  • Newton's Clockwork Universe?

Do you believe in determinism? That our ever act or thought was set in stone? That humans have no autonomy? Do you have a beautiful argument Against determinism? What are your thoughts on this?

  • Who will critique my poem?

(I wrote this really quickly, so it's not going to be the best, buuut... What do you think of it? What do you think teh meaning is?)

What happened to all the people

    who every really cared

    to listen to others'

    silent despairs?

    And what will happen now...

    now that they've all gone?

We'll have to take their place

To help the world move on.

  • I've thought up a theory, does anyone agree with my view? Criticism?

My arguement that there's fate, that everything can be calculated, predetermined.

Here's my reasoning (And I've yet to find another who shares my reasoning...) Everything has a limit. A limited number of options, of possibilities. And the possibilities can be lowered if you do the math. Until there's only one. One possibility. Fate in my mind is like a chain reaction. If a bird flaps its wings, the air will move around it, pushing the air around that air and on and on and perhaps eventually contributing to a hurricane far far away from the bird (Quantum physics.). And once the birds has flapped its wings this must happen. And it can be calculated that the bird will flap its wings once you know that a dragonfly will pass at that precise moment and it can be calculated that the dragonfly will pass at that moment with enough other information. You can calculate anything with the right information. When a person makes a decision, they aren't really. The parts of the brain sort of fight and the part of the brain that overtakes the others makes the person decide(This is a fact, not an idea, about the brain.). That was hard to explain-but see, the brain fools you into making you think you've just been thinking and have made your own decision. And it can be calculated, the decision you make, by how well developed certain parts of your brain are which can be calculated by what nutrients you've taken which can be determined by how your brain was originally developed before you were born which can be calculated from your parents brain. Every time you make a decision, (That of course was already calculated) with the knowledge of that decision, one can calculate your next decision. Even the next decision you'll have to make can be calculated if you take in every factor. And if it can be calculated, it is really predetermined, isn't it? It can be correctly predicted. Even the most random things have patterns, predictable patterns. Well maybe this doesn't make sense to anyone. I'm not the best at explaining ideas.

  • Please critique this poem?

    'People have too many secrets

    for my taste.

They don't like to tell their secrets,

    what a waste.

    People tell too many lies,

    what a shame.

They don't like to hold their lies:

    life's a game.'

    Please critique.

(The poem's supposed to be choppy like that.)

  • Anyone feel like critiquing meh poem?

'After all is said and done

And the painful war is won,

After you let the people flee

    To your haven factory,

After all the dead have died

    And their families have cried,

What pains you to your very core,

The worst of all effects of war,

Is knowing you could have saved

    Just one more.'

It's supposed to be about the holocaust, specifically schindler, and the part that doesn't quite make sense is supposed to be a metaphor...yeah..okay-

  • Ignorant bliss or knowledge, no matter how unpleasant?

For example: would you rather have your mom tell you: A. that your dad works for army intelligence and he's not an any danger, he just doesn't have time to go home. (This is a lie to protect you, ignorant bliss.) Or B. that your dad just died in the war because of a very stupid mistake on his part and maybe he took out his friends with him or he was a traitor or something? (This is the painful truth.)

Just out of curiosity. I asked my friends this question and the answer startled me. I won't bias the results with their answers though.

  • How many people do you know that cut themselves?

How many people do you know that cut themselves for no reason at all? How many do you think are faking depression and how many do you think may actually have a problem?

    Just out of curiosity.

  • Can someone help me? I'm in an... interesting situation.?

In 2nd block, there's this guy I really like. Except he believes he is a vampire. And he guilted me into saying I believed, also. We eventually went out for like a week then he dumped me because 'the other vampires were going to be jealous of me and want to kil me'. Now, a few weeks later, he's sending me poems and telling me he'd ' ask me out again if he could only win back my heart'. Ugh why does he say these things? I don't think he really believes it himself, but he talks with a straight face about this vampire crap as if it were true.

Dear general public: what should I do?

  • Car troubles-can anyone help?

I was at a parking lot and I went back to the car, but all the windows were rolled about half way down exactly! I hadn't left it like that and I couldn't have possibly hit a button accidentally-there aren't any buttons that would roll all the windows down to exactly the same height (including the sunroof).

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Speculations about what happened would be helpful, thanks.
