  • kineton noseband..thoughts?

my horse is a pretty hard puller. ive owned him for 6 years and i have finally gotten him used to a nice snaffle bit, but if he doesnt feel like stopping or slowing down he wont and i hate to yank on his mouth so much.

i do know that a flash would help to keep his mouth closed and i have used one and yes it does help. but in my search for a new flash, i found the kineton noseband.

i thought this might be usefull..

so my question is, has anyone here used one? and if so, how did you like it?

    thanks!

  • horse holding water in his mouth and runny poops?!?

ok..so my horse is kinda oldish. ive had him for 6 yrs and never had this problem that i can recall. and its concerning.

its been real hot and humid lately. so i put my horses in the cooler pasture with grass. i have been noticing some not so ball type poops..you know kinda more like a patty eww. anyways, when i put my horses over in the other pasture..i noticed that when im bringing them back my horse will like open his mouth a little and water will come out. and it almost seems like he has a runny mouth..idk its really weird. and its weirding me out. idk why hes doin that.

if anyone has seen this before pls help! is there anything i can do or is this normal?

    thank!

  • hay before grain (20 characters)?

so earlier i saw an answer where someone said to always feed a horse(i think it was in reference to older horses) their hay/forage before the grain.

why is this? and is this for all horses?

  • another grass clipping question?

so i know that someone on here asked if they could feed horses grass clippings. everyone said NO. haha i dont disagree. BUT...i have to admit, i let my horses eat grass clippings and ive never had a problem with colic or choking. so, i have a couple questions:

    1. wouldnt your horse know if the grass clippings arent good? like, would they be able to smell the chemicals of gas and such? an instinct type of thing.

i have a picky horse and a very not so much picky horse. my picky horse eats hardly anything new, but my other one will eat anything. but they both eat grass clippings happily.

    2. i know there are different types of mowers. typical lawn mowers and then the tractor mowers. do they make a difference? my neighbor has a tractor mower and mows his field that has really long grass in it. ive snuck over and raked some of the grass and given it to my horses. haha :P but on those mowers, isnt the cutter/blade thing not under the mower but sorta behind or to the side? so no gas would get on it..right? whereas a normal lawn mower the blade is right under the mower..please correct me if im wrong! thanks :)

and 3. what about hay? its been mowed. and yes been dried, but what about the same gas problem?

  • Ok,now what do i do????

OK, so I have asked advise for this here i think it was like 2 months ago. I have a Standerded bred ex-racer mare.I have had her for 5 yrs and we have never had any problems with her. But at the beggining of the summer, She had a fluid pocket on her stiffle. I iced it, hosed it, and even had my vet drain it. I gave Myra (my horse) intibiotics and bute and bantamine. just this month, her fluid finaly started going down. so i started lunging her and hosing her fluid after. it dramaticly went don in size but its still not gone and it is going to be fall in 1 month!!Myra is off all medications. today I lunged her and put some Mineral Ice on her fluid. If anyone sits on her she limps. but the other day i put a 6yr old on her and she did really good. no limping. i have not cantered her at all on the lunge line but i have trotting about 5 times around me at once on each side. a little more sometimes. what else can i do for her? why hasnt the fluid left yet?? any thoughts will be helpful!!

  • Kimberwick?

I have used a Kimberwick on my horse and he did pretty good. I was working on bending and good contact. Is this a good bit to use or should i think of using a different bit?

I have already used a snaffle, a double-jointed D ring, and an eggbutt. My horse really liked the snaffle but he didnt always listen to me if he was full of himself. I have used the kimberwick with the slot-like things and right now im using a regular.

  • bit suggestions?

I own a 18 y/o saddlebred/ arab mix. I have had him for 4 years. Before i got him he was cowboyed. He now has a very hard mouth. And whenever i ride he fights to run and never relaxes. The past four years he has gotten better but not nearly where i wish him to be. His brakes are the worst part. I am looking for bit suggestions that would allow me to have better brakes but still allow me to have good contact. p.s. i ride english.

  • What should I do whith my horse who has had a fluid pocket for close to a month?

My horse all of a sudden was lame one evening. the next morning, she was standing in the middle of the pasture. she wouldnt even move for her grain. She had a huge fluid pocket on her stifle area.I called the vet and she gave me some antibiodics. later, we ended up draining the pocket. it filled back up, like i knew it would. it has now been maybe 4 weeks of no antibiotics and its been almost a month since my horse has had the fluid pocket and she still has it. what should i do?

  • i dont know what bit to use for my horse?

Before I bought my horse, he was cowboyed. If you dont know what that is,its when a horse is made to run barrels and nothing else. No fun trails or anything. So when I bought him, he was pretty much crazy. Over the 3 years that i have owned him, I have trained him alot. But now I have been working on some dressage with him and I have been lunging him over some caveleti. (hope i spelt that right) he has been doing really good in the ring but if I want to just take him on a pleasure ride he gets all hyper and he doesnt have any brakes at all. I have tried using different riding hand and leg signals and i have tried using a kimberwick strait mouth, a double jointed D-ring, a snaffle, and an eggbutt. the one that worked the best was the kimberwick. but it just didnt have what i wanted. not enough brakes.i thought about using a slow twisted snaffle for more brakes. should i?
