  • What is the ideal range on French horn?

I'm a 14 year old player, about 2 1/2 years experience, what should I strive for? What should be my ultimate goal in range? And no, I don't mean the 3.5 octave range Wikipedia mentions, what is truly the optimal range?

  • Advice for Blue Lake?

I'm going to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp this summer with my major being French horn - orchestra, and minor being conducting. Does anyone have any advice or tips, or otherwise helpful info about what the camp is like and how to exceed there? I have problems warming up early in the morning and I'm scared I'll sound bad at the camp

  • Third movement of Sierra s Return (my first symphony)?

Hey guys! Sorry I haven t been on in a while. I ve been hard at work though, on my symphony. I just finished the third and fourth movements (they go together), and I m starting to write the fifth. The symphony is about a girl driven to madness who comes back from the dead to kill her abusers, so I guess I d say it s pretty lighthearted haha. Anyway, this is my first symphony, or basically my first big piece. Please let me know what you think!

  • Should I try to play horn concerto no. 1 by Strauss for solo and ensemble?

I am currently in 8th grade and I really like the solo. I can play it but I make a lot of mistakes, which I think could be fixed by the time January rolls around (that s when our festival is). My band director told me to go for it, but should I choose something easier?

  • I just performed Czardas (Monti) on my French horn for my seventh grade audition to a symphony orchestra. What solos can help me improve?

I want to learn a challenging solo (harder than czardas). What are some good French horn solos I can learn to increase my abilities? (I'm still in seventh grade)

  • How do I make a piece of music sound slightly creepy, like abandoned carnival-esque?

I'm writing a piece called Sierra about my friend who is depressed and seriously messed up but is also very childish and playful (she loves Alice in Wonderland). I want it to sound slightly creepy. How do I do that?

  • What grade is Czardas by Monti on French horn?

I'm a second-year player but I want to learn Czardas. What grade is it?

  • Should I try to learn Czardas on French horn?

I love the piece and want very badly to play it. However, I'm only in my second year of playing French horn (7th grade) and it might be a little too ambitious. I'd like to believe I'm very good at my instrument but that's just me. I can play almost anything that someone puts in front of me and I have a 4 octave range (on my good days). Should I try to learn Czardas or wait and try an easier piece?

  • Can I become a professional classical composer at twelve?

I've been composing since I was about 3 and it's my passion. Everyone compliments me on my pieces, but then again, everyone is just my family. I'll link some pieces I wrote recently. Should I keep trying or do I even stand a chance against others?

  • I can't think of a melody for the second movement of my piece. What do you do when you have writer's block?

Hi! My name is Izzy and I'm twelve. I'm in a tough situation right now. I'm writing a piece that I really like, but I can't seem to find ideas for the second part. What do you normally do when you have a writer's block?

Here is the piece I want to add to but can't find a new melody that fits: https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/8683afb1dc1...

  • I fell in the shower but don't remember it. Is something wrong with me?

This morning, I fell in the shower and hit my nose very hard on the floor. I don't remember it at all, the only thing I remember is losing my vision and then realizing I was on the ground with a huge head/nose ache. Now, it's 12 hours later and there's bruising and some swelling. It still hurts like hell and I still don't even remember what happened. My mom said she heard a loud noise, like something hit the ground, so I presume that was me. Should I see a doctor?

  • How do I fix dry lips?

My lips aren't chapped, but they are very dry. Whenever I lick them or put water on them or something, they almost instantly become dry. I need to fix this because I play the French horn and when you play that with dry lips, it sounds terrible. Please help!

  • How do I deal with my girlfriend's parents?

I'm twelve and I love my girlfriend more than anything. I would give up anything and everything for her and she would do the same for me. I want to spend the rest of my life with her, but her parents drive me crazy!

First of all, they're super homophobic (I'm gay). She's terrified to come out to her mom because even though her mom is the most accepting, she's not accepting. She said that every middle school girl who's gay is a liar and it's just a phase.

Next, they don't let her do ANYTHING. I get to hang out with her roughly every month and a half and I CANNOT deal with that much longer. I can't deal with not getting to spend any time with her. Her parents are insanely strict and whenever she asks for something, they say no. Why? I have absolutely no idea. She's not allowed to do ANYTHING without an adult, which means no alone time. The girl hasn't even had a childhood! She's never learned to ride a bike or swim, she hasn't even eaten ******* seafood.

Her parents are super lazy and don't seem to give a **** about anything. Her mom didn't work in the first place and her dad lost his job six months ago. Did he look for a new job? No. So they're getting their last payment in a week and after that, they basically won't have money to eat. My girlfriend is super stressed out about it and it's stressing me out to see her upset. I told her I'd give her money whenever she needed it and I would do anything to help.

I can't deal with this anymore. What do I do?

  • How do I ask her to be my girlfriend?

There's a girl I really like who likes me back. Lately, we've been flirting a lot. We're already best friends, so we're very close. But here's the problem. She has a boyfriend. He treats her badly and she's about to dump him. She has told me that she doesn't even like him anymore.

I just want to be with her. Last night, I wrote a letter telling her all of the reasons I love her (we casually say "I love you"). At the end, I asked her if she would be with me (romantically). I want to give it to her, but I don't know if I should yet.

Should I wait until she dumps her boyfriend? She's hesitant to break up with him because she doesn't know how to "talk seriously". Giving her the letter might motivate her to dump him much quicker.

If I give her the letter, should I put the letter in her locker and let her read it alone, or give it to her in person and see her reaction? I know she likes me a LOT, but I'm terrified to see what would happen if our friendship was ruined because of me asking her out. I love her to pieces and all I want in the world is to be with her. Please help!

  • To Mamianka? (No one else would answer with any useful information) I finished a score and would love some feedback.?

Here's the link to the score:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUTeE3xOhJY

    Here's the storyline:

A man finds a beautiful and majestic island. He begins exploring it, hiking through the forests. Everything is pleasant and he's very curious. He starts to lose confidence about the island being great. He then sees another part of the island, and his wonder begins filling up. He finds several tigers, which start growling at him. His heart drops as they get up and begin walking towards him. The man starts running along the river as the tigers chase him and birds follow. Suddenly, he sees a waterfall! The tigers are about to get him, as he jumps down the long rush of water. He swims to the shore and begins exploring again. He has very little confidence and fear is beginning to swell inside him.

As he is exploring, all of the animals start gathering near him, ready to attack. The man takes out his machete and is ready to fight. Every animal one by one starts attacking him. He tries to fight them, but starts losing ground. He is backed into a corner and is eaten alive. All that is left is his heart, which keeps beating louder and louder as the animals rejoice and then it stops.

I just started a score about a man finding an island. Here's the story.
