Hello. I'm DemiLily, but that's not my real name. I actually like helping young writers on Y!A, but sometimes I can be mean. :P Oh, I'm a top procrastinator when it comes to writing although I hope to be a best-seller author. I speak a lot of languages; Somali, Swedish and English <- Fluent. Then French, Italian and Japanese. Flaws: Klutz, failure at geography (can’t read a map and I don’t know how to use a compass) In my spare time, I like to draw cartoons and anime ( Oh, I’m a big fan of Naruto :D)

  • Great Depression?

How did the Great Depression effect Sweden's economy?

Suggestions, tips and advices are always helpful. I have mentioned so far, that the unemployment rose and that the loans decreased and elaborated a bit on the topic. I was wondering, if you had any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • Writers, how do you show a character trait in your story?

Like what methods or style do you use to show, for example, that your main character is lonely? Or mischevious? Or something else, really.

Because I'm having trouble on how to show my main character is lonely. Doesn't have friends. Disliked by his neighbours.

Suggestions, tips & advice are always welcome!

Happy writing and congratulation to those who participated and completed NaNoWriMo! :)

  • Homework help?

How is everyday life in the Frankenstein book? Politics, food, culture and clothing, too?

I've answered all my questions except this one, so please help me. I've read the book but it's a bit too fancy to understand.

  • Writing help?

I'm having problem writing the opening down. In the beginning, my main character displays a bit of his fire element as way to amuse himself. But I don't know how to set the setting. Not a clue.

    Advice or tips, please?

  • Any YA books?

I read the Harry Potter series and that was amazing, of course. Hunger Games was OK-ish. Divergent, The Maze Runner and The Fault in Our Stars bored me to death. I don't like the Gone or the Artemis Fowl series. A big fat no to Percy Jackson series.

I like a book that has a nice opening and great characters.

  • Stuck on this part?

Hello. I'm planning to write a YA fantasy novel at the moment. And I'm stuck on this part. Most YA fantasy novels have the main character discover his powers. But my main character already had his power (water element) from birth and he realized it when he was about eight. He's seventeen now. He uses his power for entertainment purpose. Doesn't bother to hide it from the villagers. The villagers thinks he's a freak and abnormal.

How do I show this without confusing the readers? This happens in the first chapter. Any tips or advice for my problem? I don't want any ideas, thanks.

    Happy writing!

  • How to create a believable antagonist?

I think I'd like to avoid an antagonist who desire power. And also, what kind of cliches should I avoid when creating a believable antagonist?

Thanks for your answers and have a fantastic day!

  • Can I use the word 'Mana' in my novel?

Gamers or writers, I'm sure you heard the word 'mana'.

I was wondering if I could use the word 'mana' as natural resource which is used or channeled by wizards to case magic spells. A writer named Larry Niven used this and many role-playing games have followed Niven in his use of mana.

Is it OK if I use this idea or would I get sued? Because I had this idea before I even knew about Larry Niven and I'm not so sure now.

Thank you for your answers and have a fantastic day.

  • Which of the Harry Potter book is the closest to being a stand-alone novel?

I think Prisoner of Azkaban is the closest of being to a stand-alone novel.

    What do you think?

  • How to create a believable world?

Not a completely new world from scratch, of course. Something similar to our world. I'd reckon creating a government, rules and laws would be helpful.

Any other suggestion? Thanks for all the answers and have a fantastic day.

I think creating a government, laws and rule would help. Perhaps a culture: different outfits: robes, cloaks etc...
