  • Chemistry: Enthalpy Change and Hess' Law?

Find the enthalpy change for the following reaction using a) the enthalpy change of formation values and b) the enthalpy change of combustion values. Then comment on your two answers.

    CH3(l) + H2(g) --> CH3CH2OH (l)

    The standard enthalpy changes are

formation CH3CHO: -192 kj per mol

formation H2: 0 kj per mol

formation CH3CH2OH: -277 kj per mol

combustion CH3CHO: -1167 kj per mol

combustion H2: -286 kj per mol

combustion CH3CH2OH: -1367 kj per mol

I drew the triangle energy cycle thingy, and my answers are

    a) -85 kj per mol

    b) -86 kj per mol

Can you please tell me if these answers are correct, and if they are, how do I comment on them? I dont really know what to say except that the numbers are almost the same lol.

    Thank you!

  • Aslan: The Chronicles of Narnia?

I'm writing an essay on the character of Aslan, and I don't understand one thing he says. After Peter kills the wolf that was attacking Susan, Aslan says:

"Rise up, Sir Peter Fenris-Bane. And, whatever happens, never forget to wipe your sword."

Can anyone please tell me why that is so important? Maybe in terms of historical context? I know nothing about sword fighting in general, so any information is useful.

But I don't want to plagiarize, so please don't tell me about what that shows us about Aslan's character :D

    Thank you!

  • Where to buy a bike online?

I'm going on holiday next month. And I need a bike. But I really don't know much about them. We're going to do some long distance trails, (not super heavy-duty). I'm wondering what kind of bike is best, and where I can get one online. It can be second hand and I'm a 17 year old girl. If that helps :)

Thank you so much for any information!

  • How can you experimentally find the specific heat capacity of a liquid?

For example, I know the specific heat capacity of water is about 4000 joules per kilo per Kelvin, but where did that value come from? Is there any way to find it experimentally in a class room or do you need highly sophisticated equipment?
