapping sound from under the hood. Checked the oil and the dipstick was dry, the car isnt leaking oil and had enough in there before it sat. What could cause this?
Im adding oil and changing it today just curious as what could cause this? Also could the tapping sound be due to the low oil or something with the valvetrain?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years ago1997 BMW 328i wont stay running?
I got a 97 bmw 328i with the I6 engine that sat for almost a year with battery connected. Battery died so replaced but alternator was good. It will start but die off right away, it can stay running as long as accelerator is pressed. Im guessing its a bad throttle position sensor or MAF sensor, does anyone else have any ideas? All fuses are good. how can the MAF or TPS be tested?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoMixing different brand motor oil?
Cars due for an oil achange again and i always get those $20 oil change specials at whatever auto parts store has better deal, it comes with 5 quarts of oil and car uses 4 so I have few single quarts of several brands in my garage. Car uses 10w30 for temperature right now and next few months and car can use conventional or synthetic. i have quarts of valvoline conventional, max life, and syn blend, castrol conventional, and napa synthetic all in the same weight. would it be ok to mix these?
Car has had regular oil changes all its life and no problems at 115000 miles
Usually use carquest or napa filters.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoSaturn SL2 wheel bearing?
My wifes car needs a wheel bearing, its a 2001 saturn SL2 and was wondering if the wheel bearing is part of the hub so i could just replace the whole hub instead of the bearing itself(easier). I have access to a shop and tools and I have decent amount of mechanical skill I just wanna know if i could replace the entire hub or if the wheel bearing is seperate from the hub(in my subaru it is)? Ill probably replace both since that car has been perfectly maintained and runs great.
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoJeep 4.2 reliability?
Im helping my friend look for a Jeep. I know toyotas really well and I know the old FJ40 had a great I6 engine but I heard bad things about the Jeep 4.0 engine, wondering if the 4.2 I6 engine was ever a good engine? Were their any common problems with this engine? Is it made by AMC?
Vehicle is an 89 YJ with 95000 miles, looks in good condition.

6 AnswersDodge8 years agoEat first thing in morning or workout?
Normally shortly after i wake up id drink a preworkout drink then work out, protein shake right after, then breakfast about 30 min after. I mostly stick to 6 small meals a day healthy stuff. Wondering if eating something 30 min to an hour prior to working out would be better?
I rotate between cardio and muscle building stuff day to day and got a good work out plan already set up.
6 AnswersDiet & Fitness8 years agoWhere do i start diagnosing?
I got a 88 Toyota pickup w/ a 3.0 V6. One day I was driving on the highway and it completely shut off on me. Didn't stutter or overheat just quit, RPM dropped and I put it in neutral and pulled over. Tried starting it but I'm getting no power anywhere, not even the headlights. Jumping it does nothing. Battery alternator n starter are less than 8 months old. What is wrong and where should i start fixing?
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoCan Verizon Droid Razr be used on NET10 network?
Im tired if paying to much for verizon and wanna cancel my plan, me and my wife have droid razrs which we love. I know you can take your old ATT phone over but not a verizon phone due to something with the SIM card, I have looked at resetting the SIM card reader thing on my phone and finding out how to unlock it so it can be used. Wondering if anyone has done this and how?
Both phones are with verizon, going to NET10 monthly share plan.
7 AnswersCell Phones & Plans8 years agoValvoline or NAPA oil?
Oil change due on my wives 01 saturn. Carquest has a sale on valvoline conventional oil and a carquest red filter for $20, NAPA has a sale on NAPA synthetic oil and a napa silver filter for $20. I hear both filters made by WIX and napa oil is made by valvoline. Wondering if napa oil is as good as valvoline or if i should just stick to valvoline non-synthetic.
Car has had regular oil changes, runs great with no problems, about 110000 miles, can use either regular or synthetic oil, not expecting low temps any time soon, change oil every 3000 miles.
Even with synthetic oil it will be changed after 3000 miles, yes I know differences b/w synthetic and non, just wanna see what people think about NAPA oil as ive always used castrol or valvoline never store brand fluids for the most parts
