I am 23 and want to be a very successful professional. I have a BSME from Univ of Florida, and I want to get a master's degree. However, I don't know whether to get an MBA or a MS in Mech Eng.

So, what master's should I get? why?

Should I go for the MBA?

Should I go for the technical degree?

Should I first get the technical and get an MBA in 4-5 years?

If I want to sell some shares I bought using my Roth IRA where I gained about 10% of the total contribution, can I sell those shares and buy from another company and not pay taxes? or, Do I have to pay taxes?

I accepted and offer as a MechE in a big company. My gross monthly salary $5000.... after all deductions, contributions to 401(k) and so forth! I get about $3000 a month. how much should I spend on a rent?

I took the GRE once before. I didn't study and got a 1020 (320 Verbal, 700 Math). I want to take the GRE again before october and hopefully get around 1100 . Preferably 1200

My major concern, as you can see, is on the Verbal part of the test. I just think it's so tough....

Do you think that if I take some prep classes @ Kaplan I am going to improve my scores on the GRE?

I have heard that in some oil companies you work like 6 out of 12 months and get paid $12,000 a month even when you don't work [12*$12,000=$144,000]... I don't know if I should believe it....

PROFILE:

I am going to graduate as a Mech Eng. from a "most selective" school according to U.S News. My overall GPA would be around 3.4-3.5 by the time I graduate. However, I want to get more experience on things that can build me as a good candidate for a top MBA program. (Harvard, Wharton, Sloan, etc.) By good candidate I mean: leader, good manager, etc...

PLAN:

I am planning on doing a M.S Engineering Management from a "regular" school while working for an energy company for 4-5 years before applying to these programs.

QUESTIONS:

Is this a good plan?

Is the M.S Engineering Management a good idea? Would it give me some basics to perform at my best during the MBA?

Should I just work for 4-5 years for the best company I can & forget about a M.S?

Can it hurt my application in the future if I do the MS in a "regular" school instead of a "above-average" school?

What other things can I do, other than just work and study, that can help me improve my leadership skills?

okay, so I took the GRE for the first time, without any preparation at all, and I got a really bad score. 320 Verbal 700 Quad. My first language is not English... As a matter of fact, english is my third language, and I guess that's the problem.

I want to get into a master's degree either at UF or UCF. I don't want to do PhD, only the master's degree. Right now, I don't know if these schools are going to accept me with a 1020.

In addition, I am in my senior year of mechanical engineering and my GPA is really close to 3.5. I have done a couple of internships, one of those at a really good company. I was a T.A during high shool back in my native country; I also have other "good" things in my resume.... but then again, my GRE is too low right?

I know I can easily get a higher score in the quad section, but the verbal section is so difficult. How can I improve in that section? I want to get at least 550-600 on that section so that I can show a good score.

I feel pretty comfortable when it comes down to take tests. I have not study too much for the GRE, but I want to start my master on Spring 2008, and my application should be compleated by November 1st.

I was thinking of taking the test on July, and if don't get a good score on my 1st trial, I can just retake the test before November 1st.

What do you think?

I found that you need to have a good GPA on your undergraduate degree, but how much do you need on the GRE?. Are there any other tests?
