  • What handguns does Jack Ryan choose in Tom Clancy's book Patriot Games?

I remember he receives pistol training in the book, and he and his instructor discuss various weapons for him and Cathy to use. I don't have a copy of the book and can't find the information online. What gun did he decide on? I think I remember some kind of Smith & Wesson automatic, but I'm not sure.

  • In the UEFA Champions League round of 16, how can I get more complete information?

I know the draw was yesterday, and I know all the initial fixtures. But I'm having a very difficult time finding out how the tournament will progress after the first set of matchups. For example, who will Arsenal play if they advance? Or who will Barcelona play if they advance? Which teams will be away on the first leg in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final?

  • Why are my brakes squeaking although no one has identified a problem?

I've noticed a squeaking in my brakes (more like a metal-on-metal sound) for at least a year. Sometimes it's worse than other times: I'll brake once and hear nothing, then hear the sound ten minutes later. I had someone look at them a year ago and they said nothing was wrong. A week ago, I bought four new tires and had them check the brakes, and they said nothing was wrong. Are they missing something that's going to end up costing me big in the long run? Or is it no big deal?

I drive a 2003 Kia Spectra. I can't remember when I last had the brakes serviced or pads and rotors changed or machined.

    Thanks.

  • How do I get email alerts to help me pick the best answer to my question?

I don't come onto yahoo answers or even yahoo very often, but I do like to use Answers from time to time. Recently, I asked a question. I received two email alerts: one when I received an answer and another after voters had chosen the best answer for me. What I really need, however, is to be able to receive an email when it's still possible for me to pick the best question. Is there a way to get such an email?

  • If I want to prolong my new laptop's battery life, is it bad to use it while charging?

I just bought a MacBook Pro, and I have only charged/discharged my battery a handful of times. I've been doing some research online, and I feel like I've got a pretty good feel for how to keep my battery in good shape for as many years as possible. I'm have trouble, however, finding the answer to one of my questions. When I use my laptop at home, should I leave it plugged in while I am using it? Or is it better to allow the battery to lose life and THEN plug it in? Does it matter?

    Thanks

  • Did I REALLY have to install all those security updates?!?!?

I just reformatted my wonderful 7-year-old Dell laptop. Of course, before I reinstalled Windows XP, I downloaded the standalone installation file for Windows XP Service Pack 3. However, after I reinstalled it, I went to the Microsoft Windows update page, and it told me I needed to install 82 security/malicious software/etc updates. Like a sucker, I did it. After having already installed SP3, did I really need to install all of these, or am I just bogging down my system?

Thanks for any help in my continual quest to understand Microsoft and Windows.

  • Other method of calculating the age of the solar system...?

The planets currently orbit the earth in what is almost a plane. I assume that as time progresses, the mass of planets in this plane decreases the variation from the "invariable plane of the solar system." Would it be possible to use the current variation from the invariable plane to guess how long it's been since the planets started orbiting the sun?

  • Physiological effects of an all-nighter...?

I notice several things whenever I pull an all-nighter, or even when I get just a couple hours of sleep. First, I get pretty cold, even if I'm wearing extra clothes to stay warm. Second, my stomach gets pretty uncomfortable, like I'm hungry, but even if I eat, I still have a strange type of stomach ache.

How does lack of sleep affect these things? Is this a "my body just acts this way" kind of thing, or is it something that is common?

  • What happened to the YF-23?

What ever happened to Lockheed's competitor to the F-22? This question is obviously a couple of years old, but I never really found out WHY it lost out or what's going on with it now. I always thought it looked way cooler than the F-22, but I know it was quite functional as well. Was the defense department just making up for too many government contracts with Lockheed, or was the F-22 completely superior to the F-23?

    Thanks.
